The combination of the obvious pain, the realization of the limbs uselessness and the resulting frustrated self amputation, and how when it's off he tosses it aside and keeps moving
Some also team up to molt safely. They'll all migrate to a single place off the coast of Australia not to mate or feed or lay eggs, but simply to shed their old shells. They're vulnerable while the soft shell underneath hardens, so predators often come to get them while they're nice and soft. Some get snatched, but the majority make it out, they take turns molting and defending the other molting crabs. Another crab fact is that hermit crabs also do shell swaps when they outgrow one. They come together around shells that might be too big for them and wait for a bigger crab to take it so they can trade for his old one. I think hermit crabs are one of the few animals to kinda benefit from oceans being polluted with trash, because they're not too choosy about the shells they scavenge and will gladly take a metal can or something. Although it's still not great because there's a lot who end up taking weaker shells like old plastic items that can easily be bend or broken through.
@@redeye4516 if i remember correctly, crabs test potential "shells" before using it, so they didnt use anything that can easily deformate, soft or cant keep wet

if the video had continued a little longer, we would have seen 'Kraz' going to the LZ waiting for Pequod to arrive shortly... and then a great flight to his new Mother Base (where would he fight with some african children... it's a long story :D)
Never forget the sacrifices of our crustacean comrades.
I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. We're all diamonds
the way it pulls out it's limb is kinda bad ass for some reason
yea and the fact that he will regenerate it in like a few months and probably try that again makes me feel hope
