I just finished sleeving my new "Oriss, Samite Guardian" deck.

I must know how you've done it, share your secrets!
@Overlord: since she is bootleg Rune-tail, the build is not too different from a Rune-tail deck.
Disadvantages:
- Dies to creature removal (Rune-tail spends most of his time being an enchantment)
- Has to tap to activate her ability (Rune-tail just gives out a passive bonus to ALL your creatures)
Advantages:
- Doesn't die from enchantment removal
- Ability doesn't rely on hp
- (Grandeur?)
My deck has:
1) Ramp
2) Tax pieces that make opponents pay to attack you, to deter attacks
3) Creatures with "may block any number of creatures" (if they attack, you use Oriss to fog)
4) 2-3 untap effects (puppet strings, ecc.) and protection from targeted removal for Oriss
5) Repeatable lifegain + Felidar Sovereign (main win condition, I've got other minor win conditions, but they are even jankier)
7) A three card combo that lets me copy oriss and bounce her to my hand for that "grandeur in commander" meme
8) A couple board wipes, some targeted removal, ecc.
Seriously, it's not a "good" deck... super janky, suffers from the usual white card advantage problems, dies to any non-creature based win condition and to any deck that can keep Oriss out of the game with targeted removal (fight-club decks, ecc.)
Also, probably pretty annoying to fight against.
It was basically a response to my group's meta (mostly comprised of super-timmy players), where my other decks got stomped REAL BAD.
I actually have a alhammarret commander deck 😂 I'm not even a hipster I just like his effect
I can see running him as a sort of lieutenant in an Isperia the Inscrutable Sphinx Tribal deck... Guarantees that one opponent will always have a particular card turn after turn to let you tutor out Unesh and the rest of the squad.
I didn’t realize until this video that alhammarret revealed all players hands, so that’s gonna be fun for my Nebuchadnezzar “no cards in hands allowed” deck
Guan Yu is useless XD. It might as well not have the trigger since you'd rather have it in the yard or command zone. XD

She is an awesome commander I hope to build a deck around her one day. Maybe she'll be in my third mono black deck after I build phyrexian tribal.
My most hipster is Soraya the Falconer. Gotta love blocking blightsteel colossus with a 1/1 bird with banding
Lol, I literally just finished my Chandler/Joven "partner" deck and submitted it to Archidekt last week, glad to just make the cut as #5. I beat my roommates Grothama stompy deck yesterday by comboing Chandler and Thran Forge and removing all his big boys. Nothing quite like a mono-red 5 Mana murder once a turn lol

And then I remembered her OP'ed ability requires white to activate and it made the list. All is right with the world.

I feel personally called out.
So, the card has 17 decks on edhrec, so it technically doesn't see play. However, I could not recommend Homura, Human Ascendant enough. Its an incredibly fun deck that can go toe to toe with just about anything outside of cedh. My version of the deck has been known to kill the table from nearly empty board states on turn 6 or 7, and its a powerful deck that doesn't usually draw a lot of salt from players.

Spun our group's wheel of Jank and landed on Veldrane last week. They had a good laugh about me having to build the deck, but we'll see who gets the last laugh *laughs in hipster*
I legitimately had a Bartel Runeaxe warrior tribal deck as one of my first edh builds. My best friend ran Kresh so I wanted to run something different. Glad to see him get some recognition.

Apparently I'm a hipster deck builder. I love taking cards that the mtg community generally regard as 'bad' and try to make them work. Why play easy mode? Also, there are a ton of hidden gems out there!

