The JD model GW was built during WW2. The W stood for War. In late 1942, congress put a freeze on tractor prices, and JD need to raise the price on the model G, but couldn;t because of the price freeze. To get around the price freeze change the model G to GW. It was and is the same tractor. After the War, the W was dropped.
