Aegina 🥰! I used to take the 18A bus from Kifisia to the metro to Piraeus then the ferry to Aegina by myself when I was only 10-11 years old! I love it! I’m hoping to retire in Greece by 2024.

There is a Fistiki (Pistachio festival ) in Aegina in September. They harvest pistachio nuts on the island in September which are the best I’ve ever had. The main town has a food fair in September with pistachio related treats and bags to order.
They are so great! Didn’t know about the festival. Will try to remember for next year!

That ferry was fantastic I remember island hopping in the 80s and it was like boarding the Ss Minnow and the whole crew were like Gilligan

Haha, you pronounce the name of the island completely differently to me.
Great to see so much of the temple, more than any other video on AEGINA I’ve seen, and I’m very keen to sketch it as I’ve done on my trips to Sisely, Italy and Turkey.
It is a great temple especially for sketching. There was a woman sketching it when I was there.
Next time you visit Aegina, you can check out a very pretty island next to it called Moni Eginas, you can get a boat from the main port although not that frequent and you can see some clear waters, nice nature and deers and peacocks!

BTW, I have some updates on the travel size cosmetics...! I found out by accident that the Hondos center at Ampelokipi (at the start of the kifisias avenue) has a rather extensive line of travel size woman's cosmetics. Don't know if this is the case in other hondos centers from now on.

How was the pistachio pesto? Did you find some to take home with you? When I went to Aegina in the early 1990s, I took the ferry to Agia Marina. It was such a popular beach then.
It wasn’t that great. The ferry doesn’t go to Agia Marina anymore which is a shame. It’s still popular but harder to get to now.
I swear, whenever people talk about water temps for swimming in the Mediterranean, I thank God I grew up on the beaches of SoCal, where temps hovered in the mid-60s in summer, yet still we swam. I think I recall your saying you're from Texas, so I get it, given the bathwater temps the Gulf can get to, but still, I'm glad I got acclimated to cold sea water swimming when I was young.
I am not a huge fan of the cold water. I want it to be refreshing but not so cold. I also used to live in the Caribbean and I loved that water.

The pesto wasn’t very pistachio flavored. I have had better zucchini balls but the sausage was great!!

You’re welcome. It depends on what you want to do. It’s a pretty big island so biking may not be possible if you aren’t used to it. Also, getting up to the temple would be hard on a bike.

I meant to ask you this previously so when I was in Greece in January I took flying dolphin from Piraeus to Aigena. I had a wonderful experience what I wanted to know from you since you are an ex-pat living in Greece when one buys a ticket on one of these fairies how does one know which port to go to unlike an airport when I arrived in Pereus off of the metro I didn’t see any kind of information board that one would see inside of an airport can you answer this?
There is a large board at the port, but it is outside the fence so you may not have seen it. The gate number should be on your ticket though. If it isn't then, you can go to the office of the ferry operator at the port and they can tell you.

It depends on how much activity you want. If you want more to do, then I would go to the port.

What do you do with your bag while you're swimming?
I just leave it. I have never had anyone take anything and I don't worry. I do keep an eye on it but it usually isn't a problem.

I posted that comment while watching the part wher you are headed to Aegina unaware that you were aware , i remember now that there is also an exclusive market in Athens where they sell them in bulk. You can see Aegina from the Acropolois i never thought to visit it when in Greece always heading to the more distant touristic isles but now i am addind it to my list for the next trip , thanks for the revelation.
I highly recommend looking at less touristy islands. They are usually amazing and less crowded.
A-yeena emphasis on the A. no G sounds in the pronunciation. Not EGG-eena
