I think if they started putting out QUALITY products instead of pushing products with cute packaging and garbage formulas they could turn it around. They don’t need 50 subbrands putting out the same awful formula. They have bh’s formula, use it!!!
If they did away with everything the fun looking packaging the colabs, having 20 Different names for the same brand and chose to offer good shadow formulas and went and cheeped out on packaging I might be willing to try them again but as they are currently never
Always thought the Makeup Revolution business model was untenable. I'm honestly surprised it has lasted this long. The sheer amount of waste they must produce annually is border line unimaginable.
That is always what my mind goes to also: the WASTE!! there is no way they sell anywhere close to all of the products they produce so where do they all end up?
Exactly, the waste aspect is so important. The contemporary makeup consumer is far more eco-conscious than those a decade ago or even five years ago. People are more willing to buy one expensive product than a bunch of cheap ones if that one product ends up seeing use and doesn’t just get thrown away.
Colourpop is not far behind. I loathe both brands but it's strange to me that people shun the waste of Makup Revolution but for some reason still loves Colourpop. In the end both stand for an unsustainable business model and hand on heart 90% of the makeup they produce will be in declutters 5 years from now, barely used. Complete waste and considering the global economic situation I think there's a steel bath incoming.
@@ragataskata168 honestly, i've noticed this even on this channel. i've been talking about how i've stopped or at least significantly reduced buying from both because of how wasteful/poor for the environment they are but people still excitedly poop their pants for colourpop releases while tearing down makeup revolution. they're like the same brand- releasing collab after collab with little to no downtime between releases producing mountains of waste. they are both not good for this reason. i wouldn't hate on either if they slowed down new product releases to something like quarterly releases and only one or two releases per quarter (so 8 releases per year if that)
If Morphe or E.L.F. were the only makeup brands available, I would wear them. I do wear them. But if Makeup Revolution was the only makeup brand available, I would never wear makeup again.
I would rather pay more for my makeup than buy from makeup revolution I have one highlighter that I have kept out of all the other stuff I used to have from them.
In Ireland and the UK we have Boots (our Ulta / Kicks). I cannot tell you the number of my fav brands that got squeezed out or drastically reduced in size just to accommodate the 2 huge Isles the revolution brands needed when they came to the shop. Its such a shame.
Okay, I may be the Devil's advocate. I definetely gonna miss Makeup Revolution, because in my country (Hungary) drugstores usually carry even worse quality and more boring makeup if you want anything affordable . They also push out stuff sometimes that is NOT a rosey or nude palette. Yes. I live in a damn boring drugstore makeup desert.
Can't you order stuff from lookfantastic or the like? I live in Finland and nowadays we actually do have some decent brands in store, but if you want something that isn't a boring nude, you will gave to shop online lol
I have family in Hungary that I visit every year and I was always confused by the lack of stuff available in the drugstores (outside Budapest). I’m pretty sure you can order online but I understand that it can be a little difficult to find your shade etc. I live in a small town in Sweden with only Lindex and H&M available for in-store makeup so I kind of relate, while I’m also seeing that this is still better than what you have there!
Great video Angie!!! I'm a financial auditor for publicly traded companies in the US and a makeup fanatic, so as you can imagine this news is super fascinating to me cause it combines my profession with my favorite hobby. Would love to add some additional accounting context on what exactly MR's auditors found for anyone interested! It looks like two of the biggest areas they found accounting inconsistencies with are revenue recognition and bad debt reserves. Accounting rules are very strict on how and when companies can record revenues, and that process has no relation to when the cash is actually collected by the company. Basically companies often record revenue far before the actual cash is collected, and those sales are recorded as "accounts receivable" or A/R until the cash is collected. Bad debt provisions don't actually have anything to do with loans or bank debt, it's essentially an estimate that's performed by the company on how much of their A/R they'll actually collect on in cash from their customers (basically how much of their revenues recorded is actually converted into cash receipts). The revenue recognition inconsistencies hint to MR not appropriately recording their revenues based on how/when it was actually earned, and the issues with their bad debt provisions are probably that they're estimating that they'll collect more cash on their A/R than they actually will. Basically revenues are inflated + they say they're going to have more future cash flow than they actually will = liquidity issues, which means they might not have enough cash in the future to pay back their bank loans/other financial liabilities. That's why they're using their line of credit access to explain away the issue, but depending on what happens with their business in the future that still doesn't guarantee they'll be able to honor their obligations without some form of major refinancing or restructuring. I'd bet $$ that their bad debt reserves/cash collection issues have to do with their major customers in the US being places like ULTA, CVS, etc. If the products they're selling to retailers aren't then being sold to customers and are sitting on shelves untouched for months, I highly doubt ULTA or CVS is going to be motivated to pay their outstanding invoices from MR quickly for product they can't sell. And any past sales they made to Russia or Ukraine retailers are very unlikely to ever be converted to cash for obvious reasons given the last few months. That's of course just speculation on my part, but wouldn't be surprised if that's the main thing driving this issue. TLDR accounting rules are weird and MR is doing legal, but not supported by the facts, accounting to make better profit estimates than reality to make themselves look like they'll have more cash on hand to pay their obligations than they probably will without outside intervention. I'm really interested to see what happens with them next in all of this.
@@BlahBlah-sz4ne aww yay I'm so glad! I know business jargon especially when it comes to accounting can sound like gibberish sometimes if you aren't familiar with it. I'm happy to help make sense of things!!
Well...that may explain why we haven't seen the new BH release that was supposed to be this summer. A lot of people including myself were excited to hear about it and then nothing. I guess we will see what happens.
