Thanks for the video. Had to change out the reverse light housings on the trunk and this was perfect. You are correct, where you used glue there are little clips that flew off when I removed. I found them and reused. Thanks again, this was helpful!

I have a 2020 Mazda 6 and I wanted to change the taillights and chrome trim to the 2017 because it points up is that possible or it won’t fit my 2020 if I buy the part?

Yes there are clips, made it harder to get the trim out cause they are attached to the lights.

i run into the same problem when i changed a broken inner light. The metal clips got so rusty that when put back they dont hold the shiny plastic bit in place. i just used some bathroom silicone and that worked just fine. Mission accomplished i guess !!!

I would’ve preferred if it didn’t have that trim piece at all, like the Mazda3. It’s a cheap piece on an otherwise fairly well made car.

@@416diy Yes indeed, the look would be much cleaner .i ve seen some ppl wrap that piece ,but usually the vinyl color does not much the bodie s and in my opinion that makes it so much worse.

The trunk lid is a very thoughtless design on an otherwise very well thought out car. Why are the inner lights held in with VHB tape and not another bolt?
Also, the outer chrome pieces are held on by clips, part numbers D352-64-345 and D352-64-345B. Need two of each. Too many clips.

I came here because I have a trunk water leak on my 2014 Mazda 6. One of the two brake light housings leaks and has water in it that you can see inside the housing. SO I suspect that water is getting in around one of the two brake lights and the large holes they plug in the trunk lid. The seals look very dubious to me. I will have to take it apart like you did and I will be applying copious amounts of silicone any place I can when I re assemble. Ive had water seal issues in other Mazdas, in other places. The headlight and tail light housings are junk

Same, my driver side trunk-mounted lens with the backup light gets condensation in it sometimes. I'm going to take it off in the spring and try to seal up wherever it's leaking from.
You're right for sure about the taillights being junk quality. Haven't had any issues with the headlights yet, fingers crossed.

@416diy I finished the repair a d that was the problem. Those backup light pieces of the taillights that are attached to the trunk lid are a joke. There is only one 10mm nut that fastens them. The water seal is an adhesive foam. So if the trunk gets slammed shit here and there or the car rattles over bumps over the years....its easy to see how that crappy foam seal could fail. Really crappy design
