Mark nine armour could be the Grey Knight's Aegis pattern. Only the Grey Knights are supposed to be "classified" hence why it's not publicly acknowledged as the ninth in the series.

mk9 could be alot of things. But I think the simplest explination could actualy be that mk9 is what "improvised" (as opposed to "production) mk5 was (mixes of mk2, 3, 4, 5, and 6), but for armour that includes mk 7 & 8. Its really a GW imposed rabbit hole that could be anything until they bloody tell us.

    • @AshleyBlackwater
      @AshleyBlackwater 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Not actually true. The minotaurs also have alot of it due to thier good supply and being the lords or terra lapdogs. Its also not quite standard in the watch, its just what GW modelled our vet kit with. If you look at Kill Team Cassius, they much better how how varied DW armour can actually be. And in the old Deathwatch RPG books multiple marks of armour where included as possible wargear.
Some watch fortresses are well supplied and probably do have access to full forts of mk8, others are in a bad state and really have to scavenge for it.

Id say the problem with the scaling in 40k is purely the human factions fault, such as the imperial guardsmen, and perhaps also the tau. They were just way to big compared to everything else like space marines, orks, eldar, drukhari and more, which were propperly scaled with each other. Now we have the issue of forces like the orks and adeptus custodes being way to small compared to the say, primaris and human factions. Even with the new ork kits they're still too small.

Conspiracy Theory! My guess for the reason it goes from Mk.8 to Mk.10 is so GW had a way to back track on Primaris space marines if it didnt sell as good as older space marines or got too much hate. They could just pivot the spotlight to a still new space marine range but it wouldn't be Primaris, and then just introduce some lore reason as to why Primaris took a back seat on the battlefields.

VI, the covers of numerous early heresy novels from a range of legions including Death Guard feature Mk. VI, and the Iron Warriors, Salamanders etc may not have liked it during pre-heresy trials but during the heresy itself everyone was rather less choosy - it’s never stated anywhere that a legion didn’t use certain marks or exclusively used any marks. the black books are all presented from a biased, in universe pro-imperial perspective, and should be read as such and their accuracy should not be taken for granted

    (Not really) Hot take:
    - Horus Heresy 2 should have heavily focused on the MK5, youknow, the HERESY ARMOUR rather than the MK6 which was mostly used after the heresy.
    - In 40k, the Marines need to go back to more armour diversity like they used to have in the first born era. To do so simply phase out the Intercessor kits the same way they are phasing out the "Primaris" keyword to settle on a new "normal" where the base marine kit contain a medlay of every armours from 2 to 10.
    (One Mk2, One Mk3, One Mk4, One Mk5, One Mk6, Two Mk7, One Mk8, Two Mk10).
If you can "upgrade" a first born into a primaris, you should be able to "upgrade" the old, revered and iconic armours of the chapter too.
The iconic look of a marine will always be the MK7.

    • @chromasus9983
      @chromasus9983 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The thing about the MkV is that it's not a widespread armour. As mentioned in the video, it is a retroactive definition for many makeshift armour marks made in a hurry. No legion would have used it as their primary plate, as it's not a "true" armour mark in itself.
Also, Primaris marines are the new normal. That's just how it is. They won't go back to containing pre-Primaris models. You are of course able to kitbash these customised variants yourself if you so desire.

On the subject of Mk1 Thunder armour:
    - Of the pre-Primaris suits, this design was the last one to be made. GW needed something that looked crude enough to be seen as a prototype and went with a test figure. The figure was used as an exercise in sculpting chainmail onto marines iirc.
    - There is another sculpt. It has a small ridge in lieu of a topknot and it carries a power axe instead of a bolter.
Honestly, I'd love to see GW explore the Unification Wars in more detail, maybe as a skirmish game or as kits meant for painting projects.

could what the black Templar sword brethren wear be mk 9? it looks different then the mk 10 and with a different helmet, high collar and legs with a flair on the knee joint

MKX Tacticool armor, inside every suit is a mall ninja waiting to purge the enemies of the Imperium.

I think it's funny that the reason for MK IX armor not existing, is the same reason for Windows 9 not existing. GW just wanted the primaris to be so uber-super-new-high-tech-duper-cool that they just skipped the number 9, because 10 is way better and the armor is obviously such a big advancement.

The fact that Mk 1 didn’t have powered legs really bugs me. Practically ALL of your power comes from your “butt”. You can’t create any significant impact without a solid base. You can’t skip leg day!

Just a small thought but what if Mk9 armor get treated much like Mk5, the "Pre-rift Imperial armor", known for its ability to be highly compatible with all prior STC/ Imperial standard power armor parts and custom parts that used those base parts?

I have a theory that Mk 9 was supposed to be powered by the warp. But that was quickly Excommunicated due to "Unforseen Circumstances,"

That Mk VII Ultramarine model doesn't look anywhere near squat enough. It took me a minute to realize that it was a mix of the new Mk VI armor with Mk VII bits where appropriate! Anybody know how they got the knees? It looks too neat to have just been a scribed, but I could be wrong

I thought the death watch uses Mk VIII armour almost exclusively ( never mind the boring primaris kits)
Most DW non primaris are in Mk VIII.

Always read the X in MkX as X, not 10, since it's this whole modular system instead of what you would commonly consider an armour mark.

I wish different armor marks had different rules in Horus Heresy. For example mk.III having more toughness or mk.VI giving stealth bonus

I realy feel the Space Marines lost so much cool visual history with the Primaris.
Chapters having centuries old suits if different marks with their own history. Some made from multiple differnt marks.
    Squads could look really interesting.
Primiaris feel to uniform and shiney. Rather undermining the whol feeling the Imperium really struggles to make its tech and every old piece is precious.

I wouldn't mind there being some new Thunder Warrior models just for fun. Though I think that'll be a 3d printer deal.

Point of order on no Marines wearing Thunder Armor. One of the mid hammer Marine codices (I think 6th?) depicts an Iron Hands marine wearing some.

Skipping to mkx power armour and there being no mk9 is probably a reference to Apple skipping from iPhone 8 to iPhone X

Also I have to say, the recent MKVI and III feel, lifeless in some respects. But ah well
