  • I've heard Adam Lambert a few times with Queen, and remember him from American Idol, but I think I forgot just how good of an artist he was. Still can't believe this performance of Who Wants To Live Forever is live. Hope you enjoy my reaction.

That clean studio quality live singing is one of the reasons both Brian and Roger have said that after performing with several other singers, they have found the right man for the job.
I think that he also fits with the flamboyant theatrical style that Queen were (and still are) famous for.
As for Adam not trying to be Freddie, when asked in an interview 'What's it like stepping into Freddie's shoes' he replied 'I bring my own shoes', thus demonstrating a humor similar to Freddie's, when pushed he then went on to explain he meant that both literally and figuratively

    • @DanFromHali

He definitely has a great sense of humor, always has. And I think he's a different kind of Flamboyant too, but then again he may very well be the image of what Freddie would have been like in todays landscape.

Glad to see you back!! I am a huge Queen fan. always have been. I saw Freddie in 1982 at Maple Leaf Gardens here in Toronto. Best show ever. Fast forward to 2014 and I saw Queen with Adam Lambert. It was amazing. He is not Freddie, but he admits he is not trying to be Freddie. The way I look at it, if they can bring great music to the younger generation that's what Freddie would have wanted. both shows were great in their own way. thanks for this one. its one of my favourites.

*PLEASE READ* I feel the need to put this here due to some comments. Yes by now I am aware that Adam offered this song in tribute to those effected in the Pulse Nightclub shooting that took place shortly prior to this show. Yes I get it's importance due to its relation with the LGBTQ+ community, and it's connection with Freddie Mercury, and thusly Queen. Not having this in my video is not - I REPEAT - IS NOT an omission. I simply searched the song, and picked the video at the top of the list. I am not going to go through every single song, to see which is the most viable. Usually, unless a specific video is linked by someone requesting said song, this is what I do. And suggesting that I should know better, is ridiculous.
So let's set something straight. I acknowledge and respect the tribute made by Adam Lambert, and regret that this was not shown in the video I watched. The video watched, does not include this, otherwise I would have. I can not stress enough, that this is not something I consciously edited out. Every video I react to, is linked in my description. Click the link, and you will watch the exact video that I react to here.
I count myself as an ally and advocate for the LGBTQ+ Community.

This is one of my favorite Queen songs. I'm going to London next June to see them live assuming we can travel by then. Adam is the best power ballad singer of his generation and then some. He's astonishing. Roger and Brian are thrilled to perform with him, and of course he can barely contain himself getting to sing with rock royalty.

    You‘re back! Yay!
I had the pleasure to see them live three times. I‘m to young to see Queen with Freddie, but went to the last three times they toured with Adam. I saw this live and I still have no words for how great and impressive this is.
And I also got into Queen through Highlander. A kind of magic was my first ever album.

    • @DanFromHali
      @DanFromHali  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I mean I definitely heard of them before I had seen Highlander. I think I was 17 when I first watched Highlander (Though I vaguely remember watching Highlander II on tv once upon a time, before that). My dad worked in a radio station, and I heard a lot of music through him, and a lot of their music showed up in various other movies I loved as a kid from Wayne's World to Mighty Ducks, but it wasn't until I watched Highlander, where Queen was such a vital part of the movie, whereas usually with other movies, they just become one of dozens of songs that they use (Wayne's World not withstanding). So it was really the first time I noticed them, and recognized them as a band, and not just for a song.
My first Album was actually "The Color and The Shape" From Foo Fighters, but that was actually more recent. My first ever cassette was Dookie (Green Day) and then just a year later Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (Smashing Pumpkins) and Bad Hair Day (Weird Al) were my first CDs

If you can edit in the context that this performance of this song was the day after the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando FL, US. It's what gives this performance the poignancy that makes it extra special.
Also QAL still tour together, Brian & Roger both say they'll never tour with anyone else but Adam. They're playing in UK & Europe in May & June 2022. X

    • @DanFromHali

While that's important, I'm not editing the video. The video I choose to react to, if not specified is either A) what is specifically requested for me to react to, or B) What is largely reacted to by others. So yeah. But I do appreciate the context, and its importance.

@@DanFromHali thank you for the reply.
However, in every other reaction video to this specific performance they include the dedication Adam makes at the start. It's very important to Adam & to our wider lgbtqai+ community, also to Brian and Roger. I hope you reconsider at least putting reference to it in the text vid description. That would be respectful to both Adam & the community and the loss of life this performance is commemorating.

I may get hate for this but I have found that I have been listening to Queen + Adam Lambert more than the original Queen. I was in Jr highschool when We Will Rock You came out and we used it at all our football and basketball games. Adam and Roger Taylor singing Under Pressure live is incredible! I have looked for videos of Freddie singing it live but he left the high notes to Roger. I love and miss Freddie and of course there are songs that are his that I miss so much. I watched the documentary The Show Must Go On and it helped with the transition. Adam is incredible in his solo career and then with Queen. His last album Velvet was amazing!

Cool to see this being reacted to. No words describe how spectacular the entire live show was. Every song was this good.
Random fact: I’m the girl in the mermaid wig you see at the end with one of my beautiful bffs who was shining in gold. It was worth standing at the stage for 6 and a half hours before they started, to be front row. We cried like babies during that performance. I’m gay, it hit home. It was the most amazing tribute.

No - he wrote it for Highlander and it was released in 1986. To quote Brian: “Dad died from cancer in 1991 [the same year as Freddie], he was only 66, really fit and didn’t drink. But he smoked 40 a day and that’s what killed him.”

@@bluebell3720 The quotes above is Brians comments concerning his depression after his father died and his marriage broke - and Freddie's death. The song was written in the car driving home from a screening of parts of "Highlander" - the movie that "queen" made the songs and soundtrack to. All four of them wrote songs for the movie. This one is inspired by the theme of being immortal and see the loved ones die through hundreds of years.

The reason this particular performance was so emotional for Adam Lambert is that he dedicated this performance to all the people who were murdered in the Pulse Night Club shooting in Orlando Florida (which happened the day before this concert) or anyone who has ever been the victim of senseless violence or bullying. If you start this video about 1 or 2 minutes earlier than you did you can hear his dedication to the victims. I'm not knocking your editing but every other person who has reacted to this video has left it in, because lets get real we all know the tragic circumstances of Freddy's death and it's correlation to the Pulse Night Club shooting and the greater LBGQT community.

I don't particularly like Adam's voice (personal choice) but Adam himself seems to be a really nice guy. I don't think he's a great rock singer and some Queen songs are impossible to extricate from Freddie himself. I just wish Brian and Roger would write some original material for him (apologies if they have done). However, I love this rendition - possibly because of the circumstances under which he sang it. His emotion is palpable I feel for him; the victims in Orlando and the wider LGBT community. It doesn't have the retrospective poignancy of Fred's 1986 Wembley performance ("we'll be together 'till we fuckin' die") but, in other ways, it's equal to - perhaps surpasses it. IDK - I just know it's by far my favourite AL performance.
