Thank you Gavin. I just bought one of these MEC presses and the Hornady lock and load bushings. I’m gonna set it up the same way. Just getting into reloading now. I would like to get as accurate as possible on my hunting loads.
3:30 The Crescent wrench was in the correct direction and you flipped it over to the incorrect direction claiming to be turning in the correct direction.
As soon as Gander Mountain gets it in stock I'm a buyer, this will be my first press. I am an avid ultimate reloaded fan, follower also having purchased a RPR Enhanced IN 6.5 Creedmoor I have yet to shoot a round or pull a press handle. Have lots to do to prep for reloading/shooting long distance here on the farm I can shoot 1800 yards so I'm pretty excited about my own shooting/ reloading future. 1. build a reloading bench 2. Mec Marksman and press accessories 3. Dies Dies and more Dies.. 4.Shooting house and 3 Benches. 5. Weld up some steel targets... my wife n kids will be very busy. . spring in the catskills will be awesome.
Also, the press comes with this real real real tight die factory bushing on top and it's not that easy to take off as your video shows. Not sure if you have to heat that part with propane or other means to loosen the nut without damaging the powder coating once you start removing and replacing with Hornady's bushing kit. Also, you need to call the MEC to make sure this bushing will not alter the actual function of the press. Might had worked for you Gavin, but, I did not read anything on the manual that states it's safe to do this on my own press recently purchased.
I must make a correction to my comment today about the nut that secures the handle to the lower end of the ram support flat area. I must say that all you have to do is to align left or right depending on your needs and screw the nut from the bottom and not the top of the handle, this will definitely allow the ram to stop as you raise the handle and not contact any part of the handle or the nut that is wrongfully listed on instruction on paper. Again, no need to do any extra modification to the nut just screw it from the bottom and done job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone was wondering what Gavin was talking about in his video for calibrating presses so that you can use your dies with the Hornady LNL bushings so that you don't have to adjust the dies once they are set up when moving from one press to another......here is the link to his video. th-cam.com/video/oXaB_I4nrhY/w-d-xo.html
Gavin please buy a Forster Co-Ax press. No shell holders, & no bushings to buy. Primers drop into a sealed jar, so no mess there. Also, you'll roll very accurate loads.
Blue LockTite on Bushing. Why in the world do you turn your Channel Lock Pliers and Adjustable Wrenches Backwards When You Use Them. Tends to Cam Them Open and give you less gripping force. Not trying to be ugly, just looking back at 60 years of being an auto mechanic, and having graduated from William R. Moore, College of Automotive.
Been using a Forster Coaxial for ever after I got tired of using Precision bench set up methods (I'm anal retentive for accuracy reloading) with single stage presses and Wilsons in-lines.The runnout difference I got between using Coaxial with custom made made dies was negligible to not afford a quicker reloading process. NOW, I see even a slicker way with Hornady's lug lock system I really like and may buy a new set up to suit my needs. Great vid Gavin.
Thanks Matthew- any reason you wouldn't want to go with the Hornady Lock-N-Load bushing conversion? (has worked more smoothly in my experience compared with the LEE)
I looked on MEC's website and don't see that 3rd tray you have that you attached to where the dies go. I also looked on Midway and didn't see it. Where did you get it? Thank you.
I've never used the Hornady lock n load bushings. Do you use all the time? In your opinion, is there any precision lost in using this system? Sure looks "convenient".
That's a good question- I use the bushing system wherever possible because I like the flexibility it gives me, and it actually increases precision because it enhances case-to-die alignment. More on that in new video coming- be sure you've sub'd !
The MEC is a more substantial press made to a higher quality standard, and also has a patented floating shellholder design. The LEE offers on-press priming and costs less.
I prefer priming on the press. But if you want to prime on this press your limited to the Lee or Hornady die style priming systems in which you have set each primer into the die. Its slow, but it does work well.
Users and potential buyers of this press please read my comment and call the mfg Co for the nut that tightens the handle at the bottom. This nut does not allow a clearance and will damage the flat part of your press when the ram is lowered to it's final rest position and will keep hitting that flat part. Not sure if you need to replace the nut with a thinner size or what, but the ram will not come to it's zero position when lowered and this is a poor manufacturing defect where the buyer should not be making any alterations to any part of this press. Any advice on this Mr Tobe???????????? Even if the nut's flat part if parallel to the flat base will not clear and not allow the ram to come to it's zero position. Can you please contact the Co. since you are sponsored by them?
Gavin do you know of any Reloading Data for the 6.5 Creedmoor with the Hornady 140 grain ELD Match bullet. I'm having a hard time finding any loading data for this particular round. Thanks

You test a lot of different reloading press, tell me which single stage press is your go to..

