Have used Zoom, thinking about Zencastr per recommendation, but evidently it doesn't run on Firefox and forces me to use Chrome ... drrrrr. Do you have one you recommend that might work with Firefox? I'd rather NOT use Chrome if possible.
After more than a week of searching how to record a podcast (just started podcasting) with a remote guest I finally found your youtube and I am forever grateful for that.
great great, so informative. other videos on this topic push product & don't give you the information you need. this video is informative and to the point. thank you so much
Thanks for this video! So excited to launch my podcast this month. I’d be very interested to hear your perspective & insight into TH-cam strategy for Podcasters. 💕 Grateful for you and hope your having a wonderful day
Great question! I didn’t previously recommend it for the short version, as it was a lot of extra work and rarely paid off (unless you were filming in person with guests, more like a talk show). However, TH-cam just announced that they’re adding podcasts in a new way to TH-cam music, so this might be worth exploring: www.theverge.com/2023/2/23/23611985/youtube-music-podcasts-background-listening Team Wit & Wire
This was a really helpful video. I only wanted to know about Tip 4 but glad I stuck around until the end because you gave extra value that I didn't realize I needed. Thanks!
Answered my questions. The structure of the content is neat. I plan to start a channel for interviews people’s stories. Video or podcasts, what do you think?
Great question. There’s no one right answer, since I think each type suits different types of creators. I’d ask yourself where you think your audience is most likely to go to find that type of content on that topic, and then I’d recommend a bit of competitor research. (Also, your preferences matter if one sounds more interesting to you than the other.) I hope that gives a helpful starting point!
I have Not interviewed anyone. Kinda nervous but willing to try one day. Also would like to say I Have been interviewed. The questions the interviewer asks the guest should be specific So the guest is not scrambling their thoughts on how to answer them. For me it was fine to be asked questions that I was given. But there's sooo many people who clam up when nervous. Hope this helps.
Great question. Zencastr does include some very basic editing features, and I do think you’re able to have a standard intro/outro saved to your account on certain paid plans. That said, I don’t typically recommend or use Zencastr for editing - just recording - so I’d check out Audacity, Hindenburg, or Descript (witandwire.com/descript)
Love this thanks! What about having my guest call in from their phone and I record via my Blue Yeti mic in Audacity? Would they need a mic or headphones if calling me from an iPhone or FaceTime?
Great question. If you record the phone or FaceTime call, it'll include both of your voices, which would make incorporating it with a separate Audacity recording of just you challenging. So for that reason, it's probably not a strategy I'd recommend. If you want to use just the phone recording, then it's up to you about how you want the audio quality to be on both ends, and if you want a mic for you or your guest. But as long as they don't try and use speaker mode, they shouldn't need headphones unless the mic on the headphones has better audio quality.
Good question! No, guests do not need to create a Zencastr account to record on mobile. Instead, they simply download the app and join you from a recording link or 5-digit code that you send them.
Mam I'm nervous because I'm scheduled to be interviewed for a remote radio podcast I have a laptop but I'm not tech savvy at all so they mentioned they would do it thru zoom so besides my laptop what do I need

You’re right that Zencastr has changed their pricing since I originally recorded this video, but I’ll admit I haven’t found a great fully free option in the meantime. I’m guessing it will be tough to find since it’s an in-demand market, but if anyone has any recommendations, I’d love to hear!
Thanks for this! For remote video interviews for TH-cam (video showing host and guest), would you recommend Google Hangouts or Zoom? Isn't it easier to upload the video from Hangouts straight to TH-cam or its pretty easy with Zoom as well
Great question! For most remote recording tools, the publishing process will be similar (you would need to edit the podcast and then upload the finished episode file to your hosting platform), but if you’re looking for a tool that can directly post to TH-cam, you might be looking at Riverside (witandwire.com/riverside) or Ecamm (witandwire.com/ecamm); both of which have livestreaming functionality in addition to the option to download the audio/video files for editing. I hope that helps! Team Wit & Wire
Great question. You should always be able to hear your guest in your headphones. But depending on the tool you use, there's usually an option to turn your own voice on or off. In Zencastr, it's under the "Settings" menu in a recording, and it's called "Monitor." I usually record with it off, but I always do sound checks before every recording. I hope that helps!
Great question. It depends on how new your laptop is and your personal preferences. (For some people, it might appear good enough. For others, the upgrade to an under $100 USD webcam will be a noticeable difference and improvement.) I’d test yours out and see what you think.
I’m so sorry to hear you’re having tech trouble. We recommend reaching out to their support team directly, since they’re the only ones who would be able to take a closer look. But we hope they’re able to help you find a cause or solution.
Great question! Yes, that's exactly right. For each person who joins the recording room, Zencastr will record their audio OR their audio + video, if that's what's selected. And everyone in the recording should at least wear headphones, or if you have one, you'd also use a microphone. (So if you're using both, the microphone would record your audio, an the purpose of headphones is to reduce echo from the other person's voice coming out of your computer if you weren't wearing them.)
Ideally, your guest should at least wear headphones with a built-in microphone, or they can use a phone to call into something like Zoom. But a USB microphone isn’t a requirement for guests.

Really great video! I love hearing about software and products I didn’t know about previously. Will definitely check out zen caster. Sounds great. So you don’t think we need to do the paid version of that? The free version is good enough?
By the way, my (new) podcast is DAR Today podcast. I am always searching for ways to improve the sound. It’s so frustrating! I love the sound of your mic. I might have to check out SHURE.
Thanks, I'm glad it was helpful! I would advise you to select the version that best suits your needs. Their free version provides quite a bit of options, but the functionality you're seeking will dictate the version you need. Hope this helps! Thanks, Team Wit & Wire