I'd honestly miss MR because it's the only brand I can get in a physical store that has this many colourful products that interest me. There just aren't brands like that here and I am definitely not going to build up a mountain of products so I don't have to order for another half a year and pay shipping every time for that. I roll my eyes everytime people say, 'Oh ColourPop is drugstore, or e.l.f. just buy that'.......it's not drugstore for me 🤔... If I can't get it in a physical store here .......it's not drugstore.... Sorry to burst your bubble. I'm not like a make-up connoisseur, I like it just enough and can get away with meh quality or I make it work. Not to sound mean though 😅, love your videos Angie♥️
That’s more on the stores and what kind of contracts they have, I’d say. We all want to pay less of a coin, but I don’t really think that people who can’t afford all the fancy stuff, should be in the place where you can only buy some bs. I also agree that buying in the store would be the best, but I also think that people who’s budget is quite tight shouldn’t be offered lower quality stuff for the sake of price. You’re deffo better than that. And I hope one day this paradox will be over as there are brands who can offer good and great things for the same or almost the same price.
I don't think it's mean, it's just your demographic. Like makeup is all preference in the same way one artist loves acrylic paints and another only does digital art. You don't make content around makeup, so there is no point in you trying a number of brands if you've found what works for you. Take Physician's Formula, they cater to their demographic and what they want, and that gives them longevity. It seems MakeupRevolution has taken on more than it's capable of; they need to tighten up and edit themselves.
the same is in Slovenia, we have drugstores like Muller and DM and thats it. here Makeup Revolution is in drugstores and so is Maybelline, Max factor, Deborah, Milani... Normally the payment here is not good and prices for everything risen up. Ordinary people don't afford that much to buy luxury brands or high end makeup products, because they need to pay the bills, buy food and very little of monthly income left for them to buy high end makeup. If i want Colourpop i will need to order it and pay shiping. As a student i don't dare to spend my cash much, maybe later when i get real job
I can’t stress enough how much I hate Makeup Revolution. Their eyeshadows gave me terrible allergic reactions, their concealer should be called emphasizer instead, because it shows lines I don’t even have, one foundation slides off and another makes me look 347 years old… I’m fed up with them, their branding, the way they pump out a thousand things a week, their repetitive color schemes (essentially half the stuff is repackaged time and time again), their sucky concepts that they flog to death… this company is just tiring, kid’s makeup quality, knockoff brand. Like, I feel very strongly about my dislike of Makeup Revolution lol. Anyway, #justiceforbhcosmetics
Over saturation in the market is going to be Makeup Revolution's downfall one day. The multiple releases and sub-brands must have stretched their resources thin to cause an over estimation of profit. Just because you produce tons of product does not mean you'll sell it. I challenge them to spend some time editing down the number of products (and sub brands) to create more memorable products that will stand out amongst the competition
Revolution Beauty need to drastically reduce the amount of subbrands and stick with 4 like revolution skin , revolution hair , revolution Makeup and Revolution Men . Also they need to reduce the amount of new releases per year so they can really focus on putting there 100% attention on each release making sure the packaging and mostly the quality is always on point . Take advantage of the BH cosmetics formula. Make sure they are putting plenty of time between the releases so it's not overwhelming for customers and then it allows people to try and review there products properly giving more time to enjoy it , play with it and recommend it to others . All in all reduce subbrands , reduce the amount of releases per year and put a longer amount time between each release , give each release the full attention it needs so that quality , packaging and marketing are always on point don't rush it Revolution.
They don’t want to be a quality, thought out brand, they are exactly what they want to be - cheap and fast! They are the equivalent of fast fashion brands like Shein or Boohoo(hah! Isn’t it ironic they want a stake in the business!!), brands that copy better brands, just make it cheaper. Their target is the people who want a cheap dupe of a high end brands. This proliferates all the markets now, look at all the knock offs you can get today, of everything!!!! Why would they want to change what they are doing now? They are still making a profit, so they have to rethink how much but most brands are facing that in today’s markets. They are going to continue in the same path, there will always be customers for their products 🙄
They can’t compete with the eyeshadow formula they have. Look at beauty bay. So affordable and amazing quality. Hopefully this will make revolution wake up and change things for the better. And release less stuff ! ❤️
Something I love about your channel is how you talk about the logistics of business. I'm an accountant, so I find it an interesting blend of my interest in makeup and my profession 🤣😍
When I first got into makeup, I really liked MR, especially their new-trals or whatever it was called palette. It was fun that they were low cost so I could try a lot of stuff at once. Then I started liking them less and less. I don't know if this change was just from trying more makeup and finding better things out there, running into Makeup Revolution that were worse, or Makeup Revolution getting worse all together. I remember being so excited to get the Welcome to the Pleasuredome palette because the packaging was so cool, but all of the shadows inside had no color payoff.
I'm only concerned since they bought BH, and I've been (impatiently) waiting for them to come back all year. If MR was gone forever, I wouldn't notice. But BH?! 😭
I don’t review makeup for a living, so I don’t feel like I have to keep trying Makeup Revolution. I’ve tried a few things in the past and wasn’t impressed. They weren’t even adequate. So I just ignore the brands.
They put a sour taste in my mouth when I realized they were doing the duping/basically IP theft thing. I haven't purchased from them in many years and have no plans to. They also give me real sweatshop vibes. We may roast Colourpop daily but at least their quality isn't consistently dogpoo. 😒 No tears shed here for the brand. Step it up in quality or get left in the dust, folks.
I made the mistake of buying one MUR product. It was their “version” of a PMG Mothership palette. It was awful. No pigment. It was the only time the brand got my money. They have too many “sister brands” and release too much.
I find it interesting how Makeup Revolution keeps expanding to other countries whereas Colourpop is staunchly remaining only in the US. I would bet their (Colourpop) sales would rise even more if they had a flagship warehouse in Ireland, France or Germany to enter the EU (being more specific here since this is where I am from), or one in Latin America, Africa or Asia. On the other hand I am wondering if moving to other regions helped increase Makeup Revolution's sales that much.
