Thanks for this video! I have been using Canvas for a year, but didn't know how to do this, and the instructions on Canvas are completely incomprehensible.
Love using Studio in Canvas and this was a great tutorial. I find this super helpful when teaching online to switch it up from a regular quiz to a video quiz like this one. Always good to offer the material and assessment in different ways. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the positive feedback. I've taken to switching all of my lecture videos to embedded quizzes. It's time consuming but ultimately it's easier for the students to keep track of. They just click on a video, go through it, and then they're done with the video and the quiz. The drawback is that embedded quizzes are not editable without unposting the quiz, editing it, and then reposting the quiz anew (which is a mess for many reasons).
@@DrJBanta I gotta work on this. I haven't had time to transfer all of mine to embedded quizzes but my goal is to add a couple more each month. Time consuming indeed but totally worth it in the long run.
@@elizabethjohnson6611 Hi Elizabeth, check if a program called "Studio" shows up in the list instead. I think it's sometimes branded as "Studio" instead of "Arc." In fact, "Studio" is the newer name for it. Please do let me know if that works. Good luck!

Thank you for responding. I don't see Create Quiz (with the airplane icon) or Edit. So, I'll just attempt to complete the questions for the film and see if I can assign it and see the students results. They may not be able to complete the film in one session.

Dear Norina, Thank you. To your first question: yes, you can go back and edit. from the gallery view in Studio, you'll click on the three dots of the video whose quiz you want to edit. Then from the menu that appears choose "Quizzes" and then select the quiz you have already made. This will take you back into the quiz, where you can edit it. To your second question: you cannot export the video and quiz to Google Classroom, I'm afraid. Best, Josh

I just tried taking the quiz without adding the other questions and when I let the movie play to the end, I submitted and got a message from Canvas that there was an Error and they have notified their Engineers! The students cannot accrss the movie in the assignments, either! ??? I'm done! Thank you!
What is the platform That you upload ur videos to? Are there other other options of platforms where we can upload them for olur students to go and watch them?
I would recommend using Canvas Studio to create your videos, which uploads them automatically to Canvas. Alternatively, you can link to TH-cam videos instead.

Dear Patrick, I don't know. Sometimes Canvas is stubborn about showing the grades in a particular format. You can try setting the assignment to show the grade as a percentage, but I think that only shows *the instructor* the score as a percentage in *their* grade book. Alas, Canvas does not have, in my opinion, a great system for requesting "new features" like we are discussing here. I recommend trying some different settings and seeing how it shows up when you are in student view. Best regards, Josh
Dear Sara, yes, you can do this. When students open the quiz, there is a tab underneath it that says "captions." They select that tab, and then select "English" from the drop-down menu and then press "Request." The software automatically generates captions with what it claims is 85% accuracy. I hope this helps! -Josh
I think only the teacher can add the captioning, but you as the teacher would navigate to the page where the students go, and then follow the steps listed above. After that they will have captioning on that video.
Dear sir , i have a question but out of this context. I am running maxent for future climatic data but getting the error as "unexpected end of file". For present climatic data the software run smoothly. I want to know the reason and solution behind the error
Update: this will also work if you take a video from somewhere else and add it to your library using the "Add" button

In my canvas, it uses the term "studio" rather than arc, but it still works the same. Thanks for helping me understand this!

Can you add teacher audio to the questions you create? This is for students who need to hear the verbal questions vs. the written ones.
