Chris hackney being reinhard is the best surprise. I loved his work for Dimitri from fire emblem and he fits reinhard so well! I’m also so happy about ludmila’s casting but overall the casting choices are just perfect!
As an anime fan who usually thinks the Japanese VA is best, I really like the English VA for most of the characters. I think part of what makes the Japanese VA not that appealing is that too many of the female characters have a "cutesy" voice. I think that someone like Ludmila would do better with a sultry voice, and Lucy with a tomboyish type of voice.
That's exactly what i thought! i thought the ENG dub was way better because they all at least sound different, and their voices seem to match the characters more.

That's definitely a matter of preference haha I do understand that feeling of high pitches being unpleasant to the ear, too! I personally enjoy Scarlett's and Beatrice's JP voices most, because they are more medium pitch. But I can also see why youthful, cutesy voices are appealing to others.
There's some really good casting for the dub, some of the voices I prefer way more than their Japanese counterparts. I'm definitely going with the dub!
For the boys I prefer Japanese but for the girls I prefer English. Most of the girls voices are way too high pitched in Japanese. I think I'll play in English. I can finally play next month. Rune Factory 4 I prefer Japanese more
So split for me. I like the girls English voices but with the guys I lean Japanese. Martin and Cecil's are especially my favorite in Japanese. I might just go with Japanese because Cecil is on my radar, and then switch to English on another playthrough because I have eyes on Lucy and Reinhard.
Yes it’s too good to pass up Yoshitsugu Matsuoka & Ayumu Murase. Whatta great lineup, I even enjoy the female cast like MC having the same VA as Touka from Tokyo ghoul, Priscilla being Rem’s VA. So cool.
Started playing and tried both, I think Eng dub, surprisingly enough, has more tonal variety and carries performances a bit better overall. Lucy in particular.
If only in the future they'd allow us to choose in settings specifically "English or Japanese" per character. It sounds a bit immersion breaking but it'd be fun to try nonetheless.
That's such a fun idea! And I don't even think it's too farfetched. In Japanese visual novels you can already often mute specific characters individually, for example 😝

Both English and japanese voices are reallll good!..now I'm torn on which language to play it on. Played rune factory 3 in English, loved the voice acting so much (I can still hear Daria's RAINBOW). Though I prefer Japanese for rune factory 4. For rune factory 5....hmmmm not sure for now.
But the fact that it is so hard to decide really goes to show how well all of the voice actors are doing, hehe! I also can barely decide between ENG or JP for RF5 now!
As someone who will marry all characters, i was actually very surprised with the English VA! So much diversity, especially with the casting! The Japanese one had great voices too but I feel like the girls had the same direction; cute. Which is fine, but that's all of them, even in the commentary that's all the girls would say they were going for.
I think Ludmillia has the better English voice whereas Cecil sounds much better in Japanese. The rest are pretty much equal to me. Both of Fuuka's VAs did a great job! Unfortunately I think Priscilla sounds way too young in both dubs, and I'm not sure about Lucy's.
Theyre great as always. Im so glad that even with some improvements here and there, xseed stayed consistent with the art style ever since the first Rune Factory ❤️

What struck me by surprise was Cecils japanese va because that voice really is unique (even tho he was never an option for me because I was happy when they stopped putting 90% shotas in the game lmao) I think I will play on Japanese because I will be happy when I hear Cecils voice xD Edit: I wouldve wished for more of an ara-ara-voice for our succubus girl :c

Don't get me wrong - I think all of the English voice actors are very talented - but for me, Cecil's voice actors' vibes are very different from one another. Cecil's Japanese voice sounded very boyish, soft and almost angelic and innocent to me. The English version just sounds more firm and mature - and that's also fine. But I really get why you'd want to go back to the JP voices for Cecil (hello~ fellow fangirl here 🤣💗) PS: I also think a more lady-like Japanese voice could've fit Ludmila perfectly. That's why, her English voice seems very fitting to me, too 😍
Totally agree with what you guys are saying about Cecil. I wanna go for him or for Martin, but I hope I like Cecil's English voice more when I play the game. His Japanese voice is so good, but I'd have to sacrifice hearing it in English as well as other characters so I'm not sure.

