@SammyzukoI agree with you. Every thought and emotion gets spoken out loud as they guess and second guess everything instead of allowing the story to unfold as the writers, actors and producers intended. Remember when silence was golden in theaters? We might have leaned over and made one or two comments to each other or locked eyes with a knowing glance at certain scenes but we didn’t talk throughout the f’ing thing because we were respectfully paying attention. Most reactors already have the cliff notes in cultural meme form, so movies become all about their own thoughts and feelings. I’ve stopped watching a lot of them as well, especially the ones who treat it like a daytime lunch date in a gossip girls scene or cry at an on-screen animal getting mistreated or mitigate for murderers because they are just misunderstood.
The creepy song during the opening credits is one of Trent Reznor’s remixes of his song Closer by Nine Inch Nails. As it ends you can hear the line from Closer “you get me closer to God.” Also regarding the opening credits, they didn’t mention Kevin Spacey because they figured everyone would correctly assume he must be the killer halfway through if we hadn’t seen him by then. That’s why his name is first and alone in the end credits.
You two are so lucky the ending wasn't spoiled for you- "What's in the (effing) BOX!" has been a part of pop culture for years after this one! And I'm a wee bit jealous as I'd LOVE to be able to watch this one for the first time again!
@@ange1098 Today's world?? We've been murdering, burning, graping and enslaving for profit since the dawn of times...but i do also agree with the 2nd part.
This film shows how much cinematography advanced in the mid-90s. Never before could a 30-year-old movie have looked this fresh. They even got over the hump of early-90s haircuts and fashion, leaving only CRT monitors and the lack of cellphones as significant time indicators.
I really love reactions like this one where you both really didn't know anything and your slowly piecing it all together the shocks on your faces were amazing I had fun watching this takes me back to when I first saw this movie when I was 15 or so had trouble sleeping for a few days lol
K-PAX for me but this was great, as with most of his work. He wasn't named in the promotion for the movie which is why his name is first to appear in the end titles. Similar to Sir Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs, screen time is irrelevant to impact. Bravo indeed.
You couldn't pull that off without PERFECT acting, directing, set design and artistry across the board. Every subtle thing had to be perfect to pull that off. It's pretty much a rare planet alignment of stars, writing and directing to make that as amazing as it is. One of the best crime dramas ever, if not THE best.
Subscribing!!!! Best part of this movie is no matter if David stayed with him or ran to that van and opened the box the ending would be the same Genius!!!
Saw this in theaters with my older sister when I was 14. Fantastic theater experience, I still remember the sound of shock in the audience, one giant collective “GASP” Great reaction to a great movie. Fun fact: idk if anyone has mentioned that Kevin Spacey’s name was was left out of the promotions & the opening credits of the movie in order to keep the mystery & shock value of “John Doe” in tact.
Thanks to Sam and Tristan! 📦 I didn't see this on in the cinema, but on home video as soon as it was available... and somehow wasn't spoiled for the twist.
Fun fact: Gwenyth Paltrow’s deceased head was originally supposed to be shown, but last minute details the director decided not to for the purpose of the intensity & suspense of the scene. They did have a fake head replica prop, but left it in storage & interestingly well over a decade + later they used that exact same head prop of Gwenyth Paltrow in a film called “Contagion” (If you two ever decide to react to that film it’s not actually a spoiler what I said)
David Fincher’s first movie was Alien 3, however, the studio had a hand in the final theatrical release and he was not happy about it…at all! In fact he refused to be involved with post production because of the interference from the studio. To this day he says he hates the movie because of the studio interfering. When they released a box set of the first 4 Alien movies, an alternate version was included with all of them. The alternate version of Alien 3 contains about 30 minutes of additional footage with extended scenes and alternate scenes and ending, which is more of Fincher’s version. He however, wasn’t involved with the alternate version, sometimes called the “Assembly Cut”.
During the filming of the scene in which Brad Pitt's character pursued John Doe and fell from the fire escape, Mr. Pitt sustained an actual injury. His subsequent portrayal of an arm injury, complete with a cast, accurately reflects the laceration he received during the fall.
Fun tidbit about the movie filming itself for the Sloth scene. Fincher didn't tell any of the actors that the guy in bed was supposed to be alive. So all their reactions to him moving were natural.