I don't think they can. A lot of US brands don't meet the EU regulations and standards, so they sometimes have to actually rebrand or reformulate to enter the EU market and with the range that colorpop has I can imagine it's not a profitable option for them.
Worried now, because I was hoping things would get better and BH Cosmetics would help with the eyeshadow game.😔 I have lots of Revolution products that I really really love!..but I don't buy blind as much as I used to. I wait to see what Pampered Wolf and AlixKate on TH-cam think before I buy them.🤷🏻♀️☺️ Totally agree that there are duds and half thought out releases...and the millions of sub-brands are daft. xo
I think in the UK drugstores are quite small and don’t really have many brands of makeup, a lot of those brands are very well established like L’Oréal and Rimmel, so for Makeup Revolution to turn up in every shop with stands isn’t really interesting people who are loyal to certain brands
I've noticed they've been pushing more and more products out. I only use a few of their skincare and haircare items as they have benefited me massively. Stick to the basics folks. Please!
When I first got into makeup I loved MR for the variety and price. As I've improved my skills and my preferences have changed, I rarely look to MR anymore. I only use a few of their products at this point. These days there are other affordable brands who are far more consistent with their product quality.
Its so interesting that makeup revolution came to my country last year and it sells so well here, and in other European countries I have been to but because those markets are smaller than the us they probably have less of an effect on net sales . I know people on you tube don't really like makeup revolution but people love their products on tiktok and all the people in my life who uses makeup but not into social media as well . I suspect that one reason is they're the only affordable brand with something for fair complexion or deeper than a medium because shade ranges are quite awful unless you go to a makeup artist brand or Estée Lauder.
I don't mind the quality of Makeup Revolution. We don't get many brands in Croatia and im a strictly drugstore priced makeup gal. I don't mind the eyeshadow quality because im a 1-3 shades eyelook person. I don't need eyeshadows to seemlessly blend into a giant rainbow eyelook. But the problem I have with MUR is that they put out too many things that are literally the same. The last thing I bought from them are those Avocado and Peach eye palettes which were released years ago. I would love for them to have creative color stories so I would buy more eyeshadows.
I've always seen MR as a brand for kids or early teens. It's cheap and okay for beginners in make up. I've never considered it for myself as I feel they are not targeted towards adults and the quality is so poor. I would not miss them if they were going out of buissness. Thanks for this honest and to the point video❤️
I am overwhelmed by Revolution Beauty. I tried the skincare too - feels nothing. However, I am always excited about their foundation. I find it cheap and "workable" - the IRL - yes, the shade was not correct (mine was 2 shades darker), but the performance is good. Conceal and Define is a good line. The Stick foundation and the foundation drops .. it's so- so but I finished it. Revolution Beauty - just downsize your stuff and - Merge Makeup Revolution, Makeup Obesssion and I Heart Revolution into 1 - Merge XX Revolution and Revolution Pro into 1 - What the heck is Revolution GYM??? cant it be a collection under your skincare? Wondering what BH Cosmetics is thinking now....
I get greed vibes. They were probably over-valued at the IPO since markets were euphoric back in 2021, and the owners saw a good opportunity to cash out at a good price.
I really enjoyed Makeup Revolution at the start. I also found the founder to be lovely but his interaction and personalisation seemed to fade away. I then realised how bad ‘fast makeup’ is for the environment so now I try to be as minimal waste as possible. Not to mention a lot of ingredients in a lot of brand’s Makeup including theirs started to cause skin issues for me. I gave away nearly all of my collection except for some eyeshadow palettes and a couple of highlighters. If they focused on one Makeup line instead of multiple and moved to greener ingredients with biodegradable packaging/refills I would certainly try them again. Definitely not a fan of Boohoo.
YES!! To the amount instore!! In Australia, or in my state anyway, it takes up half the makeup aisle, then its Rimmel, Maybelline etc. I dont even bother going into the drugstore, or even looking online. revolution, now that i think about it, has turned me off drugstore.
As soon as I seen the news about Makeup Revolution, I couldn’t wait to hear your thoughts on it! I love these chatty type videos ❤️ although definitely don’t love makeup brands being in trouble
I would love to be a fly on the wall at the location of whoever at Revolution is making the decisions for the brand. I cannot comprehend, from a business perspective, why they are making the decisions they are making. And now they have their hands on BH cosmetics? Somebody better wake up there and do so very fast. IMO I have the same creme bronzer you do and the Looney Tunes makeup bag. Nothing else. And the bronzer was reviewed by a YT’er I trust, otherwise I wouldn’t have even given that the chance? ❤️
You summarized pratically everything I think about the brand ! I’ve heard about it around 2015 because of the copy cat products. I bought a few products at the time, but I didn’t like the quality. 3 years ago I bought a few things again to give it a chance, and I found a white foundation that I love for SFX stuff, but they stopped to produce it apparently 😑 and I didn’t like other stuff. Finally, a few months ago I bought a few collab items for my collection (Matrix, Simpson, & Friends collabs), and I must say I love the Halloween Simpson highlighter duo, I like the Matrix palette, but I hate the Friends gloss so I don’t think I’m going to buy several products soon. I guess the strategy of Make-up Revolution was to become well known on the market, make more and more products to sell more and more but… this kind of growth has a limit, and I think you are right when you say there are at a turning point. They can do better if they focus on quality over quantity, and if they totally drop the copy cat stuff. Also, maybe the reason they have so many brands is that they bought small brands or factories (still to product more) and just named the companies « revolution something » to make them part of the group ? I’m not sure but doing this costs a lot of money, and you have to sell a lot after such investments :/
NYX was the brand that helped me see makeup has quality! Like I would get Revlon quads and cry that I was so terrible at makeup, but at the time I couldn't afford to go to Macy's and get higher end. NYX proved drugstore can compete, so I never like to write drugstore off... but MakeupRevolution is just so disappointing and only gave me 2004 Walgreens Makeup Section PTSD.