Np, always ask away without hesitation :) I actually had to create a new Nintendo Eshop Account and set the region to North America. From then, I had to purchase a US Nintendo gift card online and use that digital code to charge my account. So if you wanna buy a Japanese game version, there is unfortunately no other way than that, since foreign credit cards don't work on eshop. There are plenty of Nintendo giftcard sellers online, but choose one carefully, so you won't get scammed! As far as I know, RF5 is gonna come with dual audio - so you won't need to purchase the Japanese version to enjoy the Japanese voice acting. And thank you for supporting me❣

As for framerate issues, it's not so much an issue I'm "sensitive" to it (I play PC games that frequently have issues, especially for ports); rather, it seems the devs aren't making a sufficient effort to produce a "quality" game (~12 patches?), and consequently I'm rewarding them with my money. The Switch definitely has technical limitations, and ports make sacrifices to it (like resolution or texture quality, which most don't mind), but framerate suggests the machine just can't play the game and / or the devs didn't do enough to tailor their efforts. At any rate, I'll almost certainly buy the game (hopefully I'll finish Atelier Sophie 2 by then), and I look forward to future RF5 content from you. Best of luck!

I'm an English speaker and I play the game with English vocals so that may or may not influence my choices somewhat... Priscilla - Japanese - so cute. both fit perfectly but out of all characters, Priscilla is the best fit for the 'cutesy high pitched anime voice' that's become a bit of a thing. Lucy - English - her Japanese voice is good, but maybe a little too high pitched, doesn't really suit her in my opinion. Fuuka - English (sorry the growls and whines are just so cute, I miss them too much) Scarlet - English - dunno why I prefer it, maybe it's a personality thing. Beatrice - Both - I like both equally and the Japanese vocals don't lose the posh edge in her tone, perfectly done. Ludmilla - Japanese - she sounds more obviously sultry rather than posh-like English version, both are good, but I think the Japanese fits better. What with her literally being a succubus that's madly into you. Martin - Japanese - dangggg that deep voice tho, was not expecting that but I'm pleasantly surprised. The English is nice don't get me wrong but dangggg, the deep voice ruined me. Cecil - both - that Japanese vocal makes him sound even younger than he looks tho, more than the english. Murakumo - both - both are good, I have no more words to say. Ryker - English - ehhhhh, I ain't got much reason other than I feel the English one fits better personality wise. Reinhard - English - sorry that posh English voice got me, nothing else will suit him now. Lucas - both - I haven't seen too much of Lucas yet, but both voices are pretty good.

For Cecil voice actor in English all I hear is Goh from Pokémon and I'm not sure it's right but for his Japanese all I can hear is Izuku from Boku no hero Academia. I'm sorry that's just how my brain works. I liked the English for rune factory 3 and 4. I think it will that a while to get used to the voice actors but I still go English all the way. Except I don't know why I don't like Priscilla voice actor for both she sound so childish. I thought she would sound shy and gentle. Love that the voice actors of my two favorite Martin and Murakumo sounds great!
I don’t have a preference for language. It just kind of depends which one I prefer more when I hear it. 🤷♀️ sometimes the dub does it better than the original and sometimes it falls completely flat.
That's so true!! Honestly, I also believe that in the end, it just comes down on that voice actor's talent and if they were casted for a fitting role. It's not so much about language for me either :)
The women´s voices in English sound a lot more normal and varied, but a bit low, while the Japanese men´s voices are so **H O T** but annoyingly high pitched on the girls, what to do, what to do......
In FR 1 and 2, I didn't really like any of the bachelorettes much, in RF 3, there were only a couple bachelorettes I sort of liked, and RF 4 had several I liked. However, I think this is the first RF where I actually like all of the bachelorettes and their designs. And then having Japanese VA's like Inori Minase, on top of that? The hype is real.

I feel that they add those "kid" type characters for the younger audience that plays. That way they have one to 'relate' to. But I agree, some def seem like children.
Guys definitely sound better in JP VA, but I think I like Ryker's Eng VA better. For the girls I think Beatrice, Ludmila, and Lucy sound better in English
Some of them have better voices in English, others in Japanese, thats to be expected. But what's really shocking, is that a couple of them don't really sound very good in either language.

Some fighting games do this but they're the only ones I've seen with the option. Probably easier because the character barks don't need much context.
I like that idea I love a lot of the male characters ja voices and the female I mostly like the en version

I actually had to create a new Nintendo Eshop Account and set the region to North America.
From then, I had to purchase a US Nintendo gift card online and use that digital code to charge my account.
So if you wanna buy a Japanese game version, there is unfortunately no other way than that, since foreign credit cards don't work on eshop.
There are plenty of Nintendo giftcard sellers online, but choose one carefully, so you won't get scammed!
As far as I know, RF5 is gonna come with dual audio - so you won't need to purchase the Japanese version to enjoy the Japanese voice acting.

Does the Japanese or Asian version have English text at all? In other words, how are you able to show game footage featuring English? As an aside, I'm really interested in the game, but the performance issues look serious, in that they'd significantly detract from game play. At any rate, best of luck gaining subscribers--they'd be well-served!

