As I have Eclectus parrots they don't get them but my budgie and cockatiel have one. I have a nail cleaning brush and scrub it with that, it takes a layer off. Then I put it outside in the hot australia sun for a day or in a warm oven, as this kills any bacteria on the purches. I use the same techniques on some of our gum branches from our yeard which make great for purches with bark for foraging, alas I work at home and am well aware not everyone has this much time on their hands, or a father in-law with an abundance of natural fauna as his garden 😊 I'm a little lucky my birds have a pick of all the best branches, flowers, leaves and native grasses. And yes I take in wildlife for rehabilitation because I'm bless with such amazing gardens and spaces.
As an Aussie I really you appreciate you talking in rescues. Thank you and bless you for realising the advantage you have and using them to help our gorgeous wildlife ❤️😊

Yes, so happy you talked about this! I have a green cheek conure, so I have natural perch that has curves in it, and a rope perch that twists and one perch for his nails plus they are different widths, hope this right, he likes bouncing up and down on the rope perch plus he uses all his perches to maneuver around his cage, this will help so many people/actually their bird, thanx btw I'm going to order one of those perches from you, the one that split in two♥️
I would love to have some with the wood on it as my cockatiel LOVES to peel it off! Thank you for the great tips again! I love being able to learn from you even when it's stuff I thought I already knew, it just makes taking care of my bird so much easier!
Your makeup and hair look fantastic ! Very natural and feminine look . I like all your different “ looks”, but this one is a favorite. I make my own manzanita branches and play trees too. Excellent branches .
I dont know if the huge playstand perches in your house (like the one behind you) are custom or if you bought them, but a video (or TH-cam short) showing a closeup of how they are constructed (the base etc) would be great to see, and super beneficial for me over here in Australia. There isn't really any companies that I know of that make anything quite to the scale of yours. So I'm considering making my own, and yours being the best example of a good natural looking stand that I've seen, would be great to draw inspiration from.
There’s a place on the Gold Coast that do pretty amazing looking bird gyms. They are not in the tree shape like Jamie and Dave’s trees, but they do look to be pretty large. They are called Birds Paradise if you are interested to look (I’m not affiliated with them or anything, they’ve just come up on my Insta feed from time to time).
I think this is also a great way to stress the importance of 'trick' training that yall do! For example, my Amazon just learned the "Big Eagle" behavior where he spreads his wings. Since he doesn't care for people messing with his wings this makes a great way for me to inspect his wings without stress. A "wave" would be a great way to inspect a bird's feet that maybe doesn't care for them to be handled!
Our African grey loves her rope perches But I have to keep a close eye, and make sure I clean them regularly and replace them regularly. But I’m going to buy one of yours also!
I got my budgie one of those calcium perches shaped like a shell that you showed a couple months ago (which he’s JUST now using and liking 😂) I use a q-tip for the hard to reach spots where he poops and gently whip it with a water and vinegar solution.
The calcium perches I've used with my budgies- I've had some success cleaning them with a very soft kid's toothbrush! It takes time to make sure it's clean, but it hasn't abrased *too* much. So glad to watch this video through and note that I seem to have done the right thing with my two! The only rope perch they have is on the *outside* of the cage, so I can very easily check on it and remove it if needed. One of my budgies was born with weakness in one foot, so I've got a variety of perch widths and textures in their environment so he can settle where is comfortable for him.
My parrotlet and I love your videos! He will sit and watch y'all's videos all day lol. Could y'all do a video on what cages are best for different sizes/breeds of parrots? We just got a baby IRN, and I want to ensure we get her the best cage as she grows.
