Great information. Clear. Concise. To the point. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! FF to 3 months later...I finally got a chance to use this video today and it worked perfectly! Thanks again!
This worked amazing! I did 350 for exactly 6 mins and it was perfect - even for 4mm. The one thing I noticed was it only worked on cast acrylic which is fine since that’s mostly what I use. The test I did on extruded melted to the aluminum foil. In both cases I only noticed minor fumes when I opened the door but they went away quickly. Thank you for this advice!!
Very creative, you may also like to know that when swords are made they follow the same law of thermodynamics that you pointed out in the cooling plastic. This is that if you let it cool naturally the blade will become INCREDIBLY durable and tough, much more than if you simply cool it in water and make very hard for good cutting but terrible for resilience as it becomes almost as brittle as glass at its edge. Thought you might like to know this, not many people do.
The simple things we don't know about :-).Thanks. I have a caravan with acrylic windows with a slightly curved face ,which flattens out at the edges. One was broken so I'm wondering if I use the opposite one as a mould, will the temp of the shaping piece damage the good one? Much appreciated.
Im making two windshields for my bass boat im going to use a 16inx36in x3/16 tinted acrylic what temp and how long should i leave it in oven.i made a drape mold to lay the piece over
If I wanted to make corners by heat forming 2mm acrylic (clear if it varies between colors) on a cardboard form using just gravity, would it still be the same time and temperature? I want to make a visor that's narrower at the sides than in the middle then add window tint to give it a black color without hindering my vision too much (the tint would be applied after of course).
Sweet, thanks. Trying to curve a large piece of 5mm into a curve and the heat gun is just warping it all over the place while taking a lot of heat to bend. I think I'll try this method as I need the whole thing to uniformly bend.
same thing happened to me. Was trying to use a heat gun to bend some sheets into a visor shape, but the bending was uneven. Gonna use an oven next time
I need to create a 48” diameter semicircle of 8” tall acrylic (actually two, one for each end), as a table end barrier for a slot car track. What thickness would you recommend, and can I do this with a heat gun and a few extra helpers (7-9 years old)?
Great idea, and thank you. Just wondering, if I was to laser engrave onto acyrlic then use your technique to make a curve, would the engraving be affected in any way?
Awesome video Ammnra. But for a question, how do different materials react to being molded and casted? Would extruded polystyrene or EVA hold up in the process? Would it even work?
Im wanting to make 2 small bass boat windshields i made a mold to drape it over after i heat it what do i ask for when ordering material i want a black sheet of material about 3/16 thick
You sir, have inspired me! Thank you so much for this video! I do have one question: how would you go about bending a piece of flat sheet acryllic into a rounded, dome-like shape?
Multi axis banding (curved in two directions) is hard with sheet acrylic. I've tried vacuum forming and it never really worked for me. You can do it but you'll be fighting wrinkles or folds with extremely domes surfaces.
Question...I'm currently in the process of making my own "bending table", but I've heard of the option of using an oven, as you have demonstrated... My question is, what temp and time period would I need to go with when bending or forming 3/8" cast acrylic sheet? Thanks
Any tips for someone with a piece of acrylic too big for an oven? I am putting a port hole in a wine barrel and it is tough going. I am using a heat gun but without being able to heat the entire piece at once, the shape is no where near perfect!
I have a question, will the heating prosses in my oven, ruined the clarity of clear acrylic 1/16 inch thick sheet? I need to form a visor with a 90 degree angles on each side for my goggles... Please let me know maybe im better of using a hair dryer
laser cutting is clean and easy - if you have access - but for larger sheets, and if you want to do angles, something called a festool is amazing and accurate

ALL YT studio tech tips should be as clear, as direct and as helpful as yours! Subscribed! My Thanks 😀
Thank you soo much for this! I've been trying all afternoon to slightly bend a small sheet with a heat gun and this worked first time!
Exactly what I was looking for! Clear and to the point, thank you.
These quick tip videos are awesome please keep them up
Good, quick, informative, well spoken and presented video. I am just getting into acrylic and this has helped a lot! Love the logo too ;)
Thanks for the info! Worked like a charm.
Marvelous ...thank you very much brother ....very helpful ...Malaysia .
Thank u u just helped me take my aquarium building to the next level 🤝🏽💯
Great tip! Thanks for sharing your method.
Thank you very much... this is a very useful piece of knowledge that I will apply to my designs!
Love it!!!!! Sweet, to the point and very informative!!!!!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
Wooo! More tips! Keep em up
Brilliant tip thank you
Thanks again for all of the good tips!
Very nicely done, thanks!
Great tip, I'm going to try this.
very helpful video with great tips!!
Cool tips, thanks dude !
So you first get it floppy, then you shape it! Great video!