As for framerate issues, it's not so much an issue I'm "sensitive" to it (I play PC games that frequently have issues, especially for ports); rather, it seems the devs aren't making a sufficient effort to produce a "quality" game (~12 patches?), and consequently I'm rewarding them with my money. The Switch definitely has technical limitations, and ports make sacrifices to it (like resolution or texture quality, which most don't mind), but framerate suggests the machine just can't play the game and / or the devs didn't do enough to tailor their efforts. At any rate, I'll almost certainly buy the game (hopefully I'll finish Atelier Sophie 2 by then), and I look forward to future RF5 content from you. Best of luck!
Yeah that's indeed a ton of patches. I'm afraid that the game either had a rushed launch or the devs were trying to save money by skipping the bugtesting part 😅

I'm an English speaker and I play the game with English vocals so that may or may not influence my choices somewhat...
Priscilla - Japanese - so cute. both fit perfectly but out of all characters, Priscilla is the best fit for the 'cutesy high pitched anime voice' that's become a bit of a thing.
Lucy - English - her Japanese voice is good, but maybe a little too high pitched, doesn't really suit her in my opinion.
Fuuka - English (sorry the growls and whines are just so cute, I miss them too much)
Scarlet - English - dunno why I prefer it, maybe it's a personality thing.
Beatrice - Both - I like both equally and the Japanese vocals don't lose the posh edge in her tone, perfectly done.
Ludmilla - Japanese - she sounds more obviously sultry rather than posh-like English version, both are good, but I think the Japanese fits better. What with her literally being a succubus that's madly into you.
Martin - Japanese - dangggg that deep voice tho, was not expecting that but I'm pleasantly surprised. The English is nice don't get me wrong but dangggg, the deep voice ruined me.
Cecil - both - that Japanese vocal makes him sound even younger than he looks tho, more than the english.
Murakumo - both - both are good, I have no more words to say.
Ryker - English - ehhhhh, I ain't got much reason other than I feel the English one fits better personality wise.
Reinhard - English - sorry that posh English voice got me, nothing else will suit him now.
Lucas - both - I haven't seen too much of Lucas yet, but both voices are pretty good.
It would be helpful if there where a list of the voice actors and actresses.

For Cecil voice actor in English all I hear is Goh from Pokémon and I'm not sure it's right but for his Japanese all I can hear is Izuku from Boku no hero Academia. I'm sorry that's just how my brain works.
I liked the English for rune factory 3 and 4. I think it will that a while to get used to the voice actors but I still go English all the way. Except I don't know why I don't like Priscilla voice actor for both she sound so childish. I thought she would sound shy and gentle. Love that the voice actors of my two favorite Martin and Murakumo sounds great!

I really loved the English voices in Rune Factory 4, but WOW the Japanese ones are AMAZING in RF5. Will most likely pick japanese this time.

I don’t have a preference for language. It just kind of depends which one I prefer more when I hear it. 🤷♀️ sometimes the dub does it better than the original and sometimes it falls completely flat.
That's so true!! Honestly, I also believe that in the end, it just comes down on that voice actor's talent and if they were casted for a fitting role. It's not so much about language for me either :)

The women´s voices in English sound a lot more normal and varied, but a bit low, while the Japanese men´s voices are so **H O T** but annoyingly high pitched on the girls, what to do, what to do......
In FR 1 and 2, I didn't really like any of the bachelorettes much, in RF 3, there were only a couple bachelorettes I sort of liked, and RF 4 had several I liked. However, I think this is the first RF where I actually like all of the bachelorettes and their designs. And then having Japanese VA's like Inori Minase, on top of that? The hype is real.
I'm gonna go for Murakumo but I like the Sub better 😂

I usually almost always pick the Japanese voice when playing JRPGs in general but I LOVE the English voice acting here too. I kinda prefer Ludmila and Cecil's English voices so far, especially Ludmila's!

I just kinda discovered rune factory 5 and... Definitely planning to get the game just for how anazing it looks and its genera being Definitely my thing but... two of the bacheloretts and cecil feel like children to me...
I feel that they add those "kid" type characters for the younger audience that plays. That way they have one to 'relate' to. But I agree, some def seem like children.

Guys definitely sound better in JP VA, but I think I like Ryker's Eng VA better. For the girls I think Beatrice, Ludmila, and Lucy sound better in English

Some of them have better voices in English, others in Japanese, thats to be expected. But what's really shocking, is that a couple of them don't really sound very good in either language.
Fuuka is less annoying in Japanese because I don't know what she is saying what-so-ever.