You can clean the calcium perches or similar rock perches with a gerni, high pressure water washers etc. Soak with vinegar spray first to disinfect and then blast away the gross stuff
For my budgie I am using for now 2 perfect size for her and one big, chanche food every day 3 times and add litte bit so she does not trow every were and replace her water every day ones. have 2 toys but order 4 more toys, spending 4 hours in my room and fly around. I do not have to worry about my window in my house she never crash, she crash when she was 38 days old and lern what window is in one day take her some hours (she was young and did not fly that fast and did not damage her self). My 5 month old baby eating calsium since 2 month old and eat it every week ones and just litte bit, I am adding multi vitamins in her water every week. She start to take shower with me after 4 month old, struggle to get in to shower (water not direct contact just more like mist hit her and does not harm her) when she goes in to shower she does not want to leave untill she get whole body wet for 10mins of shower. have tried to give egg but strugle to eat it when she was like 3 month old will wait untill she get 6 month old. My baby was eating rope and was not natrual on the toy so I saw that in first days I get her so I cut her rope and just using metal and soft wood as a toy. there are manny place for her to grip and she like to play a loot and love to be on my shoulder and bite my silver necklace and slick my neck and bite of my beard. was cleaning cage every week 5 times but I do not have time for that so I end up to clean it every week 2 times and clean bottom every 3th day to not let my toom smell bad. only issue I found on my budgie is her sleep issue, she can stay on my PC screen and put her head in to her back and sleep but wake up and get scared when I play my games or talk in phone and she have allways be a pussycat and can be scared for no reason idk why, trust me but scared from everything. got her as 35 days old and after she passed 4 month old I found out that she is too agresive and bite me when I get close when her eyes goes off/on and resting and not sleep, when she blink I leave her alone for rest and when she pulls her leg on her chest I leave her too. My room temprature in winter is cold like 22C degrise and 28C temprature in summer. found out that she does not put her head back any more like before and just close her eyes and sleep for some reason I found her more cute when she turn her head back
@@angelabay-jespersen6205 It’s a veterinary disinfectant that is super safe for birds. We use it in Australia, and it is also used in the UK. I think there is an equivalent in the USA, but I’m not sure what it is called.
I noticed on my java wood & manzanita .. they're so smooth that my birds "slip" . So I took a dremel and added some "traction" .. I have battled analyzing proper grip around the width (size) of perch matters . I do inspect my birds feet. Also when buying perches or making them. The angle matters to be more 90 degree set if too much a slope I see my birds dont even use the excess part of the wood they choose to stay on more horizontal perching level
I too think it’s a great idea to add traction with your dremel. As to analysing proper grip around the width/size of perches, she said to look to nature to see what birds use, and birds of any size, will use anything that they can grip, including fence wire and phone lines that nature doesn’t provide. I believe that a variety of different sized branches, just like nature provides, are better than just a standard size.
Since I first got my Parakeet ,He flew out of cage and he was walking on floor and I caught him and put him back in cage but now he never walks on the floor and I didn't know he was exploring
Topic for another video to cover please: ..... Do you have air purifiers? If so what type/technology is harmful to birds ..? .. I am concerned w ion or germ zapping technology in some manufacturer brands. If u plse can cover rhis toic I have been researching this and I am confused. Any advice on helping a bird get used to sandy/calcium perches? My boy is freaked out by new textures/experiences so it's always been a bit of a struggle to get him used to things ^^;
I would treat it the same way I execute toy-training where you encourage contact and then extend the contact with both duration of time and picking at the object! Great comment!
Also with sand perches, the sand is often insoluble grit that they cannot digest. It can build up in their system and cause pain. And if it’s sanded all the way around, it can also cause pain to the pads of their feet. I feel like the risks outweigh the benefits and just steer clear of sand and cement perches. With natural wood perches with the bark, platform perches, sisal rope perches, and a single calcium perch, my budgies’ nails only need to be trimmed once or twice a year, so I don’t think I need any nail trimming perches.
Please can you do video . on sisel rope concerns .. bc some manufacturers dont use jus flax to oil the rope. I have been frustrated with figuring out what sisal rope is safe doe birds vs not safe.
Hi I just got a pair on albino conure and they were tamed by the previous owner, however, they seemed to be away from me when i keep them open not in their cage. I purchased the cage which they were in earlier from the earlier owner. So, what should i do to keep them happy and the male on tries to bite if i try to hold it to get it back inside the cage female one follows but doesn't bite. So how to get rid of this situation ?
In Oz they refer to them regularly as galahs but in the US we call them rose breasted cockatoos more commonly so I tend to jump between the two names on the channel. 😊
Hi. I plan on getting a Hahns Macaw after I no longer have the blessing of having my mom (She'll be 99 March 16th). What Aviary and smaller cage would you get if you were getting one? What does the spacing size between bars need to be for that bird? Thank you for your time and help.
I recently purchased two male budgies and am struggling to get them to step up or even come out of the cage. I try several times a day and they are still very skittish. Its been two weeks.
