    I test drove one of these 2 months ago just to see if it was any good, I ended up buying it! I was very surprised with the power delivery for a 1.6L. We took it to France on holiday and ended up doing 1,500 miles in 2 weeks on just 2 1/4 tanks of fuel !! We we're getting 75+ miles to the gallon, which if I'm not mistaken is better than a Prius?!? it was the most comfortable and relaxing 1,500 miles I've ever done, a joy to drive, I actually enjoy driving again after 22 years on the road. I'd recommend it to any one!! 😄

    Bob it was your review that persuaded me to give the Honda Civic a test drive. I picked up the SR model yesterday. thank you for planting the idea of a Civic in my head. The car is outstanding.

    I've had my Civic 1.6 diesel new since January 2014, now on 56k miles and still tight as a drum. No problems at all, front tyres replaced at 46k miles, still on original rears (still legal, but will need changing in the next 1k miles or so)! Averaged overall about 65 mpg (proper brim to brim calculation), the best I've had is 77 calculated (the trip has shown over 100 mpg at times). Great underrated car, much better than the boring Golfs you see everywhere.

      @@raitamasensei748 no because its slower and less torquey (comparing 1.6 to 1.6),not relevant to driving 'fun' the Golf is boring ,bland and way way less reliable.

    Great review of a brilliant little car that seems to be overlooked.
    We have the 1.8 petrol down under in NZ and we love it, superb quality, finish and just a really good drive. I love the design, refreshingly different and stands out.
    This week we take deliver of the 2015 gen 3 Jazz RS, Honda all the way!!

    Great review. I do own a civic 2.2 I-DTEC, and before that I had the 8th generation. The 9th generation is a big step forward, and I admit that the back is a bit ugly but the car is just brilliant. Very reliable and economical, plus it has lots of power. Not many reviews see that in Honda, but your review is onest and well done. Thanks.

    I have this colour 1.6 i-DTEC in EX spec and find it a much better car than my 8th Generation 2.2 i-CTDI ES. Best car I have ever owned but still it feels like it doesn't have the appreciation out there that it deserves. I like my Civics so much that the Tourer is top of my list of my next car in 2016.

    I'm a recent convert to your channel and reviews Bob and have to say I'm really enjoying watching everything I've seen so far.
    Your enthusiasm and honesty is infectious and really entertaining but the flip side is that you're not helping me decide which car I should go for next. I was thinking I had narrowed the short list down to either a Passat 2.0 TDI or an Insignia 2.0 CDTI and had no inkling to look at the Civic, BMW 520d, Skoda Octavia or Mazda 6 but now feel I have to investigate those for myself.
    So no thanks for making the decision easy but much respect for broadening my horizons and removing the blinkers a bit.
    Well done sir.

    Hi Bob, delighted you actually got around to testing this car. As the owner of a pre 2008 2.2iCTDI Accord, I'm very interested in this review, as ultimately I would consider down sizing to this car, given it's 300Nm is only 40Nm short of what I currently drive. The road tax would be certainly more attractive than the €994 per year I currently pay. But for me, that really sums up the only negative of owning the Honda Diesel, as the Accord has been everything you mentioned in your review, comfortable, reliable, well built, granted more relaxed than spirited. I test drove the 2.2iDtec 2012 Civic when it first came out, and only two issues stood out for me: the extremely light - if a tad vague steering and the hindered rear view with the spoiler. Also a lot of the reviews and articles I have read have made comment of the torsion beam rear axle unsettling the ride. I would be grateful for your feedback on these three items

    • @BobFlavinVideo
      @BobFlavinVideo  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I wouldn't have a problem with the suspension, I often find that some UK reviews seem to focus on the negatives and/or mention something just to seem critical.
      The Civic is a fine car, the 1.6d is right up there in quality with anything German. There is some things that aren't as refined or stylish as the VW Golf but I'd be prepared to overlook that because of the quality, practicality and just to be in something a little out of the ordinary.
      Price, tax band, kit and overall usefulness makes the Civic an easy choice.

    • @dermotguilfoyle6419
      @dermotguilfoyle6419 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply Bob. I know I'm biased as a current Honda owner, but as you mentioned, I find it annoying how most UK reviewers seem to take the view "if it's not a Golf, so it's useless". I would actually prefer to drive something a bit different. The first "Next Gear" I watched was the Citroen DS5 review, and it was refreshing to see a review that didn't damn it for the outset. Keep up the good work, and stick with the uninhibited approach. There are too many stereo-typically car reviewers who bash out the same old stereotypes!

    • @itsallrobbish
      @itsallrobbish 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BobFlavinVideo well said, there is a bias in the UK for German marques, that’s for sure. All these years later, I’m contemplating buying a 2017 version of this and there don’t seem to be any downsides to this car, and that’s coming from a guy that said he’d never get a diesel. I’m phoning up a dealer here in Scotland tomorrow, to hopefully get a good deal on a low mileage example, that’s up for grabs, here. My Honda Accord 2.0se is on 143000 miles, but is still super tight, the best car I’ve ever owned and still gets 43 mpg, but with this Civic on £0 tax per year and 70mpg, it’s almost gonna pay for itself!