14mins in "it seems like it's personal" my mind thinking about the last scene... 'oh boy!' and at 16mins one of the best zombie close-up jump scares without an actual zombie lol A truly dark and gritty one, but the actors and crew performed perfection! Thanks guys!
Saw this in the theater. Never heard so many people upset at the end of a movie when we realized it was her head. People knew before he said it. So many gasps.

His client said there were 2 more bodies, 2 more victims hidden away, those were Tracy and the baby inside of her. If Mills and Sommerset did not agree to his deal, those 2 would never be found.
When I saw this in theaters in 1995 it was even creepier because I hadn't seen Kevin Spacey in any film before. He really made the character believable, but MORE so for me as he was completely unknown!
I'm sorry I can't help but mention how your striped shirt is giving "taemin from lucifer dance practice" levels of trippiness and I love it lol just found y'all's channel today and I've been binging, woke up and saw this got posted! 💜
At the time the lawyer was speaking, the 2nd body was the baby. Conversation in the car when John Doe says “you won’t miss a thing” implies that Mills had been neglecting his wife and/or that Tracy had decided to abort.
Seeing this movie in the theater when I was around 17 was intense!! Def brought a more eerie and unsettling feeling in the theater. This is def one that needs to be processed after you've first watched it. lol Great reactions!! I was so waiting on how you guys were going to react at the "Sloth" guy coming "back to life". Ha! IF you liked this one there was another movie that came around the same year in the same vein called Copycat. Also about another serial killer. INSANE!
Great movie. Kevin Spacey is an incredible actor, putting his personal stuff aside. He’s not even listed in the opening credits so no one knew who the killer would be. Definitely watch The Usual Suspects. He plays an ass so well, to see him like that, watch Swimming With Sharks and Horrible Bosses. That last one is a fun comedy.
Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow were a couple at this time. The fingerprint tech was played by Morgan’s son. The director didnt tell the actor who plays the cop standing over the sloth victim that he was still going to be alive so we see the actors genuine reaction when he gasps.
Great reaction guys! I hope you'll react to Zodiac as well. As Tristan said, it's a great movie and I think Sam would really enjoy it given how much she enjoyed Se7en. You might both also enjoy the psychological thriller The Game (1997) which was also directed by David Fincher and stars Michael Douglas.
Mills would not serve time due to diminished responsibility. Doe's manipulations would have caused temporary insanity in Mills. Fincher's The Game and Gone Girl are also worth the watch.
"F-ing Dante!" Mills being a c-level student is very funny to me in Se7en. Without Somerset's brain he would have been twiddling his thumbs until John Doe turned himself in. Not that their investigation accomplished much either way, but still 😅

I saw this in the cinema when it came out. Was in a bummed out mood, thought "Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman in a buddy cop movie? Why not." Needless to day, I was not in a happier place after I saw it. Still an excellent film.

But what was doe's original end game? Mills just transferred in like a week ago, his plan has been going for over a year. He was just hoping that a cop that's a little bit of a hot head to get assigned to the case.
Great movie, set up in a dark atmosphere. Gruwsome killings (especially with the lust part). Kevin Spacey is good as the psychopath killer. Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman are always good in every movie. Thumbs up for Tristan for the early thought about the seven deadly sins.
This is David Fincher's masterpiece. If you continue your Alien journey Fincher also directed Alien 3 which you should see the director's cut of. It's a much better film than the theatrical release.
Naw, that's not impulsive, I'm sure anyone would do that in his situation. After seeing how the justice system really works I dont think any jury is going to convict him on murder charges in that situation, especially when he was provoking him, that's literally intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The most well educated person Mills can think of is Yoda 😂
With that, what is wrong?😀
@adamweed9788 because Mills is powered by emotion, becoming Wrath so didn't understand Master Yoda at all.

One of the best movies of the 90s. Truly disturbing and bizarre, but genius in its own right.
One of the alternate endings had Somerset shooting John Doe instead to stop his mission. He was to state to Mills who was shocked ‘I’m retired’
Yeah, the story board they did in the dvd with bonus features. I like the original ending but this one would have worked quite well too.

The music is by Howard Shore, who a few years later did The Lord of the Rings films.
That's why John Doe didn’t kill Mills earlier when he had a chance.