Omg! I refuse to purchase anything revolution due to the customer service. The last time I ordered from them I had two products that I felt “went bad”. A lip gloss that had beads in it and smelled icky and a vitamin c serum that was brown and smelled. It took two weeks to get an $11 refund. Back and forth I sent pictures of everything. I never return products but this I felt was needed in case others were using expired products. They were very vague and kept giving me the run around. I have never returned before and they said they needed to make sure it wasn’t fraud. I’m like look at my account I’ve never returned anything. I’m done with that brand!
As someone who worked for boots as the cosmetic persons - I can count on one finger how many times I had to reorder stock for xxx revolution . It just didn’t sell yet had the biggest stan. It was such a waste of space honestly . At the time I did not get an elf stand and it was so annoying because I had the stock but not the stand but believe me I was selling out of elf all the time .
Kaisaaaa 😭💕 I remember back in the day-day, when MUR was really into the duping game, they even went so far as to dupe viral pro products. Pro products! The Ben Nye banana powder that became popular with the 'baking' trend comes to mind. Around that time I was in Ulta and I watched two shoppers see the dupe bottles on the top shelf of the MUR gondola, go "oh wow, I've been wanting to try this", and immediately pick them up to put in their bag. The marketing confusion worked, in that instance! But I guess not any more 😒
I bought Ben Nye Powder years ago and it was CHEAP in price. I love it and it's still cheap. I've mentioned here to Angie but she never reviewed it. Remember when she wanted "white" eye shadow, I mentioned it again. Oh well...
It’s so true that people remember bad expiriences more than bad. Makeup Revolution made me realize I should spend my money on cheaper product if I want to buy something similiar (like Essence or Catrice). There was a boom of MUR in my country (EU) when they came to drugstore their products sold out but nowadays their stands are full 😂
Love to hear your thoughts on this matter. I feel the same way on pretty much every point you mentioned. I’ve never tried anything from the brand because I hate playing makeup Russian roulette with my money. I’d rather pay a little more and be sure to appreciate what I’ve got. Even collaborations that I love the aesthetic of couldn’t steer me into buying from them 🤔
I'm literally surprised that this brand is still making any kind of money. I have only one product from MUR and lucky me it's great quality red lipstick, but even though I so far had good experience with the brand I have zero interest in buying anything else since 1) nobody really talks about their products anymore so I don't even know what they're releasing 2) most things get negative reviews 3) 90% of their stuff is ugly and not appealing at all
You hit it right on the head, the only time a MR products interests me is a collab, and even then, I may buy half of the time. I caved on some of the Elf collection last Christmas, because, how could you not? Nostalgia really, really pulled at me with Dr. Suess, but the actual product inside the packaging looked absolutely horrible. It's a shame, they do packaging really, really well, if only they'd put that effort into the makeup itself.
I see a lot of people saying that they would rather buy make-up online than make up Revolution. The thing is, you are thinking with the mind of a beauty enthusiast, if you are here on a youtube video it means that you are knowledgeable about this stuff. But when normal people go to the drugstore (here in Italy) they mostly only find the absolutely overpriced l'oreal and maybelline (20€ for a foundation!!!), Catrice and essence, and if they are "normal" people they won't go shop make-up online. They don't know what a good eyeshadow formula is, when i started out i had 3 palettes from makeup Revolution and to me at that time that formula was fine cause i didn't know what a good eyeshadow formula was. Now none of those 3 is in my collection, but I see why in europe the sales are not that bad.
Time to grab the backup stash of favourite last available BH palettes in a local drugstore. I knew nothing good can come out of that bussines deal 😒😪.I supose they ll be Boho s shitty cosmetics cooperation and something like Shein s cosmetic will come as a result.😟
I don't think people dislike MUR that much, especially a lot of smaller creators do a lot with their stuff and even like older things, not just new releases and people outside the beauty community mostly have some MUR in their collection s because it's one of the most recommended things that everyone can get and it's like the brand people recommend like to a friends, class mate, a lot of the times the first brand people shop from and if they like it well enough they stick to it, so I rather think, as someone mentioned in the comments, that they stretched their resources too thin with all the sub-brands and collabs and didn't realize that it's not going to double the volume of their sale if they have twice as many brands as it is more or less still the same people buing the same amount of products... For my part, I like them, I get why other people don't like them and I do use Revolution with my ND, Too Faced, Lancome... and I don't have less fun with it.
I bought Revolution's 9 pan Mermaid eye palette from Marshalls and their face powder in a bottle. Both are winners to me. Only. 2 faced originals for this girl. I hope they can continue to give BH Cosmetics full creative license because I like what they have been doing.
I love your content. I am 60 and now and this thanks to you also picking up colourful eyeshadows. Thank you for that. I am sad for MR. I do have products of them. I tried a Quad of XXRevolution and it is really good, same for their blushes. Also the dewy blushes. And so I was encouraged to try other things. A Colourbook was okay. But the reloaded palettes didn’t work for me. Also tried some skincare products. What I tried was good. I would call myself a skintellectual. And I pick and select thoroughly. And for many products it is really a matter of preferences. You like colours and I learn to use them thanks to you. Kind Regards. Mieke
They should take ColourPop as a model and dial it back like 10 notches at least, like MAYBE a release or 2 per month (if that is the kind of brand they want to be) max.. and just be one brand, no spin-offs. It would benefit them tremendously to use that extra money to develop formulas that meet baseline quality that is at least wearable. And obviously don’t copy other brands. People exist that will be loyal to them, even with the shady history (I mean I read those trendmood comments on that JS collection 👀I would have assumed no one supported him anymore🤷🏻♀️), if they can get it together/dial it back and figure out their niche. No one wants to waste money on a product they can’t use because it is so shite, no matter how cheap it is. I hope they use all this social media attention as an opportunity to redirect and do better!
