AS A YOUNG OF 9 YEARS I LIVED WITH MY GRAND MOTHER OF BLESSED MEMORY, AT 114 VICTORIA STREET AND SAW AND LISTENED TO REX LAWSON WHEN HE PLAYED AT WESTERN HOTEL OR BRADFORD ARMS HOTEL.A JOYFUL MAN WHO LOVED CHILDREN AND USE TO DASH US MONEY. SO MANY YEARS LATER I VISUALIZE HIM WHEN I LISTEN TO HIS MUSIC.I AM SURPRISED NO MOVIE HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT HIM.THE KING OF HIGHLIFE MUSIC.HE LOVED HIS CRAFT AND SOMETIMES CRY WHILE PLAYING HIS MUSIC. I AM SURE HE IS UP THERE WITH THE ANGELS PLAYING HIS MUSIC.HIS LEGACY KEEPS GOING ON THIS EARTH.

Wow, I read that he was a very emotional person and cried sometimes while singing. But I wonder why there no videos.

Rex Him Lawson: The Ijaw music Ambassador to the world. You sang in various Nigerian languages, and crossed to Cameroonian language in the song "Oko".
Wickedness took you away from the earth too early.
The Ijaw man of every generation is even more proud of you - now .
Mbre, continue to rest in the Lord!

Thank you so much for sharing these with the word. That's what music lovers do. Yes, Cardinal Rex Jim Lawson was a great Genius. His live performances were nothing short of Mastery and total captivation with the genius in his art & craft of God's given talents. And that is why his music is ageless. James Brown is the Godfather of Soul & Cardinal Rex Jim Lawson is the Godfather of Highlife.
R.I.P Brother. We will 4ever miss your kindness & generosity to us as groupies then. May you rest in God's '4ever Home' till we meet again.😭😭😭✌

Rex Lawson's Mother was from Mbieri... It was Ralp Amarabem of the Peacocks that composed Love Adure for him in 1964 when he returned from Ghana for before he jointly formed Peacocks Band in 1972 with Nzeh Dan Orji. I always shade tears of Joy each time I listen to the music of Rex Lawson, Israel Nwaoba of the Wizards, John Ikediala and Celestine Obiakor of the Easter mistress and of Owerri, Celestine Ukwu, the Oriental Brothers and other great highlife musicians.

Unfortunately, another Music Maestro, who departed this Plane, in his prime.
It is alleged that it was the gods of Urhonigbe that caused his accident, because he refused to play gig at Urhonigbe, claiming it was too small a place, for him to play.
There is a saying there today, that Urhonigbe was too small for Rex to play, but was not too small for him to die, in an accident.

I really don't listen to this so called current music by artists who I can't name psquare , etc I rather listen to this or listen to onyeka, bongos ikwue or fela. if you cannot sell out a restaurant in America performing an original african tune, you should not call yourself an artist. trying to sing or sound like Chris Brown would or awilo will get you nowhere. my people go back to basics, where is sunny nneji for God's sake

I don't think he has a son playing music presently in this our time. probably he never a son as at 1971 he died on auto accident. Rex was a fabulous musician I ever had his songs.