    TBH, the recovery guy were saying not to buy anything french, a Mercedes or a BMW. Go buy a Yaris, Toyota or anything Japanese because he barely gets to recover them. So me being a Peugeot fan since 98, I'm going to try this 13 plate civic dtec. Concerned about fuel economy but I drove a Renault to London and cost me £50 in petrol compared to the Peugeot 208 that was half that and cheap to get to Cheshire circa £40 and still had fuel left. So we'll see how well it does. Various vehicle comparison sites are bringing up the right vehicles so the grades they give does differ. Sites don't list the Dtec and they don't list the Peugeot 208 13 plate diesel.

    Whats the suspension like Bob, Honda have been known for much harder feel as the japanese roads don't have potholes. Also Honda tended to have safe roadholding (e.g. Opel astra not Ford Focus) so were a bit A-B cars.I note the 2.2D is only ONE tax band above!- that sounds fun! Would have to torque of that tractor

    • @BobFlavinVideo
      @BobFlavinVideo  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honda suspension is now developed in the UK and Ireland, there is much more focus on this part of the world so there's no problem there.
      Road holding is much improved, this of the Golf 7 here and the 2.2D is good but tops out rather quickly and don't sound as good as the Germans.
      The 1.6d is nicer (and quieter) but still has good torque

      Bob Flavin
      Hi Bob, Thank you for the review. I bought the 1.6dtec which I collected on 1st of March 2014. So far - drive is fine, good performance and good feel to driving. However, don't be fooled by the advertised mpg figures - they are at least 20% lower than the advertised figures, even if you drive sensibly like not exeeding 70 on the motorway. Also, beware of going for the T upgrade if you are getting the SE-Plus.and If you get the T-upgrade, (What I got is calle SE plus-T) you actually lose the subwoofer, and DAB radio just to get a satnav. Even though the Honda UK website implies that the T upgrade satnav is what you find in more expensive models like the SR and the Ex, what you really get in the T upgrade is not the same satnav - It is not HDD, it does not have DAB, and it cannot connect to the subwoofer, and hence you lose it when you go for the T upgrade. Shame on you Honda for misleading information! Also, in the SE plus model you have a speak button on the steering wheel which you lose when going for the T upgrade. So you actually lose a lot by paying extra to get a cheap satnav. I went for it, and repent on it now! I could have used my £99 Tomtom which has got camerai alterts and everything else on it! Please be warned.

    Hi Bob, bit of advice. I'm thinking about getting a new Honda Civic soon. Ive got a Seat Leon 1.6 diesel, which is suppose to get around 80mpg. More like 50 odd really!! Should I go diesel or petrol? Its seems all TH-cam car channels say, if you do mainly town driving go petrol, and long journeys diesel. I do about 90% of driving in town. Thanks

    • @BobFlavinVideo
      @BobFlavinVideo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      LancashireLad666 It's more about daily distance than it is about speed. The only reason diesel has problems is the DPF, if it doesn't reach temperature it can't clear out and so blocks and then gets expensive.
      If you commute through town that should be fine but if you are driving 5 miles for the shopping it'll be a problem.
      They way I think of it is, 15-20k miles per year is petrol and 25+k per year possible diesel. Anything over 30k per year should think diesel.
      It's a tough one because in my experience petrol and diesel cars do about the same mpg in towns once their horsepower is about the same.
      Driving style has the biggest effect on mpg, remember, get up to speed quickly and decelerate early but 50mpg with mostly town driving is very good well done.
      Let me know your average millage and I'll do the maths.

  • @dayanpalihawadana4210
    @dayanpalihawadana4210 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I got my 1.6dtec SE Plus - T early March this year. Overall, it is good. But beware that when you add the T grade, you lose the subwoofer, the Talk button on the steering wheel, and DAB radio. Because the sat unit you get is not the same as what they have as standard on higher spec models, and it does not support those features you lose. Honda website is misleading here and nobody at the dealership will tell you thin voluntarily. I complained to Honda UK several times but they did not even respond to to my complaints. Also my T grade sat goes on and off on certain streets and the dealership says that there is no problem! Also, unlike in other Japanese cars I have bought before, I have to really bang in the doors to properly close them - the dealership accepted that there is a problem with the boot lid lock anyway. Also, the parking sensors are crazy - they beep non-stop even when a vehicle is over 5 metres from you, and this is not what I have expereienced in my other car which is a Merc. I have now permanently switched it off! Also, do not be fooled by those mpg figures they claim - I druve very craefully and smoothly but I get no more than 56/57 mpg urban and no more than 66 on motorways. Driving is easy and smooth though. Check theses things before you buy andf good luck!

  • @shotten99
    @shotten99 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Humour me with this question: I had an 8th generation Civic sedan which I finally gave up on last summer after 5 years. The reason why? It was simply impossible to see the bonnet from the driver's seat and parking was f-ing impossible - not to mention they didn't offer front parking sensors. Was that a problem with this model?

    • @BobFlavinVideo
      @BobFlavinVideo  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well front parking sensors are an option in Ireland so they should be there. TBH there are very few 5 door hatch cars that you can see the end of the bonnet.
      The civic has height adjustment on the seats so you can get very high in the seat which should allow you to see more of the bonnet.