I will not buy from the brand. I hate how hit and miss it is. On top of that their releases are WAY to big and so unnecessary. The only thing I bought from them was a small 9 pan batman palette ONLY because I love batman and would collect it despite quality.
Well, I’ve mentioned it in some of your other vids that MUR was the one to hit me off the rails of makeup in general with their quality which was a fact I simply didn’t know. The only thing I really liked and I also used pretty much fully was their baked blush, that one was good. Other than that I thought in the beginning that there’s smth wrong with me and passion towards this whole makeup thing just because I couldn’t get the colors I wanted out of the pans. Let’s not even talk about the shimmers! Ofc, the other thing is that in my country there’s a huge drugstore chain which is for last years somewhat actively cooperating with local influencers who are really selling this, doing the looks & tutorials, and I rarely see anyone really going about anything outside that circle. I got on that rail with MUR as one of my colleagues also was selling it as smth super great and with great quality. I just felt disappointed in a while and in fact blamed myself for that till I dropped into beauty community a lot later. I’m sad to see that these things are sold as the best things ever, indeed, when everything’s changing for the good and we can buy a lot better things for fairly similar price, so, this brand also could improve their quality. We also have a beauty chain working with fairly medium expensive & high end brands, but, tbh, I don’t really see these anywhere. I just think that my country is so cheap that we need to also promote the cheap stuff. You should see them when they hear that I bought your palette for 45$ or that I bought CP palette for 20$. Everything is sooo expensive, “why do you buy such stuff”, and I’m, like, sure, but the result is on the face and people quite often asks me what is this and where you can get it, cuz in our stores everything is mostly gray/brown and doesn’t dazzle at all. At this point, I dunno, what they’d do, if MUR would actually die out. Maybe finally they would cooperate with CP. 😆 I’ve also had a bit intense discussion on multichromes with the local influencer, who was according to me quite sure that those prices are too much, and then I explained why they are like that and why most likely you won’t get anything close to that on AliExpress for just couple of euros. 👀 As usual, didn’t mean it to be such an essay, but here we are again, cuz I also have thoughts. 👀 What I can say at the end of this all is MUR needs to step up their game and needs to stop with that abnormal release amount. And my country needs to change the mindset. You’re a youtuber and feel overwhelmed by it, I’m a hobbyist/consumer, and I’m also overwhelmed by it. Quality over quantity should be their new slogan, and I hope they won’t let the BH die. I was really waiting for their comeback this month. 🥲
@@petra1995 ahh, my bad with the name. I wrote it down everywhere due to my work and creeps being in those work chats (online casino, yo!). 😅 That country is Latvia, not far away from both Sweden & Finland. 😆 Everything here makeup-wise is just gray & boring, imo, if smth is colorful, it’s mostly sad quality. And MUR here is being sold like there’s no tomorrow.
@@queenofwales_ Ah I looked at a job in Latvia once and the pay was ...not great (compared to Sweden). I can understand not wanting to pay 45$ for an eyeshadow palette if you live in a lower income country.
Exactly. They wouldn't even need to do that much, just improve their formula to a decent quality. I give them credit for releasing more than just warm toned neutrals (aka oranges) like most other brands on the market but I can't do much with a beautiful colour story if the formula isn't usable. I bought one of their 18-pan Halloween palettes last year but literally all the shades hard panned after the first use, mattes and shimmers alike. I've tried everything, scraping, scotch taping you name it but nothing helps, so I basically threw that money out the window. It doesn't exactly inspire trust in the brand but at the same time it seems like such an unforced error. Even the cheapest brands can produce sg that at least works, and MR is not *that* cheap in drugstore terms.
I think you are spot on about Makeup Revolution. The only products I’ve bought over the past 2yrs have been purely for nostalgia purposes and not to actually use the products because they are not good. Meanwhile I’m buying every release from my favorite brands. I’m still sad they bought BH.
What's sad about MR is that when they came to our drugstores around 2014-ish with the UD Naked dupes, the quality wasn't that bad at all. I bought the Naked 3 dupe for my sister and she still uses it, around 7 years in and it still performs very well. I was suspecting problems when BH Cosmetics kept putting off a release even though they were teasing sg new months ago. I hope MR doesn't take BH down with them, I was so looking forward to something new from that brand. I just used the Do Not Disturb palette the other day and their formula is absolutely top notch.
Makeup Revolution’s high point was the Soph collabs. I have used their eye primer for a long time and it’s solid. Everything else I’ve ever purchased from them is no longer in my collection. Cut the 5 million sub brands. Go back to just being Makeup Revolution and focus on quality. Wet n Wild is doing better quality items than MUR right now. I don’t buy a lot of drugstore palettes, but I love Stitch and WnW killed it with that collab. I do buy drugstore pencils and stuff but I buy NYX or Milani. . . because I hate tossing stuff that isn’t great. I love seeing you cuddle with the new puppy 🐶
I have no faith in the main Makeup Revolution brands recovering and learning from this experience. However now I am really worried about the BH cosmetics relaunch. The silence about the relaunch is really making more sense as it was supposed to go live in August and there's not much time left.
The BH integration has taken too long. It was announced last winter, 9ish months ago n nothing has come out. That is forever n ppl will forget about it. Also British creators think Revolution products are good when watching their videos. Think fewer options in UK than US.
