This is the first synth I bought. I love the visual feedback and the knobs. It's a very pretty device. I have to say I still think it sounds a bit too tinny / metallic, but it's definitely a lot of fun. I primarily ended up using this as a MIDI keyboard, but I plan on rediscovering the sound in the future.
It can definitely sound that way, but with the lowpass filter engaged and some tasteful phase cancellation and pitch modulation, it can sound pretty damn smooth
My first 'proper'synth ,I got a massive Casio midi built in but it was a electronic one with synth patches built in ,I could have done with a saw tuner and filter effect to plug it in at the time 1997
When I heard comparision of Minilogue XD vs Cobalt 8 on Starsky Carr channel, Minilogue with real analogue VCO have edge in sound, Cobalt 8 as VA sounds digital, thin and metallic but alone it is great sounding synth in its own right. With tweaking and programming a sound, digital synth could sound analogue and analogue synth could sound digital.
Having owned both versions of this synth, I cannot sing praises more. The Minilogue line is LEGEND. ICONIC. Korg really set the stage for what affordable analog can be.
Fantastic video my dude! The Minilogue is the synth that I built my channel around in the beginning - it just sounds so damn good and is shockingly versatile if you run it through some effects. Your video inspired me 😎
Nice review, very detailed and the playing is very nice, I especially liked the piano patch around 1:30.It's really a nice early synth for the price and I'm glad I have mine which I almost sold, the delay is actually very impressive when you use the pedal and the sequencer is amazing, I love it!
I bought mine new the year they came out, and I’m convinced that this synth will be considered a classic one day, if it isn’t already. I never bought the newer version as I saw no need to do so. This synth can make some of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard. And they’re built like a tank. About 2 years ago, mine fell off the second tier of my keyboard stand and literally bounced across my hardwood floor. Of course I was horrified that it happened, but it was no worse for wear. Everything worked with not a scratch on it. Thank you, God. lol… No, I’ll not be getting rid of mine.
Just got one used, here's to hoping I'll feel the same way! But from what I've been looking through before making this purchase as what will be my first synthesizer (and real foray into music), it really does seem that way.
I thought using the sequencer was not creating proper but I do my own riff and the sequencer riff on 2 loop s at the same time rec on my boss rc looper 505 .I need to clean ash of the synth only found out you carnt use wipes or chemical s there s a bit of ash in the synth shaped screen that I carnt shake off but its only a tiny bit .and it still works
Yes, that's like 4 any-shape, fully assignable LFOs in addition to the actual LFO. This feature is what made me take it super seriously, like as powerful as the Mininova but in its own way. You can make continuously transforming complex sounds.
I was looking at the XD..but this looks like it sounds better. I have plenty of nice pedals, so effects aren't an issue. It looks like even I can have some fun with this.
I was trying out the electribe sampler and decided to go for the minilogue which the shop assistant agreed with me but I happily Got the electribe 2 s 4 ys later
man i'm on the fence about what to buy... I've played around with a Korg Prologue my friend owns and I love the sound of it. Was surprised it didn't have a sequencer.... then he told me about the Minilogue and Monologue. this would be my first hardware synth besides a Volca Keys if that counts.... so i'm leaning towards Minilogue for polyphony and the inherent limits of a mono synth. But i've heard the Monologue sequencer is better and also offers "microtuning" that RDJ/Aphex Twin helped design? ... then i've also read the new Minilogue XD is upgraded with the 'microtuning' from the Monologue now and has a better filter plus features from the Prologue? ... haha i'm waiting for a deal anyway. can't afford to buy new !
The thing is, Minilogue was made from scratch by young guy who had a vision. Minilogue was not trying to replicate anyone or anything or "paying homage to classics". That's why it sounds too different for many and that's why a lot of people will not like it. Me personally i thing Minilogue it timeless. Never liked half-digital XD and Prologue, but OG is great.
Let's say you had entered this world via a circuit tracks (and your excellent guide) but weren't sure whether to go for a standalone synth like this or to spend time learning Ableton and using virtual synths (and they have too many other things going on to do both), where would you spend your time?
The only downfall of having owned one as well as the xd and monologue for close to when they where realised is that the pots on them go gummy after time , which isn't a deal breaker for me but I've had to change all mine on the og now and the monologue so far , and it's impossible to find a rotary encoder for the presets , banks , small detail as I like the Logue range heaps , and live in one of the warmer places in the world
You mean the knobs? You can clean them. I just bought a used one, the knobs were really sticky, just a few drops of isopropyl alcohol and a bunch of rubbbing and you're done.
Love my Minilogue! Only draw back is that I cannot get it to connect the the sound library. Anyone else has this problem? I try to connect to sound library with my Mac mini 2018
I've seen video where Minilogue XD was running a layer of recorded sequence and the guy played over it like in regular synth without loopers and other stuff. Do you know if it 's possible on regular Minilogue? Both synths are polyfonic so technicaly it can be done but i've never seen anyone playing live over sequense using regular version, only XD one.