Liberty4Ever He used the channel locks backwards as well.
I also noticed he used it backwards.
Get a life and quit nitpicking
@@mavicboss5897 Umm... Just who is nitpicking, Mavic?
Very nice overview. Many thx for this great video. Happy reloading from Germany.

Jack, that's AWESOME!!! You are going to have sooooo much fun!
I love your bench, i wish you would make a video on your bench setup, gear and rails...DIY. Thx for your great videos, very informative.
It's in the plans!!!
Tolle Ladepresse samt Zubehör. Meine nächste Anschaffung.

You had less than 1 thousandths run out before the Lock and Load bushings. How does your concentricity measure after the conversion?
I don’t remember what clutch tool I used but it fit perfect as a wrench. It was definitely old as it was made of metal.

Gavin, this or the co-ax. Which one would you pick?
I have to make the same decision. Which one did you pik up?
I was thinking the same thing. But I decided and bought the MEC because you have room for drop in powder or bulge buster kit.
Anyone know the measurement of the bushing die head that Gavin said he didn't have an adjustable wrench for and used channellocks?

I'm looking into it!
You had the wrench going in the right direction.
Ha! You are right.
Put a drop of medium strength thread locker on the die bushing and you'll never have a problem with it backing out.
Good tip!
gavintoobe : Nice press. Doesn't Hornady make a spanner wrench for the Loc-kn-load bushings?.
Loctite blue?
that's a better idea. I like it.
Eric Dee A welder is a lot easier to access than a machine shop.
Great video and great information
Any suggestions to upgrade the spent primer catch tray.
A lot of debris misses the tray making a mess.
How coaxial are the Hornaday lock and load bushings.
your Forester press needed to be replaced this soon? What was wrong with it please?

I am getting one of these
Gavin, love the MEC Marksman reviews! Any plans to test MEC's new powder measure and powder trickler?
Let me see what I can do!
Add LED lights, looking good. As usual good videos.
Good idea!
Hey Gavin, love your vids. Ever come up with anything to improve primer catching on this press? That's my only complaint for the Marksman.

Thanks, yes, they are great!
What would are your thoughts of using the LEE quick change set on this press??
Great video as always thanks in advance

Hi Gavin
I think he wants to know if the Lee quick change bushings will fit. I would also like to know thanks
thanks Gavin!! great vid as always!
Thanks Dude!
thanks mate. Will you be creating a Patreon or Full30 channel for funding?
Did you ever make a video on your bench top and modular system?
It's on my list- stay tuned!
do you happen to have a promo code for this channel to midsouth shooters supply?
I looked on MEC's website and don't see that 3rd tray you have that you attached to where the dies go. I also looked on Midway and didn't see it. Where did you get it? Thank you.
Let me ask MEC about this!
Hi, Any word from MEC yet? Thank you.
aren't they built onto the riser base?
The tray that he showed is separate from the riser base.

Been thinking of buying this press how does it compare to a Lee classic?
The MEC is a more substantial press made to a higher quality standard, and also has a patented floating shellholder design. The LEE offers on-press priming and costs less.
I want a solid single stage press. Was just about to order the Hornady LnL Iron press but this thing looks great too. Which one would you suggest?
They are both really solid. Do you need to prime on-press?
gavintoobe I'm a newbie but assuming on press is easier. Yes?
I prefer priming on the press. But if you want to prime on this press your limited to the Lee or Hornady die style priming systems in which you have set each primer into the die. Its slow, but it does work well.
can i use RCBS RAM PRIMING UNITwith this one??
This is my formal request for a 300 blackout reloading series.
YES! I already have the brass, bullets, upper, dies. Stay tuned!!!!
Excellent. Cant wait. I have a SBR lower that should be getting approved any day now and I will be starting down the 300 blackout rabbit hole.
anyone having issue taking off the factory dies bushing? I can't take it off. it is super tigh

When he flips the wrench, he flips it from correct to incorrect direction. SMH.
