at least you got in and out before all this CoVid hit, and i'm hoping you're all keeping well over there. i suppose that "Try Disney Food" would have been too derivative and likely to draw lawyers, considering my own reactions last time i ate at Disneyland. (Though that was '91 and it *could* have improved in the meantime.) IHOP is somewhat iconic, but there's other breakfast choices it would have been interesting to see that i don't know if you've got in Ireland. (Filibertos, Chik-Fil-A, etc)
Awww the French toast made me sad. If you ate it in the restaurant itself it would have had powdered sugar and your choice of blueberry, strawberry, or maple syrup

After a drunk night out, breakfast time is at 4 am and you and all your friends are sitting at a booth gulping down water and salivating over a FEAST because your asses couldn't decide if you were in the mood for chicken, hash browns, mozzarella sticks, pancakes, or that crack they call honey mustard so you say fuck it, we're getting it all. You leave the place with a to-go box and an incoming food coma and 0 regrets.
That's basically a Monte Cristo Sandwich. Make a double-decker sandwich with turkey, ham, swiss, and I like to use gruyere. Then take the entire sandwich and dunk in batter. Then deep fry. Finish with powdered sugar and jam on the side.

A French toast sandwich exists. It’s called a Monte Cristo. They used to be quite popular about 35 years ago. The way I had it, the center of it is melted Swiss cheese with Turkey and ham sandwiched between the bread, dipped in beaten egg, then fried on a griddle. Sprinkled lightly with powdered sugar. Freaking delicious, if done right. And the rhinoceros was likely just a leaf blower with an attitude problem.
“Chicken’s not a breakfast food” but IHOP is open over night and that’s where you go when you’re drunk at 2AM and no longer fear the demons in the parking lot.
Hell yes. That's the round 2 they need to have for the rest of the menu. Hit a few craft breweries, then follow up with iHop @ 2-3AM before hitting the sack... life is good.
I go to waffle house when drunk at 3 AM, myself. But, I would gladly go to IHOP anytime of day. You just haven’t lived until you’ve had breakfast for dinner.
@@leslieearthangel3473 chicken is pretty versatile and paired with waffles goes well with pretty much any time of day. I would suggest eating it in the morning so you have time to burn off more of the calories... but its still good for a "breakfast for dinner" meal.
Chicken and waffles came out of the Harlem renaissance, musicians and club goers leaving the bars wanted dinner, people getting up for work wanted breakfast, people started combining it.
I am so glad you have made this comment. It's really weird when I see Europeans get really confused about why America does the things they do and assumes it's some weird American habit when it actually comes from certain aspects of (sometimes specifically black) American culture.
Variations are also found in Pennsylvania Dutch culture as well. And the real history of fried chicken and similar dishes in American is important to understand (it's way more complicated than you think).
Hey, guys! I hope you had fun visiting America! Chicken and waffles has an interesting history. The combo was invented in Harlem in the 1930s. Jazz musicians were finishing work late. They needed something that bridged the gap between breakfast and dinner.
There is, at least a stuffed version. I used to make French toast with meat and cheese. You use two slices of bread sliced ham and your favorite cheese. Make sandwich then dip in egg/milk mixture, grill and slice at a angle when done.

You needed at least one butter per pancake and two syrups for the stack so that there was plenty of buttery,syrupy goodness on each pancake. And yes our portions are large…that’s why we are round or obsessed with exercise.👍❤️

No, you have to go to IHOP to get the full experience with the multi syrups and hot food. IHOP to go is no way near the same with to go butter and maple syrup in packages.
Trying to figure out which syrup you're going with is a struggle in its own right. Cuz some days you feel like blueberry, other days you feel like strawberry.... Some days you feel like maple and then the other times you feel like a combination.
Like eating with your fork turned over and the hash browns keep falling off (DJ). Some times you need a coach to get you in the game. Hope they know to unwrap a tamale if they are served them. Salante

