I saw him in Budapest in 1988. The gig started two hours late because his plane arrived late. But the subsequent two hours of wonder made up for every minute of the previous two hours. Worth waiting for is an understatement of the century.
I am dreaming with this memory of yours!! What a fantastic circumstance you got in... amazing!! Two hours of waiting... I imagine how rowdy the situation was aahahh Unbelievable!!!
I saw jerry lee in tulsa in 1974. I was 17. It was almost just a dance. You could sit on the stage. It got so crazy a riot started. I actually had to help him get away. a woman had him in a lip lock and was saying, "I've always loved you jerry." He was very nice. I picked up his clear plastic coke cup as a souvenir. In the parking lot I took a drink from it--it was coke and bourbon mixed 50'/50! Ha! that's him, I love 'im. Nice guy!
Not a lot of things about being American make me proud but Jerry Lee Lewis is a person who I can stand up tall and say THAT is AMERICAN GREATNESS! LAMF
He literally can and has sung everything in the American Songbook and a few hymnals too. He is an American original, a treasure. Artistic genius lives on.
He played that in the key of G. That is the same key I try to play it. Can get most of the left, but not the right hand. How does he rake those keys with his thumbs. OM...cannot do that!
This is one of Jerry Lee's best songs ever, but this version doesn't compare to the original studio recording. You can tell the band doesn't really know the song very well since most of these guys were guest stars at this concert. But The Killer with an unrehearsed band is still miles better than any cookie-cutter shit in the top 40 today!
Thanks! at that same event there was a countrified lady standing at the edge of the stage just feet from him. (we were young rockers and we used to call them "snuff queens" which makes me cringe now). she had her arms crossed and scowled through the whole thing. finally jerry lee stopped and said to her, "I wanta' know what your problem is?!" she said, "I came to see the REAL jerry lee." (meaning country). he said, "baby, whattaaya' think this IS?" Then he played her a country song. ha.
@@monerz1 No my friend you need to watch it, or Google it. Jerry Lee Lewis is cousins to Micky Gillie and Jimmy Swaggert, they all grew up in ferriday louisiana. Where you got Ronnie Millsap and Don Williams I have no idea

He was killing it!!🎉
About as Old School as you can find. Still kickin', and probably still rockin', at almost 85 years old this year. May God bless you Jerry Lee.

Well, this is "Rockin' my life away", here. Good song.
It's been my favorite ever since I saw him at The Royal York Hotel in Toronto in the late '70s. I still have my 45rpm on vinyl.