embrace the tinny-ness! put it thru a verb pedal will help.

It’s a great lofi synth

Minilogue has such a sharp sound, and I love it. It has character.
The Minilogue will be a classic like the big 80s synths. I own some of them. A masterpiece from Tatsuya Takahashi.

I really dig my Minilogue. I got mine in the dark grey version which matches my Korg Delta synth.
It's great seeing how powerful a less expensive synth like this can be. Though I guess that's part of why it's so popular!

I believe the sequencer can be used as a modulation source as well for 4 lanes of modulation.

Great review! I got the Minilogue shortly after it came out and decided to keep it even after I got the Minilogue XD.
Thanks for this. Torn between the Minilogue and Monologue; I know they're different beasts but they're both near the top of the GAS queue..
@Wilderness Music Thanks for the direct comparison, that's very useful indeed

As an electronic music fan I love that.

still rocking my OG mini. thx for that little DNB intro lol
I think that original Minilogue sounds much better, then Xd older brother 🥰🔥
How much you paid for not new synth (want to buy it on eBay or Reverb)
I got it from my friend for around $350. Definitely worth it
Thanks for showing real synths versus DAWs.
THANKS TRISTAN

Oh I just spotted you did a DAW Vs DAWless video only a week ago. I need to probably check that out first:)
Another cool video, thanks! Wonder if you've had a mess with a Korg Wavestate? 🙂🎹👍

Oh no!

What are the lowest and highest pitches it can produce (A:0, E:1, E:2; C:8, Eb:4, D:6, etc.)
Where is it connected to? An amplifier or what? Does it have built in speakers?
I'm gonna have to get this one!!! Thanks for making a great demo and review here. How is the sequencer on it? Halfway decent?
Hi, tnks for the video. U know if you can connect the synth to the PC and aplied the effects from the daw while you are playing?
best Minilogue og

Hi Gabe. I’ve just gotten my Minilogue. What groovebox would you recommend for someone who is beginning this journey? Thanks for all that you do.😊
MC 101
How do you tune this bad boy?
You don't have to, it tunes itself on startup.
Shift and rec to tune
now we older folks know how the band rush started the song tom sawyer.
Probably the most famous filter sweep in history. :)
Does it have a good hammond b3 sound and grand piano sound
It's not a digital synth with those kinds of sounds in it, it only has analog sound generators so it can only do "synthy" sounds.
It kind sounds like FM Synthesis
yeah sounds really harsh for an analog synth
It's Bo Beats jam, dude! Not yours😉
Hopefully I've been able to bring my own perspective and musical taste to it!
very metallic sounding what’s the use of it being analog if it’s not warm terrible filters and shit envelopes sorry but I have one
Get a coloursound powerboost
“Getting a synth like this without having to sell your soul is a pretty good deal”
🤣🤣🤣🤣
