- A very special guest on this week’s video, F1 legend Riccardo Patrese, who raced in Formula One from 1977 to 1993. For 19 years, he held the Record for the most Grand Prix starts yet strangely is often overlooked when the very greatest drivers of the sport’s history are discussed.

Excelente nota. Saludos desde Argentina. Riccardo Patrese es una leyenda viviente de la Fórmula Uno. Todo el mundo sabe que Patrese fue uno de los pilotos más veloces de su época. Algunas correcciones a la impecable memoria de Patrese. En su debut en la Fórmula Uno en el Gran Premio de Monaco de 1977, Patrese obtuvo el puesto 15 en las pruebas de clasificación y no el 19. Clasificó a menos de medio segundo de distancia de su compañero de equipo, el australiano Alan Jones que largó la carrera en el puesto 11. La segunda corrección es en su victoria en el Gran Premio de San Marino de 1990. Gerhard Berger llegó segundo pero no conducía una Ferrari. Ese año Berger ya estaba en McLaren. Por último la última carrera de Patrese en Williams no fue su victoria en el Gran Premio de Japón de 1992. Su última carrera para Williams fue la carrera siguiente, el Gran Premio de Australia en el circuito de Adelaide. Patrese iba ganando la carrera hasta que un problema en la bomba de gasolina lo obligó a abandonar la competencia. Patrese se fue del equipo Williams liderando una competencia.

Williams white #6 forever. Riccardo is as much a gentleman as he was a fast race car driver. His performances in 1989, finishing 3rd in the championship to only behind Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna are some of my favourtie moments.

Nice intervivew, thank for posting it. I have always cheered for Riccardo also because at the time I lived 20 km away from him and I have his autograph. Patrese could have had even better results. If he hadn't made some mistakes and in the choices of the teams and in some GPs and some unfortunate episodes, maybe he would have become world champion. Not going to Brabham already in 1979 waiting for a call from Ferrari that never came, the accusation of being responsible for Peterson's death, the mistake in Imola in 1983, that relegated him to second driver (in 1982 he had obtained the same results as Piquet ) and Williams who in 1992 chose Mansell as top driver (in 1991 he had obtained the same results as Mansell) heavily influenced his career.

@@YutakaYamagishi Thank you for your answer. I followed F1 closely as a child and then as a teenager, between 1978 and 1990. Then less and less until 2010. My favorite was Gilles because he was able to make things that the other drivers didn't dare to do. Riccardo was also one of my favorites. But the best drivers are the complete ones who, in addition to being fast, know how to bring the car to the finish line with the best possible result. In this sense the best were Lauda, Senna and Schumacher. But also drivers like Fangio, Jim Clark or Jackie Stewart who, for reasons of age, I have not seen racing, were champions.

パトレーゼさんは1977年に行われたF1で日本に来て走っていた方でもあります。鈴鹿初開催の時に唯一来場された77年開催（富士）時のドライバーです。鈴鹿では幾多のF1レースが開催されましたがパトレーゼ選手はほとんどポイントゲットされているのです。ウィリアムズのアクティブサスペンション開発に関与したドライバーでもあります。ナイジェルマンセルが目立つなか、しっかりと走り続けるパトレーゼさんが好きでした。

90年代前半に一番F-1にハマった。
高校生の頃、チケット高過ぎて買えないからコカコーラの売り子バイトでメインストレートど真ん中辺りの観客席でレースが観れた事は一生の宝物。
若干記憶は前後するけど、パトレーゼ、マンセル、セナ、ベルガー、プロスト、ピケ、アレジ、アルボレート、JJレート、Jハーバート、モレノ、ブーツェン等々魅了的なドライバーが多かった。
