      I'd say in day trading I don't hold winners long enough, it's hard to tell if it's going to be a quick $500-1000 or a deep trend of $3000-5000; especially with choppy markets (a stock will be doing well, then the sp500 goes down and the run ends with a steep downturn.) It's hard to complain about $1000 in the morning when I used to drive Uber and make that in a month of full time work before expenses, but when a stock looks good and I'm suddenly down $500-3000 (not even from holding too long) something needs to be adjusted. Lots of irratic stock moves, I made a rule of quit trading if I'm up and stock moves are too irratic; now I've added quit trading if I'm up and it's 9:42 unless there is a stock racing up.

    Great video as usual. Shortly after the 10-minute mark, you noted something that I was actually focused on this morning. I noticed that I rarely had a single big loss ($500+). Instead, it was usually two or three in a row. I went to my trading plan and put in the following note: "if I lose more than $500 in one trade, or back-to-back losses of $300+, I take a 5-minute break from trading (breathe and center myself) and don't trade that specific stock again for at least 10-minutes."

    I fully agree with what you said in the video. I personally find very frustrating to be under the PDT rule and with limited capital. In this situation it is hard not to think about profit in order to increase your capital and get out of the PDT. Emotions and FOMO rule the day.

    • @ncv27
      @ncv27 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have been in the same boat. The most frustrating thing is that you have to make good on the limited number of trades under the PDT rule and that is a lot of pressure in cutting losses. I found it much easier now that I have moved to an off shore broker where I can trade normally with less than 25k. Much easier to follow your plan of taking profits and cutting losses quickly. All the best.

    I have this issue. My gains are usually good on the trades where I'm selling too early (10%-25%), but I'll miss out on another 30%+. I'll hold negative for extended period and play defense until I'm positive. I have a difficult time stretching out the pumps. But then I'll have issue where the next time on a gain I hold too long and take a much smaller profit. I'm starting to think middle 75% run is where to sell and leave bottom and top 25%. I have overall 72% success rate, but 80% last 50 trades. I'm a noob and have been trading around two months but just shy of doubling my account in that period.

It's time to regroup, refocus, set myself up with more quality picks, and sell the losers with a quickness and move on. I only have a small goal ( as I am a beginner trader) of raising my account by 5% a week consistently. I think it's very achievable......I hope.

    Hello Ross. I love your videos I am learning so much. You mention relative volume and also sorting by percent change. What I sometimes notice, is that some stocks will have a higher %chng than others, with a lower rvol and also vice versa. This makes it a little bit more difficult to choose. So lets say a stock has %chng of 10 with a 7 rvol and another has a %chng of 15 with a 5 rvol. I get analysis paralysis. Please help? Thanks.

    Ross, two points. First, you did NOT follow your own advice this week on MSGM. You bought 10,000 shares and took a small win. Why didn't you just take 5,000, book a for sure profit and let the rest ride up? I sold at $38 (but only 100 shares). I watched your video of you buying/selling MSGM and couldn't believe you took your whole position off the table for a dime. Listening to you on THAT video, YOU WERE GETTING EMOTIONAL. To paraphrase you, "I can't believe this stock is acting this way!" It doesn't get much more emotional than that. But, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS and I bet we would love having a coffee or a beer together.
    Next, during this entire video, I never hear you define QUALITY. I just started Day Trading this year, in January. I am only up about $1,000 but here are the stocks I have done: SHOP, AMD, AMZN, NVDA, W, MSGM and a couple more. Would you call these "quality' stocks? And how do you judge? EPS? Market Cap? Income? Ave Daily Vol?

How can newer traders leverage the statistical advantage of 2:1 (and higher) ratios if they don't yet have the skill to formulate a realistic profit target accurately/consistently?