I agree! MUR should be focusing on BH!! Someone "in charge" is NOT getting it! We all love BH's formula. Some creator (don't remember who) showed a "sneak peak" of 3 new BH palettes about a month ago. I remember one was Egypt..... WHERE are they??
Around 2017/2018, MR had some really good releases. The stick foundation, the taste dupe concealer. They were also collabing with influencers like Soph and up and coming influencers. But then they really lost their way. Too many collaborations with IPs but with bad design. I do wonder who their head of design is? I think the design on the packaging is a big reason they haven't been doing very well. When you look at Colourpop, their designs are beautiful and on trend and they're the same kind of price point. I haven't bought something from MR in a while, but I will not lie, I'd be sad to see it go as it is so affordable for some people.
Revolution has potential. They have a lot of products I love, but I agree, that most of their releases are just very bad quality. I bought only three eyeshadow palettes and never really used them, because of the quality. But their face products are usually my cup of tea. I like their ideas and if they would just take their time with the concept work and so on, they could slay. Also: it's the only brand in german drugstores that is a little more fun. We don't have e.l.f, Morphe and so on. We have Maybelline, L'Oréal, Catrice, Essence, Nyx and some store brands. A few years ago some stores started selling Physicians Formula, but it flopped. I guess because the prices were too high and tbh, they aren't the best quality either, especially in that price range.
I used to love Makeup Revolution, but the amount of stuff they release gave me choice fatigue and boredom at the same time, they faked a hacker attack to create suspance for their Halloween release with Alexis Stone, the Planet Revolution subbrand pissed me off (most of their products isn't even silicones free, silicones are NOT natural, it's plastic okay???), so I'm npt surprised. I can just hope they'll take that as a sign to stop releasing so much and focus on quality. I feel Makeup Revolution is mavchine gunning stuff at us and I'm tired of dodging it like Neo in the Matrix! 0.o
I fully agree with you. The affordable makeup market is huge at this point and there are even a lot of affordable indie brands who are smashing it right now. Makeup revolution no longer fills the gap in the market that they used to when the brand started
Makeup Revolution can make good products and I think they need to slow down and put more thought into the actual formulas instead of on collabs and cutesy packaging. Back like 6 or so years ago they had good makeup compared to what was available for a similar price. However since then most more affordable brands like Maybelline and elf have upped their formulas so the stuff that was good in the past isn't comparable now. Did that make sense lol
I love Revolution, I only use their skincare line because it's bomb for my skin but I agree about the excess of new makeup or the bad quality of said makeup. If they could take the time to develop great formulas. I would miss the brand because she's accessible for me (EU) and I really like their primer, skincare and lip products.
I bought 2 MR products, the Chilled Palette, which I haven't tried yet, & Cut Crease Canvas. I like the Cut Crease Canvas. I'm scared to buy anything else because their quality is, at the very least, questionable.
I was one of those that purchased everything at the start. I was invited to a few of their birthday events and Halloween events. Had a lot of fun at them and became friendly with Mr Minto he seemed lovely at the time. I had people asking if I was part of team Revolution due to the time we would spend chatting. But that same interaction isn’t there anymore and there’s too many releases now. Often products are repackaged also. I had a cream blush palette from them about 6 months later they launched a “new” blush palette but it was shade for shade the exact same and the same formula. They then stopped inviting smaller influencers/bloggers to just invite those with a large following. I now have very little Revolution in my collection. Some of the products were good but would not last as long. Like the brow pomade it would dry out quickly. I loved the freedom brow powder kit which I still have a back up of. I also still love the conceal and define concealer. I think they need to change how they do their business model and interaction as they launch too much for public consumption
I second lip liner! I had my favourite one oj colour Blossom, I had it like three months and it dried out to something hard to describe. Recently I bought a mascara which is so rubbish! It's too wet and I ruined my shirt!
I only buy the items a TH-camr I trust recommended. Like I want to try the cream bronzer because Andrea Mattilano likes it. I tried their eyeshadow years ago and have never gone back for another one
I remember when MUR was basically a Too Faced knock off brand. Here in their home the UK there would be whole displays of the copycat chocolate bar palettes and the heart blushes amd highlighters in stores and they were awful just like chalk. They still try to copy anything they like, the Charlotte Tilbury highlighter etc.. Ironically the items they don't copy like their foundations and concealers are some of their best products. I recently tried a couple of their blushes the liquid blush bomb pretty much disappeared on my super pale skin, the tube one is pretty good. I just don't like MUR much if I'm honest, but every couple of years I'll give them a try, just to see if they've improved. I much prefer ELF in that price range and for eyeshadow at low prices BH Cosmetics had it down. I love them like I love high end formulas.
The only 2 products from Revolution I truly liked aren't even make-up, they're Charcoal face mask from their skincare brand and lip balm from I Heart Revolution Tasty collection. I don't buy anything else from this horrible brand.
I am sometimes tempted to buy from makeup revolution, the stick foundation I really loved and might repurchase, but I have to stop myself cause I overpurchase, having cute packaging and somewhat cheap. I end up with a lot of clutter because they are products I don’t love. This happenes to me with most drugstore brands tho. It’s hard to beat my highend products and impossible to compare to my indie eyeshadows. I have enough makeup as it is, I don’t need products in my life that I’m not 100% happy with.
My first highlighter was a MR baked highlighter. I loved it and actually used it up. I tried a concealer and it was just ok. The brand really doesn’t interest me when there are more consistent brands out there.
I think that Makeup Revolution, in all of its iterations, should restrategize and do some serious reformulating. I have a few products from the brand that I do enjoy. I have a pressed powder bronzer that I use as setting powder, it leans light/medium and is too light to bronze with, for me. It was in a gift bundle and I use it most of the time. I have a couple of pressed powder highlighter palettes, that I really like. Other than that, I'm not really into any of their product lines. They need to take a step back and look into why their products aren't selling, like they should. They also need to reformulate.
