This is the first year I have no gift related stress. I’m so thankful for the information you have given us all, thanks to your book and videos we have given away sold or thrifted about 40 garbage bags of stuff. I no longer use plastic bags and don’t even bring home receipts. Even the pull of going to the thrift store is gone. Thank you, be blessed!
Wish I could have a cure of not going the thrift store ! So hard to do as buying new clothes are expensive and I have a fear of missing out , that there might be that great deal at the thrift store . Silly really when you think about it . Also when it comes to food I usually buy whatever is on sale but then don't have the items to put a meal together .
Gifts come as experiences in our home now... Eating out, movies are all part of the gift and it's all family time. This year we have purchased a year pass for the Christchurch Gondola here in NZ. Our children love it there😊
I just recently found you so I'm a few years behind and catching up. LOL I don't typically spend on gifts, I make them. I make anything from matching tablecloths and napkins to blankets I crochet. I start in January for the following Christmas. Throughout the year I'm making baby blankets and matching beanies for baby shower gifts. During the holiday I stay the heck away from stores. All the madness kills the spirit for me. I grocery shop at the end of November for a month. I have enough backup food supply here to last a while so I don't have to go near the stores. I'll just stay in my cozy warm home, watching Christmas movies in my sweats and hot cocoa.
For the first time, this past Christmas, we didn't buy gifts for anyone, even within the family. Our tree skirt was beautifully bare. We don't have space-consuming tree decorations like baubles, garland, and a chunky topper. Our ornaments are flat fabrics, miniature wreaths, jingle bells, cookie cutters, and wooden cutouts. Our topper is a mini wreath made of faux white cranberries. Six dozen ornaments fit compactly into two gallon-size zip-lock bags. This saves a lot of shelf and storage space. And we still gave out Christmas cards to everyone.
I have a separate account for gifts- every payday I put a certain amount in, so when birthdays/weddings/Christmas etc come up I pull from that account. I make sure it’s enough that it accumulates into the holiday season. Also, call me a freak but I do the majority of my shopping in October. Most of my shopping is gift cards/donations in a person’s name and perhaps the odd bottle of alcohol, so it’s not like they go bad anyways
Hey there! This came along perfectly. I have a little girl of 4. I have done plenty of de cluttering this year. Kitchen, clothes, stuff and toys. This year my little girl is only getting 2 presents. We celebrate Christmas and the Holy Saints. She has also asked for very specific items and that way she gets only what she really wants. And not have toys that she really doesn't care for. Adiós.
But not the Biblical Feasts? Teaching her about The Almighty's appointed celebrations would be a wonderful gift! Leviticus 23 is a great place to start.
I love this series Joshua, and i wanted to add an important point about buying unnecessary stuff too. sometimes we overbuy stuff when we go into a special occacion, for example when i wanted to get married, i over bought cloths that i KNEW i didnt need.. and now i didnt wear them a lot, it was just the buzz of the event that made me buy them. Another example could be with a newborn baby or any occasional event that we usually dont have experience about. Like my marriage experience, i was afraid that im gonna need things that i never needed before this phase of my life, so based on that i bought stuff that i didnt have a real idea about.
I find that many articles sold in garage sales were Christmas gifts that were not liked or unwanted. Maybe we should just shorten our gift-giving lists.
Travel tip: rent a large car/van with lots of seats, room for presents and with a decent sterio or bring a speaker. For kids it's really fun to ride in a big, bus line car that they normally don't ride in and for the adults it's nice to have extra room for everything and everyone. It becomes an event and road trips get a lot easier this way. Normally it will also turn out cheaper than flights.
Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that my new book, Things That Matter, is finally here. I put my heart into it, and I can’t wait to share it with you. You can pick up a copy at www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/676394/things-that-matter-by-joshua-becker/
The entire economy runs on spending. Most people will not earn their bonus or even salary or jobs if not for these holidays or festive spending. It’s what u can afford . Those who can .. should . Otherwise the companies will close down n massive unemployment. U shouldn’t be irresponsible n silly .. but it is okay to celebrate.
Joshua Becker yes .. overspending as in taking huge loans that u are incapable to pay or lose capability due to job loss or health issues. But taking loans n spending is important too .. if people pay rent all their lives n save to buy home .. how will they ? If they spend on logistics n save for car .. how will they ever ? As I said .. don’t go crazy n overstuff or hoard .. but spending is important to keep everyone in business. I m a minimalist ( to a degree n very organised person) but I buy expensive quality stuff over too many cheap things. I use them for long n they still look n feel good to give them to others rather going in landfills. I buy classic good stuff but I do buy . Saving is old India way n I would not be able to sleep if I don’t have saving of atleast an year’s worth of living well without income . So balance is important. Do what u can afford.
@@ant7936 Read your Bible, it says otherwise. "Jesus" was not born in December, as easily proven by the fact that the shepherds would not have been in the fields at night in such temperatures. 12/25 is the birthdate of every SUN god. Thanks Abner.

Having a separate savings account for gifts is such a great idea.

My family donates to charities in family member's name for this very reason. We can buy our own stuff.
This year I have bought my kids fewer things but much better quality. I'm actually proud of the things I bought as they are timeless pieces.
Love this
So good advices! Thank you!
Very nicely presented
Great tips as always, thank you Joshua! I love the little segment at the end of this video. I love living in a small house! 😊
Thank you.
Great tips!

What if you buy early threw the yr
Hi new sub from the UK
It’s funny how inconvenient those “convenience” costs can become.
Are you avoiding the word "Christmas?"🎀Great video.
Better than avoiding saying Christmas is to avoid celebrating it or any other pagan holiday which goes against Scripture.
Im a bit too late for this. This first holiday married kicked my ass.

People overspending is not a viable economic scenario. It leads to economic downturns in the long-run.

You could easily avoid over spending by avoiding these pagan holidays altogether!
"Holiday"?
Do you mean CHRISTMAS?
You're allowed to say it.
Anthony Roberts it looks like Christmas !
I know it’s early , so I scrolled back to previous videos to see what Joshua would suggest ☺️
Or any of the pagan holidays, Christmas included.
