It's called toning witch if it looks good it's a great thing as far as value but if it isn't pleasing to the eye's then the old saying goes (beauty is in the eye's of the beholder). But even if it's ugly there's still hope but that's depending on how much money you want to invest. You can take some ez and clean it (without hurting it's natural luster) underneath the gold toning. But if you do do this please take your time and do it right. Dip the coin in the ez for 2 to 4 seconds no more then wash off with water but do not scrub the coin with your fingers of anything else for that matter. Then take a hot blow dryer and dry the coin off straight after rinsing off with water. Again do (NOT scrub the coin with your fingers NOTHING) If you scrub there is a good chance you will either do one of two thing's or maybe both. 1- if you scrub you could remove the natural factory luster that's left behind by the minting plates when making the coin. 2 - if you scrub with (ANYTHING) you could scratch the natural luster left behind after minting the coin. Or and here where it comes to how much money you want to put into the coin but you could send the coin to PCGS a coin grading company and have them do restoration job on the coin bring back to it's original condition off the press if they agree to do the restoration because the coin has to meet certain requirements before PCGS will agree to restore it. Be careful and you'll do just fine. Good luck I hope this helps.