I agree. They have some products that are good, but instead of expanding those, they start releasing othe mediocre and uninspired products and let some of their good products fall into oblivion until they're discontinued.
I bought the two smaller Matrix palettes. One was more bright and poppy, and the other was deep and gloomy.... and I made the exact same eye look with both palettes. On accident. And I hated the experience. The video is on my channel. I paid full price, and didn't get the Red Pill, Blue Pill palette because that sucker is just TOO large... and the only purpose it serves me is of a reminder that I do not have to buy everything and just because it's a franchise I adore... doesn't mean it's going to be good. If Fenty/Melt/TooFaced/NYX/Morphe came out with a Matrix Collection I would get it in a heartbeat, but because these brands for the faults, they have delivered on quality products where MakeupRevolution has always been something I've thrown out.
So I used to buy eyeshadows palettes from them because they do offer non-carmine containing shadows that were much prettier than 'vegan' brands UNTIL I discovered indie brands like Unearthly and even the Norvina Pro palettes. I haven't bought from them except for the collabs with makeupby Tammi and Patricia Bright because I wanted to support. Those palettes were good and I still use them but nothing else. I agree. Quality over quantity. The thing with indie makeup is most is limited quantity so it's like a war at launch. Whereas a company like makeup revolution if they put out good products they could actually just produce enough to avoid the fomo a lot of indie brands inspire in me.
I'm not surprised about the news... the few items I had purchased were decluttered a couple of years ago. Big rain today in Austin, and hope you and Ricardo are home safe. Kaisa's black brows are so cute.
They need to get BH up and running again. Releasing new stuff. This makes more sense now why we haven't seen BH come back quite yet. Makes me so sad though. I try to put myself in their (BH's) shoes and I would seriously not be having a good time right now if I were them. Business and business decisions are wild.
I think makeup revolution is more popular in europe than in states and i personally think it stands out from the drugstore stands in the supermarket. In my country, the most commoun drugstore brands you can find are maybelline, l'oreal, miss sporty and rimmel london. They are good for mascara, foundation, powder, lips but when it comes to eyeshadow, they are trash, can't even compare with makeup revolution. Plus, their packaging is not standing out at all, when the makeup revolution corner is very colourful and it makes you go like "uuu, what's that". I think a lot of people forget that the most majority of people don't go on the internet to buy makeup. They go into a store and something gets their attention and they buy it. Do i get headaches when i go to their website because there are so many things, especially eyeshadow palettes, absolutly, but someone who isn't passionate about makeup doesn't care.
I watch some people that love revolution and make some amazing looks with the products. That being said, I never get my looks to be good with their products lol. maybe I'm just not a good enough makeup artist because on me it's a patchy mess every time.
Makeup Revolution is selling at Walgreens now. So, the report on their profit must be true if they are selling their products from a drug store price point.
I think they also lean too much on collabs. Like the products that I always hear about are expensive collabs they do (like friends). However, that just isn’t a good business plan because makeup Revolution has to pay ulta a share of the profits to put it in stores and the collab for creative rights. Whereas the purpose of collabs is to get you reinvested in the brand and buy other products as well so if you just buy collabs and go back to sleeping on brand it doesn’t financially work. It’s like a coupon they are trying to get you on their site or store aisle in hopes you buy other things so they are profiting off of you even with the discount
i am still into makeup but no longer Rouge , no longer Platinum. i don't know if others feel the same: i am done with crap like Makeup Revolution and Morphe. I like Indie brands who do innovative stuff and seem to have earned the money I give them vs these makers who produce something for .05 cents and sell it for $9
I left this same comment on Jen's live yesterday, but I think they have to improve their quality and then send out PR to a bunch of beauty TH-camrs at various size levels. I've never tried MR b/c I've never heard a single channel I watch recommend them. I would need multiple channels to give them a vote of confidence before I'd spend my money there.
I hope they focus on improving their eyeshadow formulas, their color stories call to me more than almost any other brand but I have to remind myself not to get drawn into poor quality by fun colors 😂
I like the powder bronzer in the large golden compact and the brightener concealer that has the sponge end which looks like a CT dupe. Their glosses in the short stubby tube are good too. Nothing is good from XX Revolution that I have tried. Boohoo are taking over everything at the moment as Debenhams was a high street department store and now they are online only and a lot of product sold online there now is Boohoo.
Their is so many brands and prices keep going up and people are not getting paid more. So people are either going to buy the cheap stuff or save up to get something better. So we will see who survives .
Aahhh! Protect BH Cosmetics at all costs!
I'm so concerned 😩
I am so afraid
That was my first thought!!!
BH Cosmetics is the only inexpensive brand that I don't have an allergic reaction to! Its a great brand 😭
That was my very first thought when I saw jenluvs live yesterday. 😬
I think if they started putting out QUALITY products instead of pushing products with cute packaging and garbage formulas they could turn it around. They don’t need 50 subbrands putting out the same awful formula. They have bh’s formula, use it!!!
If they did away with everything the fun looking packaging the colabs, having 20
Different names for the same brand and chose to offer good shadow formulas and went and cheeped out on packaging I might be willing to try them again but as they are currently never
100% agree!!!
@@ragataskata168 Oh, I also hate Colourpop. They are the definition of Fast Fashion.
It's not all bad! The lip products are good as is their banana light powder
I would rather pay more for my makeup than buy from makeup revolution I have one highlighter that I have kept out of all the other stuff I used to have from them.
Crushed up berries and beet juice for me please!
