Fantastic interview! I'm a fan of these two great figures and Ivan too. I found Dave in 1980 in a small record store in Canterbury, England, an imported JVC record, "Mountain Dance"... very expensive but after listening to 30 seconds, I bought it straight away and since then I have followed his fantastic career and even bought some of his first works... Lee, it was in '77 and I had the pleasure of talking to him a little at Blue Note a few years ago. Ivan Lins/Vitor Martins, is also an old love...1977. Genius composer and an excellent human being. I had the pleasure of producing a Tour in Portugal with him, Portuguese, Brazilian and African musicians and we have been friends since the early 90s and I hope for many years!!! Greetings with gratitude to everyone...
With Grusin and Ritenour leading the way, GRP Records were the undisputed titans of contemporary jazz music during the mid-'80s and '90s, despite its much misaligned and unfair criticism. Chick Corea, Dave Valentin, Kevin Eubanks, Dave Samuels, the Yellowjackets, and many others dominated the musical charts and raised the profile of instrumental music that exists until this very day. The brilliantly seductive, "Harlequin" was a crown jewel in their amazing catalog.
thanksss to this guys for their brazilian album ,waitin the NEXT WITH MORE BOSSA NOVAS and a GRP QUALITY SOUND, and waitin them for concert at blue note milano! ciao from italy.
Oh yes, this is good news and very exciting and I can hardly wait for this release. I know it will be an extraordinary musical listening experience, with these two amazing musicians together with the Brazilian friends. I have all the albums with Lee and Dave and they have given me a tremendous amount of musical well-being over the years, God bless them! 🙏🤩🎸🎹
So good to see two masters - these guys shaped many, many musical careers. Their recordings still are fantastic to listen to. Thank you for this interview!!
I love Lee’s album ON THE LINE …. All live in studio recording .. like how Dave Grusin’s MOUNTAIN DANCE album was recorded … All live .. no over-dubbed - studio recording
If you'd like to purchase their new album "BRASIL" you can find it on the media of your choice here: leeritenour.lnk.to/brasilJI
Lee and Dave and the GRP recordings are the best. Love the Jazziz mags.

Spot on, may have never heard Ivan or Djavan if not for Harlequin and listening to these two guys adamantly.