Thanks a lot for this! Been wanting to make a redesigned Geordi La Forge visor and needed to know how to go about it.
genius!!!!! liked and subscribed!!!!!
thanks for the tip
Since I found you on TH-cam this was the 1st video I watched, how did you etch the design?
Thank you this was very informative!
how cool is that!

nice video. will this work on acrylic sheets about 1/4mm thick? i'm planning to create a completely round aquarium using this method
Thank you sir
Awesome Video! How do you get the design onto they acrylic? Is it done with a laser?
Thank you! Damn, why didn't I come up with bending it over a pan. This has helped me so much
Classy R2 bowl.
Does the acrylic emit an unpleasant smell when being heated at 350 degrees Fahrenheit?
Yes it does! Don’t use home cooking oven.
Is it possible to form a box by heating acrylic as you shown and then making a box.. hope you answer

Can you buy this small sheets? How do you cut. It? Thanks
Is it possible for you to make video of DIY acrylic gaming PC chassis? That would be super cool to see in your channel.
helped me with my project, thank you.
very useful , thanks.

I had same problem with the heat gun. Too small a diameter of heat to evenly warm the 8" wide x 14" long piece of 1/8th" plexi.
thank's for your sharing idea ,

What temperature and time should I use for Lexan .060?
are there any fumes to worry about when you heat acrylic to 350 degrees?
Yes! There are! And the oven you cook in should NOT be used.
May I know how you put those designs (numbers and lines) in the acrylic?
I like this.
Awesome video Ammnra. But for a question, how do different materials react to being molded and casted? Would extruded polystyrene or EVA hold up in the process? Would it even work?
how do you measure for those attatchment slots??
That's rad
Can you make nice sharp angles with that method? I mean shapes like the front of a boat?
Hey. How/where do you get your coloured plexiglass/acrylic?
Im wanting to make 2 small bass boat windshields i made a mold to drape it over after i heat it what do i ask for when ordering material i want a black sheet of material about 3/16 thick
Thanks for the video. Where did you buy the gloves? I mean, the leather driving gloves. They kinda look heat resistance!
What types of plastic can you use for like a halo helmet or something along those lines and how can you shape it thank you
The designs on the sheets are they self made or pre-ordered ?
I been heat bending sheets to try to make instrument cluster lens since I repair a lot of them. I keep having issues where the acrylic becomes lumpy
You sir, have inspired me! Thank you so much for this video! I do have one question: how would you go about bending a piece of flat sheet acryllic into a rounded, dome-like shape?
I don't think that would be plausible with just heat. The circumference would change so you'd need to measure a few places to cut into.
@@edgymcmemes1718 Use a vacuum former.
@@TheChaselg1 I'm sure OP appreciates this, 5 years on. Lmaooo

What if you use the inside of the pot? Would it try to return to its original flat shape?

350°F for 6 minutes, as ammnra said. Watch the video at 1:55 as many times you like.
i have a question after you have molded the Acrylic can you get an led to still shine around your new mode
If you have a 0.3 inch Acrylic can you use the oven and how many mins do you have to keep it
will a piece of heated plexi (350deg.) melt painted goods...like a fender on a car? im trying to make a mud flap
I want to make a box to carve Ostrich eggs and I need to round out a sheet, would it be safe to shape it with a large PVC tube?
Any tips for someone with a piece of acrylic too big for an oven? I am putting a port hole in a wine barrel and it is tough going. I am using a heat gun but without being able to heat the entire piece at once, the shape is no where near perfect!
How did you make those fancy patterns inside of it?
Bon Bon usually using a dermal I’d imagine
I have a question, will the heating prosses in my oven,
ruined the clarity of clear acrylic 1/16 inch thick sheet? I need to form a visor with a 90 degree angles on each side for my goggles... Please let me know maybe im better of using a hair dryer
Awesome tip for bending acrylic. I'm surprised how well the oven worked. I always just used the heat gun.
If I needed to form something bigger, could I use a heat gun?
He killed R2D2! OMG
will this work on bigger 1/8 sheet acrylic say a 15" x 15" or 30" x 30" just as examples
How we can bend 12mm thick acrylic sheet
great video and advice, you didn't miss a beat when talking
Can a heat gun work instead of the oven?
Imagine making one of his folding blades out of acrylic and silver tape. That might be cool.
Any ideas what I can use to shape a headpiece without actually using my face?
is a .118" acrylic kind of the same as a 1/8"?
1/8 is 0.125"
+Dazed and Confused thanks
How can i curv thin craft foam without heatgun
can we do this in a microwave or convection oven???
microwave won't heat the acrylic. a stove oven is better.
Best way to cut acrylic sheets?
laser cutting is clean and easy - if you have access - but for larger sheets, and if you want to do angles, something called a festool is amazing and accurate
This is a Silly question but
Where do you get your acrylic
Izaiah Peralta Inventables
ammnra have you ever tried glass? it may be easier not to damage the surface when touched and no over melt
lmao when he says veryy fwoppy hahah
God
The tin foil ruined the lense so now it's blurry to see through
Dat bowl tho
Are you barefoot? LOL
