I read that Larry Connors ETF book back then too. Connors RSI was catching a falling knife though and it became problematic with certain solar stocks in the 2015 time frame. One of them just kept falling every day. I quit the falling knife strategies after that
you are right, all mean reversion strategies suffer from this. the only solution is a portfolio of uncorrelated strategies.
lets say your falling knife catcher strategy is 10% of your capital, so if that strategy suffer 50% drawdown, that will only be 5% of your portfolio, even if 3 strategies suffer the same fate, your portfolio will suffer 15% drawdown.
Now imagine having 20 uncorrelated strategies, and you see how your risk management jump to another level.

QUESTION IS--If trader was trading forex pair to hold for average duration of 3 days what time frame should be used for TREND DIRECTION?--IS IT 4 H CHART? Traders biggest enemy is trend flipping on A dime(e.g. 1H/lower times frame trend).Trend on 4H chart may be the best trend guide for majority of forex traders.. By the time trader confirms that trend on daily chart is up, market has already gone up about 5-7 days & if you ask supercomputer for the mathematical odds, computer tells you that odds are negative right from the start.Trend based on the last 10--15,four H candles has enough big players/juice/force behind it so that it would not flip on A dime, so trader has decent chance to make something without buying overpriced asset to lose again. Your wisdom/experience please?
There is no single answer, if you are a trend follower then longer term is the trend and by definition has already started so you are never entering at the beginning of a trend, you are always late to the party hoping that it will continue, most dont but when they do they last a long time.
If you are short term trader then you are looking for patterns, if the pattern with a filter says 5-7 days trend is profitable then thats all you need, just test

Sorry, I haven't understood one thing: to test the strategy ( I downloaded the code), how many shares of each ETF should I buy, 100? As it is written in the code? Thanks
100 will give an idea about performance, i usually test with full account value, if uou are doing this with multiple stocks/etfs then divide equal amount of $$ by instrument close price to get same risk profile
wonder how much are you making a month on average on your trading portfolio, more or less than 10%?
That is way too high, no trader realistically expect to triple their portfolio every year, it only happens in fantasy land
I think there are way to many entry rules. If you run the Parameters permutations test on SQX I am 100% sure it won´t pass it.
You can fix a couple easily
dont trade it the profit factor so bad