I mainly wear Elf, Colourpop, and Nyx. So I would be good lol
@@raincloudsradio8900 ben nye banana light is literally $12 for the regular size and works SO much better
Honestly the only reason I care about this whole situation is because of BH 😅
In Ireland and the UK we have Boots (our Ulta / Kicks). I cannot tell you the number of my fav brands that got squeezed out or drastically reduced in size just to accommodate the 2 huge Isles the revolution brands needed when they came to the shop. Its such a shame.
Love Boots. So lucky❤️
Yess.. In my local one pixi, nyx, rimmel, milani are in one square small space together 😔
Usually the brand pays for the space or shelf space and location in the store, like a contract kind of
Okay, I may be the Devil's advocate.
I live in Hungary too but I rather buy makeup online (abroad) than use Makeup Revolution. For me quality is more important.
You are right, the drugstore makeup( like at Rossmans or DM) is dreadful!
I'm sorry :( that's terrible to hear.
Thanks so much for your explanation and speculations on causes. Really added value to my understanding of the video.
@@BlahBlah-sz4ne aww yay I'm so glad! I know business jargon especially when it comes to accounting can sound like gibberish sometimes if you aren't familiar with it. I'm happy to help make sense of things!!
Woooohoo another accountant who understands the financials.
@Bee Thank you for taking the time to interpret the situation and explain what's going on with their accounting. Your comment is helpful!
This was incredibly interesting and helpful. Thank you.
Whaaaaaa? I was waiting for the return of BH Cosmetics! 👀
@@HanasRoom digital art cannot be compared at all to real life paintings which require real skills!
the same is in Slovenia, we have drugstores like Muller and DM and thats it. here Makeup Revolution is in drugstores and so is Maybelline, Max factor, Deborah, Milani...
@@Verbsdescribeus Jujutsu Kaisen was animated on a computer... which took real skills. Any video game you've ever played, digital art. What?
#justiceforbhcosmetics I love that 🥰
Poor BH can't catch a break
Agree and Boohoo will probably give MR a new avenue to sell "fast" sub- par makeup to an international audience
The thing is- Shein’s makeup is actually good tho! Idk about the fashion but they did the makeup right.
They can’t compete with the eyeshadow formula they have. Look at beauty bay. So affordable and amazing quality. Hopefully this will make revolution wake up and change things for the better. And release less stuff ! ❤️
Send a chain of prayer for BH!!!!!!!! ✨✨✨😣😣😣😣
Something I love about your channel is how you talk about the logistics of business. I'm an accountant, so I find it an interesting blend of my interest in makeup and my profession 🤣😍
Thanks for sharing!
My thing is they BOUGHT a bomb ass formula soooooo why aren't they using it?!?
I can order Colour Pop from the US up to Canada. That’s all I can do.
Thanks for this honest and to the point video❤️
very valid point, thank you for sharing!
Revolution Beauty - just downsize your stuff and
- Merge Makeup Revolution, Makeup Obesssion and I Heart Revolution into 1
- Merge XX Revolution and Revolution Pro into 1
- What the heck is Revolution GYM??? cant it be a collection under your skincare?
In South Africa they still have the very same products on the shelf from 5 years ago. They need to declutter and concentrate on products we like.
YES!! To the amount instore!! In Australia, or in my state anyway, it takes up half the makeup aisle, then its Rimmel, Maybelline etc. I dont even bother going into the drugstore, or even looking online. revolution, now that i think about it, has turned me off drugstore.
Those highlight swatches 😱oh dang that’s hot
This worry’s me because their suppose to be helping BH soooo what’s gonna happen with that
You summarized pratically everything I think about the brand !
At the time I did not get an elf stand and it was so annoying because I had the stock but not the stand but believe me I was selling out of elf all the time .
oh that's so interesting!
Kaisaaaa 😭💕
I remember back in the day-day, when MUR was really into the duping game, they even went so far as to dupe viral pro products.
I have only one product from MUR and lucky me it's great quality red lipstick, but even though I so far had good experience with the brand I have zero interest in buying anything else since 1) nobody really talks about their products anymore so I don't even know what they're releasing 2) most things get negative reviews 3) 90% of their stuff is ugly and not appealing at all
I don’t like that they copy especially small brands like Lunar beauty
As usual, didn’t mean it to be such an essay, but here we are again, cuz I also have thoughts. 🥲
The country, is it Finland?
@@petra1995 Naahh, it’s not Finland, I have no clue, what’s going on there. 😆
@@queenofwales_ Then what's your country? Because you have a Swedish name but you mentioned Euros 😅
Just imagine what Makeup Revolution could do if they were only one company and not 6000 different subsidiaries, and their stuff was actually good
I feel like a lot of MR is for pre teens and teens. But the stuff they make that is clearly for adults needs to be better quality.
Made perfect sense! I feel like they fell behind when it comes to formulas :)
Havent heard those news so Im here for a bit of Gossip.
I've found that revolution lip products dry out really quickly, especially lip liners, which were lovely but turned into something resembling plastic.
The number of variant of subbrands make it feel like they are playing some kind of shell brand with their investments and debts.
I'd rather have less makeup that's top notch.. and no, not usually cheap!!... 😎✌🏼💜💜💜
Makeup Revolution is selling at Walgreens now. So, the report on their profit must be true if they are selling their products from a drug store price point.
In another note - Angie your whole look from makeup to hair to outfit & accessories is beautiful in this video.
If MUR was smart, they would adopt the BH Cosmetics eyeshadow formula.
I like Indie brands who do innovative stuff and seem to have earned the money I give them vs these makers who produce something for .05 cents and sell it for $9
Oh no poor BH Cosmetics! What's gonna happen now?
I totally agree. I just don't care about Revolution...
Love your look. 100% agree that they're just so hit and miss I almost never consider buying from them
I hope they focus on improving their eyeshadow formulas, their color stories call to me more than almost any other brand but I have to remind myself not to get drawn into poor quality by fun colors 😂
