The bloke with the glasses on his head says that “there were better bands out there” and John Bonham wasn’t a “technical drummer” is ignorant and obviously doesn’t play drums.
I just said basically the same thing. Why would they even invite this guy to talk about something he clearly knows little about?? Glad someone else noticed this, too.
Led Zeppelin were not heavy metal. This notion was debunked decades ago. And they were far better than any other band both before and since including The Beatles.
It’s hard to compare the two. The Beatles were pop them psychedelic. Zeppelin was blues hard rock from beginning to end. For me Zeppelin will always be number one. I was once asked if I could only listen to three bands the rest of my like who would not be. Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Bob Dylan.
@@Leon-ym9qm it's all subjective but I can't stand the mainstream establishment types who always put The Beatles on a pedestal above everyone else. They were a phenomenon and great in their own right separate from their huge commercial success, but others were just as good who also have a relevant live legacy.
@@bradanderson6275 if Over The Hills And Far Away, The Rain Song, Fool In The Rain etc, are heavy metal then I must not understand what heavy metal is. Let's see Metallica or ACDC write songs like that.
Describing Jones as a 'solid' bass player kinda implies that he was just in the background doing nothing remarkable when in fact his bass parts were brilliant. Melodic, intricate, super tasteful and often mind blowing would better describe John Paul Jones bass playing. And then you have his arrangement and production skill . Jimmy Page was the unquestioned leader of the band but he was smart enough to not only accept input from Jones but encouraged it and didn't give a damn if the spotlight was on his band rather than himself occasionally
It's obvious to true heavy metal fans that Led Zeppelin is not a heavy metal band. A lot of their music, one might say is a blueprint for what heavy metal artists like Iron Maiden or Metallica would play later. Zep was not heavy metal. They were heavy rock.
@johnsrous1616 I agree . Zeppelin were incredibly versatile and could change their sound and style from one album to the next. It takes balls to change everything when your having success. I think Jimmy Page played what he wanted to hear and didn't pay attention to trends . But very little of what Zeppelin did sounds like metal to me .
Led Zeppelin was not a "heavy metal" band. Some of their songs could fit in that class of music that was pioneered by Black Sabbath, but overall their music is varied and includes quite a few styles and musical genres. Some of the comments made by those interviewed in this video are odd sometimes. The claim that there are many "time signatures" on "Babe I'm gonna leave you" is simply wrong - the song is based on a standard 4/4 time signature.
It was known within the band that Page was dabbling in Heroin, he had been for a while according to what I've read. In 1975 Page did an interview for Crawdaddy Magazine. The interviewer was none other than William S. Burrows. A well known author from the Beat period in America. He was also a known drug addict having even written a book about his characters addiction to the chemical that he was given to fight bugs. His character also talked to his typewriter in the book. A movie was made based on the book Directed by David Cronenberg. The movie is a trip. So anyway, back to the connection. Page had already experimented with H and there he was with the guy who from all of his years of use, knew where to get the best stuff.
I never got the opportunity to see led zeppelin in concert. I was a child in the 1970s. We’re the impression they were heavy metal. They’re were far from heavy metal. There music classic rock, folk. Etc. l apologise for the length of this comment. 😊❤❤❤❤
Some of these docs fall so short because of the people being interviewed....like, who are these people? They have very little name recognition and it's the same thing as me being interviewed talking about Led Zeppelin. It makes no sense and carries no weight. Also, these guys talk with such authority as if their opinion is of historical record or something. It isn't. So yeah, this doc isn't very good.
When the video reaches the point where Presence was discussed the feeling that was being put out was that it was a poor album and not up to the stratospheric levels of their earlier records. This was not the case. Presence, a great LP, was led by the mammoth "Achilles Last Stand" and its 10min duration but other terrific tracks were "For Your Life," and "Royal Orleans". Presence was far from the band members' favorite album but, to this fan, it was their 2nd best.
No Quarter Since I’ve Been Loving You Kashmir Stairway to Heaven Whole Lotta of Love The Crunge In the Evening Dazed and Confused Ramble On For Your Life
Zeppelin ended with Presence, to my mind, their best. Best of 7 exemplary studio albums. Not sure why this is titled as 73-80 when it starts with LZ1, but hey ho. Lucky enough to see them at Knebworth, '79.
Stairway was not ripped off. It's a descending minor progression with a "line cliche" that is frequently used throughout history. If Page is guilty of stealing it, so is Spirit. It's a uninformed accusation. Page did however definately steal the Black Mountain Side theme from Bert Jansch
These guys on this video are terrible.... So MANY mistakes talking about Led Zeppelin.... Disgrace.... Bonzo was a amazing drummer unbelievable the disrespect shown by these goofs.
@@francoamerican4632 Do you morons actually know what a cover band is, well this is it. "noun. : a band that plays songs previously recorded by other performers. This great band were blues rock, heavy rock, folk rock, prog rock, not rock n roll, not heavy metal. Bonham and page were awesome on presence, the band was super tight here. Page was struggling on in through the out door. JPJ was always great.
These young kids being interviewed talking about Led Zep? The guy with the glasses is way off , Heavy Metal WTF? Do they know that Zep weren’t marketed hardly? They did very Little TV ? The music press were very negative initially ? But Zeps first USA tour they started off being a support act in clubs , by the time they got to the end of the Tour they were headlining Stadiums on there own mainly. All from word of mouth & people listening to their albums or tracks on the Radio? Their music is so diverse it’s totally inclusive of most genres at the time .
I've been a Zep freak since late '74 and I've read tons of articles about what the next album would have been like if Bonzo hadn't died. But here's a brand new thought - what if Jones had passed away? Page or Plant it's quite obviously over, just like it was with Bonham.
There's too much folk and blues in led Zeppelin to call them heavy metal; they're good old rock n roll to be honest!!! Way too much blues guitar licks involved with classical style folk acoustic. They stole from everywhere and did so many covers so I don't see where the heavy metal fits in.
Hugh Fielder - Music Journalist? Led Zeppelin were NOT a Heavy Metal band in even 1 track/song. Heavy Rock in some somgs / tracls yes. Not much of a so called Music Journalist.
I always find it interesting when someone says that they don't get Zeppelin. No other band has covered such a wide range of different types of music. To say that you don't get Zeppelin is like saying that you don't get rock, blues, country, jazz, folk, etc. which makes me feel sorry for you because it means that you're missing out on some of the most enjoyable things in life.

Zeppelin was spectacular! They were not heavy metal as they had alot of acoustic material.
Lots of bluegrass inspired stuff... wonderful!
Forefront heavy and so many uniquely defined styles including their own👣
I dont think of them as metal but plenty of metal bands use acoustic guitars Black Sabbath, Mastodon, Opeth etc
There will never be another as great as Led Zeppelin! ❤❤❤💋
