- After pouring 150 hours into the newest Zelda, I can confidently say that exploration is ADDICTING in Tears of the Kingdom. In this video, I talk about what makes exploration so rewarding and why I haven't been able to stop investigating this newest version of Hyrule.
Let me know what you think of exploration in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in the comments down below!

Re-exploring this world was like exploring your house again that you’re already familiar with but the furniture is completely different and there is a new basement and floor upstairs
So satisfying to hear someone talk insightfully about a masterpiece =)
Thanks for sharing.
I have been playing for at least 80 hours and still haven’t done the temples (aside for the wind one for obvious reasons).
I am prone to say that I like Breath of the Wild more, but TOTK has been as addictive as Elden Ring for me, and that’s incredible.
Good video, as always.
Thanks! I still need to play Elden Ring myself, I know everyone says it's amazing.
You've convinced me to go back to this game. I quit during the tutorial twice, as I found it very tedious having to build things, and didn't even make it to the open work to explore anything.
Personally I didn't think the tutorial was very good in Tears of the Kingdom, so I hope you enjoy the game when you finally get past that!
Totk upset me when they took away the pretty Christmas with the Ritos once you’ve beaten the temple.
Im only like 40 hours in and havent even started messing with Zonai its confusing to get started lol. I did really enjoy finding all the hieroglyphics and seeing the cutscenes. I was wanting a traditional Zelda so seeing human Ganon just being a menace was nice to see
I'm doing a second playthrough with knowledge of mechanics I didn't learn until late game. It's so satisfying. Moreover, I'm reliving the magic all over again.
After around 180 hours I'm still burnt-out from my first playthrough but I'm really interested in how a 2nd playthrough will feel with all my knowledge. Glad you're enjoying!
I agree it’s a lot better than BotW but I think it does still have some of the problems of BotW. Totk seems like the complete version of BotW in a way. I think in the future that BotW and totk will be inseparable when talking about either game. I do still hope Zelda will return to tradition in more ways in the future.
I definitely agree with you that Tears of the Kingdom still has some of Breath of the Wild's problems. And despite having a great time with TotK, I also would like to see Zelda return to tradition more in the future.
I'm planning on replaying BOTW just for nostalgia sake. It's still a really good game in my opinion...
After i finally get all the Shrines, Max Batteries and beat the game... I really want to go back in but this time actually usemy arsenal of Zonai parts to rekt face.
Time to roll in with a death machine haha
11:24 okay, THAT is incredibly clever.
I love how useful that trick can be!
I have about 75 hours (I took a break to prevent burnout) and have still hardly done anything.. I've only done like 10 side quests and only did the first dungeon
Sounds like you're getting your money's worth!
It's interesting how a lot of people say this game is better than BOTW (The highest praised Zelda game since like OOT) yet TOTK is one of the most polarizing in the franchise
Because it's a glorified dlc
I finished my run in 145 hours with all batteries, full stamina and I think 3/4th of the amount of hearts. My percentage was 54,1 if I'm correct and I'm okay with that. I have other things to do...
DAMN only 54.1% after all that
Yea I ignored most of the depths since I didn't care much for niche reference armor with only 3 defense..
And I never mapped out the area above the Gerudo... I cut some corners here and there, the game is enormous.
@@AardappelpurreeI mean most Armour in the game only has 3 defence at the start and you can upgrade them like any other Armour, also it's not like the Armour is the only thing down there, there's an entirely to the depths unique boss (frox), but also yiga bases which showcase unique stuff you can build with zonai parts, but I get your point, it feels repitive to constantly beat monster camps to farm zonaite, and they could've added more unique buildings etc, other than a bunch of mines.