I believe Chicken & Waffles started in Harlem, New York. The jazz nightclubs were open late and didn't close till the early morning hours. The musicians getting off work wanted dinner even if it was early in the morning and the people just waking up wanted breakfast so that is how chicken & waffles got to be a combination....so the story goes.
When I did a home stay in England the first thing the mother asked me was "Do you Americans still eat that god aweful breakfast with all the sugar?" I was like yes, yes we do along with the eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, sausage links & orange juice.
Yes, yes we do, as opposed to almost everything in a traditional English breakfast, which is fried. I don't think they're in a position to talk about unhealthy breakfasts.
Yes, life here in America is soooo expensive. After blowing our last paycheck on a new iphone for our 11 year old daughter (since she cracked her screen) it barely leaves us enough money to get a fifth flavor of Doritos to stock our kitchen pantry (our neighbor has all 17 flavors). All the while, we have been trying to save up for a new car because our current one is almost 3 years old and will be needing an oil change and new tires soon, so screw that, luckily the dealership said they could roll our old car payment into a new car payment that would only be 35% of our monthly take home. Living in a country with so many opportunities to make piss poor decisions is really tough.
It is too bad that everything looked cold. If the servings would have been hot with melted butter and enough syrup, it would have been 10 times better than whatever they were eating.
Chicken & Waffle can be eaten at any time but usually we use to have them after coming out the club at night before heading home, oh and never at IHOP.
Think of it as the food you'd get after a night at the pub. It's too late to call it a snack, and it's closer to sunrise than when you started, so yeah, it's breakfast.
I feel like they missed out on the American experience by ordering all that as sides. When the waitress brings out that big beautiful plate filled with pancakes eggs toast sausage and bacon, that is freedom. IHOP tapas style is just weird.

I loved this video (I'm American) because I loved the people so much. All of you were so honest and funny and happy and cute and everything. You missed on the french toast. It needs to be slathered with melted butter and maple syrup like the pancakes. It can be delicious. I love you guys alot!! The chicken and waffles were a thing that was big in the 30's and 40's. When you mix the sweet maple syrup and the salty breading on the chicken it makes it delicious. Thanks guys for making my day fun.
The worst part about this being the how/when they try IHOP is that they arent actually AT an IHOP so they have no idea that IHOP usually has 4 flavors of syrup for you to go through...

Hahaha!! Yeah. In America you can get a box to put whatever you don't finish in and take it home to either eat later, share with others or incorporate into another dish.. And, get more than one meal out of it. Some plates are loaded enough to share with a friend which can be a cheaper way to go. 🙂

I come from an area in America where chicken and waffles is chopped or sliced chicken in gravy which is poured over waffles and served like biscuits and gravy. It’s really frickin’ yummy. Syrupy chicken isn’t quite sacrilege, but I prefer them fully autonomous.

I'm not sure of the specific origin, but I know this is considered "Soul Food", and may well have been cooked up in that time period, but I feel like it might be even older. The only thing I'm sure of is that it's bedtime and now I'm hungry..

Every American Ever: There's a savory french toast?????
There is, at least a stuffed version. I used to make French toast with meat and cheese. You use two slices of bread sliced ham and your favorite cheese. Make sandwich then dip in egg/milk mixture, grill and slice at a angle when done.
@@tumbleweed249 Yep, that's only for a specific sandwich (which you described- the cheese is typically gruyere, or swiss and the meat is ham but sometimes turkey is added) called the Monte Cristo. It's fantastic.

You needed at least one butter per pancake and two syrups for the stack so that there was plenty of buttery,syrupy goodness on each pancake. And yes our portions are large…that’s why we are round or obsessed with exercise.👍❤️

No, you have to go to IHOP to get the full experience with the multi syrups and hot food. IHOP to go is no way near the same with to go butter and maple syrup in packages.
Trying to figure out which syrup you're going with is a struggle in its own right. Cuz some days you feel like blueberry, other days you feel like strawberry.... Some days you feel like maple and then the other times you feel like a combination.

I believe Chicken & Waffles started in Harlem, New York. The jazz nightclubs were open late and didn't close till the early morning hours. The musicians getting off work wanted dinner even if it was early in the morning and the people just waking up wanted breakfast so that is how chicken & waffles got to be a combination....so the story goes.
Did they not have an American consultant or liasson or something? What they did to that beautiful French Toast was criminal.
They also need to try American Biscuits and white sausage gravy. They dont have American Biscuits in Europe. They have "scones" but they are different

Yes, life here in America is soooo expensive. After blowing our last paycheck on a new iphone for our 11 year old daughter (since she cracked her screen) it barely leaves us enough money to get a fifth flavor of Doritos to stock our kitchen pantry (our neighbor has all 17 flavors). All the while, we have been trying to save up for a new car because our current one is almost 3 years old and will be needing an oil change and new tires soon, so screw that, luckily the dealership said they could roll our old car payment into a new car payment that would only be 35% of our monthly take home. Living in a country with so many opportunities to make piss poor decisions is really tough.

I loved this video (I'm American) because I loved the people so much. All of you were so honest and funny and happy and cute and everything. You missed on the french toast. It needs to be slathered with melted butter and maple syrup like the pancakes. It can be delicious. I love you guys alot!! The chicken and waffles were a thing that was big in the 30's and 40's. When you mix the sweet maple syrup and the salty breading on the chicken it makes it delicious. Thanks guys for making my day fun.

I'm not sure of the specific origin, but I know this is considered "Soul Food", and may well have been cooked up in that time period, but I feel like it might be even older. The only thing I'm sure of is that it's bedtime and now I'm hungry..
