Brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye. I can not believe it's 30 years since I saw Matt's smiling face at Emma's 18th birthday party in Tewkesbury-the last time any of us saw him. You will never be forgotten Matt xxx
Thank you first and foremost for your service in the falklands conflict. You made a country proud, and you continue to do so, and we as youngsters will never forget your efforts aboard this ship and her history. My grandad Eric Memmott served on Argonaut during WW2, whilst an entirely different vessel he was so proud of you chaps! I need you to know this. When Sheffield went down (where he was from) he was crestfallen, another war injury he so sorely felt. If only wars stopped when millions of men had paid the penultimate sacrifice. I’m 34 now, my grandad passed away some 20 years ago... it has been my solemn duty to honour everyone that sailed upon her and her predecessor! So much so to have the insignia proudly emblazoned on my arm, along with the proud remembrance in the form of the posturing 61 class tattoo on my forearm.... never, in time as I spend on this planet, will anyone close to me, Ever forget the services that served under the insignia HMS Argonaut. God bless you all and those that sailed in to the clouds.
I served on HMS Intrepid in San Carlos with the Argonaut, i remember her stationed at the far end, knowing she had been badly damaged. A year later I was drafted to Argonaut, a fresh crew to bring her out of Refit after her repairs, and conversion. proud to have served on both. Thanks for posting.
@@will_e754 hi, joined Argonaut un June of '83, still in refit/repair in Devonport. Was a new ships company, and fitted fresh with Towed Array sonar for the new times. Excocet to instead of 4.5 gun. Was on her for almost 18 months..
I too was on the Argonaut during the falklands ...we seemed to be the forgotten ship thanks for this ..I too am typing this with tears in my eyes .Youve done a great job ...Mathew and Ian gone but never forgotten
Ian Parry my grandad fought on Argonaut during the 1939-45 campaign, the ship is tattoo’d on my forearm as well as the insignia in rememberence For all those that served, and some were lost no doubt during the damage she sufficed/ we went on to lose to time. I want to thank you for carrying on my grandads naval tradition. He was called Eric memmot, once reunited by his Australian marine in Sheffield in the early 90’s before his death at the young age of 76. I salute you and your service. Thank you
Ian parry, my great uncle was second in command of the HMS Argonaut during the falklands war and I am incredibly proud of him and the courage of the men especially when the ship was hit. He was called Barry Bartlett, I hope you remember him and I salute you and your service during the falklands war. Thank you.
The respect I have for every guy who actually did their duty brings tears to my eyes. I was on Antrim during the Falklands. Respect to everyone who never came home. They are my heroes.
Was a MEML serving on HMS Fearless at time of the Falklands, got sent over with 3 other greenies to recable the main fuse boxes in the boiler room and the 2 aux fuse boxes in the engine room,as the bomb had smashed them up during its trip around the boiler room. All During air raids.Respect to those on the ship at that time.
Great video mate thank you for putting it together. I was a WE on Argonaut in the Falklands and often think about the 2 lads that didn't come back with us. Many thanks again for doing this. Robbie
I am very very proud to say that my Dad served on her and the Ark Royal but the Argonaut was always his baby. Granville Farrar, Stoker, engineer and my all time hero.... R.I.P Dad. Thanks to all who served with him.
I served on this ship in the falklands 1982 i was in the boiler room . This video made me cry some thing i didn't do then . Remember the 56 and Mathew and ian
My uncle also served on this ship at this time, he has a commendation for his efforts in being one of those responsible for the disposal of the two bombs... Petty Officer S, Dennis Morris was his name, he died in 2013 unfortunately
Hello, what a wonderful film and telling of the story of the Argonaut. I watched it with my Dad, Peter Hobbs, it was his favourite ship. He was the CCEA on the Argonaut on the Second Commission between 1969 and 1971. My Dad was promoted to a FCCEA (Fleet Chief) while on board the Argonaut. He tells many wonderful stories of those times. He was also on the Ark Royal, the Blake, Triumph, Tiger
From Brum Tew , AB Gunner Jan 1970-Dec 1973 great ship & great shipmates. Thanks NAVAD48 and god bless you, my keyboard seems to have small water drops on it ! We shall never forget them.
@56brush It was an honour do do this tribute to you men and boys. I really mean that................whatever is done will never be enough......well done lads. Your efforts and sacrifices will never be forgotten by many in this land of Britain & the Falkland Islands.
that was lovely to watch thankyou remember that day , was stuck in the rear sea cat ts of penelope, will now go back and watch this video again and try not to cry ,( not goingto happen}
Never a day passes when I don't remember our brave men who served and fought in the Falklands. Please remember them for generations to come. Tell your children and their children what they did and how bravely they served and fought for our great nation. We must keen our nation great not only for ourselves, but also our children. Never ever forget! God bless them.
HMS Argonaut - slightly damaged outside San Carlos Water by rockets and cannon fire from Aermacchi MB.339A of CANA 1 Esc, and then seriously damaged by two unexploded bombs (3/4) dropped by A-4B Skyhawks of FAA Grupo 5. Removing the UXB's and carrying out repairs took a number of days and although declared operational, she soon sailed for the UK.
That’s a noble account of her operational service and of course, by then, the Argentine Navy were nowhere, the Air Force - decimated (honourably) and the Argentine Marines, Special Forces, Army & AirForce units, on the Falkland Islands, well, let’s just say, “Waiting to be defeated & captured.
I did some time in HMS Argonaut in 1974 when I was transferred over to her from HMAS STUART (DE48), as a LSFC. We were on Far East Deployment at the time. A very memorable time for me! I had a ball. Loved the Double Diamond Beer but would have preferred it to be cold! LSFC2 Cook. Where are you Cookie! I was a member of one of the Gunnery Mess' Deck Hockey Teams, The first Gunnery Team to make a grand final in 3 or 4 commissions! Cheers fellars.
Those Leander boys were a different breed. On HMS Broadsword i did a USA trip with Argo in the early 90s, I recall that they kept the local police departments pretty busy. Salt of the earth.
Aaah Matt - Oppos for short time but you left indelible memories and are remembered forever. Hopefully you are able to have that 'legal' beer, that you never got to enjoy, with Craig now. Fine tribute thank you.
Nearest thing left to a Leander in this country is the 'Type 12' HMS Plymouth. Whats the score with the Falklands veteran.......? I wish there was a Leander left......our history is sliding away....fast.
Argonaughts-never forgotten;it's down to old fogeys like me to try and teach the youngsters about this needless war, about the government as was then, and about so much more// God Bless men & Godspeed
Served for 12vYears. Most of which were Leanders (Leander, Sirius, Danae, Ariadnae. I was there on HMS Active. When the poop hit the fan.(mine included)
A fantastic tribute to one of my favourite warships - our River Class were modified Leanders - very lethal looking warships, but not as lethal looking as the DDG's. My extremely biaised opinion is that HMAS Melbourne (R21) was the best ship EVER.
Last time I seen her she was in Gibraltar 1982 getting ready to sail south. We hoped to be going too but as we only had one screw they decided we would be more of a liability. I do believe a young Tiff on her won the Gib Rock race just before she left. First RN ship I ever saw after 20 years with her life rafts painted gray and not white.
Land of Hope and Glory ** THANK YOU ** Lest we never forget. Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy son's sons …."
Yep.Defending Falklands because people there want to remain british.Ok. Never asked the people you invaded to make the british empire if they wanted to be part of it. So fair.

I served on her from 1992 until she was decommissioned in 93. Had some great times and met some great people. Superb ship.
+Drew Adams I was on her from 1991 till she decommissioned. I was an AB missileman. Yes she was a superb ship.