Hope you are doing well for your inevitable twilight princess ranking
It happened
Way better than Botw
100% agree
Bro this shit is just a dlc for botw
It’s the same base overworld and basic mechanics but entirely different story, triple map size, new dungeons, shrines, quests, massive new mechanics, and bosses. If that’s DLC that’s some very high quality dlc and as someone with 300 hours on a single play through, absolutely worth the money
@@scandalouspanda7489 Not really. The Overworld has changed a lot, the new mechanics change how you interact, there are dozens of new quests, there are over a hundred caves and wells, 2 new maps, and while the water temple is bad, the other temples are great and a massive improvement from botw
@ Totk dungeons are better than WW and most of MM. Overworld drastically different with new phenomenon and the way you traverse makes things way different. The caves are awesome and have dozens of unique designs. Depths can be a bit Barron but exploring them, finding bosses, chests, and yiga highlights are a lot of fun
@ Great bay temple was irritating to navigate and not fun, opening dungeon was good but kinda meh, considering there’s only 4. The other 2 are good but the time limit makes the changing mechanics stressful as it takes a long time to go back and fix. Great actual dungeons but mm mechanic of time just brought it down. Ww dungeons are so boring. Temple of Gods, Ganondorf tower and forsaken fortress were bad. Opening 2 were mid, and last two were good but not enough to make up for the rest of mediocrity. Totk however had top notch fire and lightning, fun Hyrule castle and spirit temple, while the Dungeons of water and wind were not great the lead ups were fun, particularly wind. Overall they just are better than ww and mm, which puts them in the middle ranking of 3D Zelda which is by no means bad as you will have to concede a majority are bad then
@ Maybe you just not living in the reality. WW has forgettable, Majora had good idea but in context of game mechanics make it unpleasant for 2 dungeons, where the other 2 aren’t great. Totk has great dungeons even if there are some mediocre ones
As a longtime fan of Zelda that has played every 3D Zelda game... this game kinda blows. And no, it doesn't blow my mind, it just kinda sucks. For instance, they never fixed the broken weapon issue in this game. Sure, you can recreate types of weapons more easily with exploration, but that doesn't entice me to use them still. I still never want to use my powerful weapons on any of the many basic enemies in this game. Usually, the Zelda team takes criticism to heart when making their next game, so the fact that they didn't fix this issue is weirdly out of character. The new building mechanic is poorly implemented in my opinion. I can take minutes for me to build something, just for it not to go very far. Furthermore, you'll need to upgrade the battery for it to do anything, which is a long, grindy process in the depths. I never had to grind in BotW to get what I wanted for the most part. It's just an arbitrary problem that they game created, so that you can invest time with the not very great mechanic, just like how fuse arbitrarily created the problem of all weapons rusting, so now you are forced to fuse. Then, there are many times throughout the game where they just awkwardly give you Zonai devices, basically railroading you to make a specific type of vehicle. There are many times when I see stuff like a steering stick, a glider, some fans, and a battery. Like, it's so obvious what the game expects of me. It lacks the sort of subtlety we saw in BotW's design, and it's so weird to see them take a step back in this sort of case. I know that sounds like a nitpick, but it happens so often when the game expects me to transport a stone while doing a quest. Giving out korok seed as rewards for exploration is by far the lamest thing. That was such an underwhelming reward in BotW because there were 900 of them. Now, TotK just perpetuates the exact same issue, with korok locations even appearing in the same place as they did in BotW! It's so lazy that it makes me wonder how this game took longer to come out than BotW! And then, they use the EXACT SAME MAP as before! Yes, they changed it, but barely to the point where most of the overworld feels the exact same! It's weird because they didn't have this issue in A Link Between Worlds, where they made a sequel and changed the map slightly! So, what gives? Then, the enemy variety is literally almost the exact same as BotW! For a majority of both games, you will be fighting bokos, moblins, and lizards! Sure, some bokos might have a leader, some might be in the air, and some might be on a stone talus, but those are more rare and it still doesn't fix the problem! BotW was a combat heavy game, so when they made a sequel, you would think that they would fill the environment with more than the 3 same types we have been seeing for a long while! Then, this game has the boldness to try and teach you the mechanics in almost the exact same fashion as in BotW even though this game is a direct sequel to a game many have already played. It just kinda comes off as tone deaf and a complete waste of the player's time. With all of that being the same, we also have the same music, the same armor, the same type of story that doesn't stray from the status quo, and the same shrines.
In the end, although many feel positively about this game right now, I feel like that's just the bliss of having a new Zelda game to play. In time, I feel like many will come to realize how rather than continuing to be a true evolution of 3D Zelda like its predecessor, that it would rather hide comfortably within in its status quo. It's sincerely disappointing.
You definitely make some great points and I'm actually working on another video specifically highlighting some of the issues that Tears of the Kingdom did not fix from Breath of the Wild, a few of which you mention. That said, I don't necessarily agree that weapon degradation is an issue in this game. I only found it to be frustrating in BotW because once your weapon broke that was it. But now, not only do you have the ability to rebuy unique, powerful items that have broken (like the Fierce Deity Sword) but it's also very easy to recreate powerful weapons because you'll always be carrying monster parts and materials. Personally, knowing that allowed me to use my powerful weapons freely, because I didn't have the same conservative mindset I did in BotW.
Overall, I enjoyed TotK, especially compared to BotW which I wasn't crazy about, but I totally see why you and others might not enjoy this game. I appreciate your write-up though, definitely got me thinking! And for the record, I hope they return to the traditional 3D Zelda formula in the next game because at the end of the day I think the open world design is inherently flawed.
Strangely I am thr complete opposite of the OP: I hate how I had to grind up crickets and Frogs to get anywhere in a full day, having to waste alot of time climbing over stuff that is plain or R A I N slicked, having to run around the Kingdom for the 13 hearts required for thr Master Sword and my biggest one.
Just farming the Royal Claymore so i could have a chance against anything tougher theb a cuckoo late game.
@@MrDrBoi Don’t get me wrong, I don’t HATE the game. I just think it has so many elements dragging it down, making a disappointing sequel and my least favorite 3D Zelda game.
Mad because bad.
@@AzariahWolf Yeah… I am a little mad that the game is bad, but I will get over it. It’s a fine game, just not the masterpiece to dote over.
