I'm suddenly very thirsty and strangely in need of protection against scurvy and malaria!

Bond, Erasmus Bond. I like my water carbonated not flat.
Sorry, couldn't help myself. The 007 reference got me, haha!! :P
Loved this one! Especially learning about the gin and tonic as that's my drink of choice.

The Italian name for Geneva, Switzerland is "Ginevra", and in the Philippines, there is a gin called "Ginebra," famous for its painting of the Archangel Michael slaying the Devil, which also makes of the full name of this gin: "Ginebra San Miguel"

I'd love to know how Rose's Lime has changed.

It's surprisingly difficult to pin down -- there may be different sugars in different markets, today, but it may also just be that they're differently labelled now.

Why do only so few people follow your episodes? That"s the pits. The people who actually watch your clips are not the same at all compared to the one's who do subscribe. Quite bizarre.

I always use fresh citrus when making drinks. I guess I'll never have the authentic gimlet experience.

This episode piqued my curiosity so I decided to try as traditional a gimlet as I could make. At my local grocery store in North Carolina, they sell "Rose's Sweetened Lime Juice" with the same logo as your bottle except the words. According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose%27s_lime_juice, this product is significantly different from that available in Canada, which is still closer to the original recipe. I made a gimlet with the recipe on the bottle (1 fluid oz. Rose's and 1.5 fluid oz. gin). I used Tanqueray and the result is not bad, but I can tell it's not fresh juice. BTW, a similar cocktail I like is the Aviation, without crème de violette, since I haven't found that liqueur yet.

Yes, the variation in Rose's from country to country was a slightly frustrating discovery when we were making that episode; it's hard to know how much of the variation is in the recipe, and how much is in the labelling ("high fructose corn syrup" is called "glucose-fructose" here, for instance). And it certainly doesn't taste like fresh juice; I like it, as its own drink, but can understand that it's not to everyone's taste. And yes to Aviations, a very tasty way to drink gin! We only recently found crème de violette here ourselves; it's a strong flavour, but in very small doses in the cocktail I like it.
