  • Allow yourself to sink into a calm mind as you observe these beautiful gems to a soothing original flute composition. I have produced all the video and audio media in this video.
This jewelry-grade blue chalcedony exhibits remarkable and vibrant coloration. This material was collected some years ago in Central Utah on private property. These pieces represent the greater qualities of this material found, and have a certain appeal that sets them aside from common agates & chalcedony.
The blue color is a characteristic of the "Tyndall Effect", or the refraction of light by small particles such as iron or copper. These stones are rarely transparent because of these particles. Grade/quality is determined by color saturation, transparency, purity, and stability/suitability for cutting. High quality pieces with good rankings in all categories is extremely rare and are generally cut from very small pieces or sections. Some pieces in this instance have rhyolite inclusions, or exhibit brecciation (broken) patterns where the rhyolite has been "healed" by silica deposition.
Similar materials may include "Blue Turk", a highly valued blue chalcedony from Turkey. Banded blue agates are found elsewhere, but the purity and homogeneity of this material (blue chalcedony) makes it highly suitable for faceting and other lapidary products. It's rich blue color is easy to get lost in, as if gazing into the sea.