I fear I might be there allready. I have always had a Livonya Silone deck. It started life as a 60 card deck around 20 years ago. Then it became a Commander deck when that came around. The art is sweet. The legendary land walk is relevant to this day. And she gives good devotion. Livonya Silone is best girl. Fight me.
Lol oof i have a Liu Bei, lord of Shu deck 😅. He’s one of my favorite characters from the dynasty warriors franchise.
There was a Kentaro deck in MtgMuddstah once. It is a combo deck.
You run all the cost reducers (cloud Key, pearl medallion etc) some samurai, some changelings.
At some point you'll be able to cast Samurai and changelings for free with Kentaro. Add a Cloudstone Curio or something to play a samurai, bounce it to your hand, play it again. Then add a wincon: altar of the brood, Aetherflux Reservoir, what have you
I think I have seen that deck before or there was an article on edhrec about it wish I had the link or bookmarked it then.
As a Zhou Yu player who just builds weird and obscure ways to win in decks this makes me happy ( :
Been thinking about Celestial Kirin for a little while, honestly. It's got 40 listed decks, which is hipster ENOUGH, and mono-white spirits (with a few actually decent arcane spells like Blessed Breath thrown in) has a few interesting tricks (most notably token generation, which will never get wiped)
Sadly, I suspect not enough to make the deck actually fun to play, and in particular no card draw that isn't going to get immediately exploded.
Don't dump too hard on Mirri; Forestwalk comes in handy more often than you would expect.
Heck, having two keywords primarily associated with white on a green creature is pretty powerful for voltron strategies, plus you can push her out quick due to her low cmc. Finally a home for Moldervine Cloak and Gigantiform!
...or you could just run Questing Beast...
So fun fact on Soramaro, as a challenge to myself I built a $50 dollar budget Soramaro monoblue voltron deck just to see if I could do it. It's not great but I managed it and in a lower power playgroup it can do some work. I almost want to pump it up and see if I can trick it out to hit its ceiling.
I thought we already did an April fools video. lol
Whelp, no hipster decks left in 3... 2... And they all have at least 10 decks.
I actually had a Mirri, Cat Warrior deck. It was pretty good, turns out a lot of people play green and for those who don't there is Yavimaya Dryad.
I was actually looking at an alexi zephyr mage deck, her effect seems legit and the art is cool.
As a Hivis of the Scale deck owner, it makes for a sick hipster dragon tribal deck.
That's really awesome to hear that the first non elder dragon to be a commander in edh still gets some love
Teroh and Kirtar are both comfortably living in my Kangee Aerie Keeper deck as part of the 99. As far as legendary birds go, they arent all that terrible.
Starke of Rath is the best mono-red hipster commander (27 decks in EDHrec). Starke is sneakily good when you equip it with Illusionist's Bracers and target something you control (preferably with indestructible) with the first activation.
mono-green spirits sounds like some fun jank though
Ayumi, the Last Visitor and Linvonya seem like it could work against a lot of decks as a voltron commander. Do a advanced search in The Gatherer for legendary lands. There are a lot on there that are staples or heavily playted that I forgot were even legendary- All of the Ixalan-transform lands, all of the OG Kamigawa/Neon Dynasty good lands, Karns Bastion, Kor Haven, Kher Keep, Inventor's Fair, Hall of the Bandit Lord, Hall of Heliod's Generosity, Flagstones, Gaia's Cradle, Geier Reach Sanitarium, etc.
I always called this Vorthos deck-building, and practiced it vigorously. I like cool vintage cards with awesome art. Sadly, those are often not the best cards.
Well, at least I can say I'm doing it on purpose and hide the fact that I can't build a good deck with good cards, anyway.
Hey my Tor Wauki Archer tribal deck is a perfectly fine meta call.
It's the only deck I can play and not become the archenemy with.
On a secondary note I can't believe Soraya the Falconer didn't make the list.

I actually built Shauku as a creatureless control deck. Yeah, she’s better in the 99 with Marsail or Necrotic Ooze, but she’s just so interesting to build around. Don’t want to lose life on your upkeep? Play some drain to counteract it, or even use Eon Hub to straight-up skip it! Want to attack with Shauku? Play lots of board wipes. Need to exile more than one thing? Umbral Mantle, Thousand-Year Elixir, Magewright’s Stone, etc. Don’t want players to keep making creatures? Try Portcullis or Ward of Bone. There are a lot of cool cards out there that make Shauku an interesting deck to build.
I may, or may not, have wanted to build a Korlash, Heir to Blackblade deck. Much less "hipster" than I thought, but I was gonna put Sima Yi, Wei Field Marshal in it. :D
How long would I have to be a patron to get a deck tech of this, but with a snow covered sub theme? Lol.

I have kuro pitlord, he has potential if you have the right cards, black mana ramp is often expansive, but if thats no problem then build a deck dedicated to massive life gain/steal then you could literally wipe the board with him and be ready to attack extream damage 9/9, as he is so big theres no pump required, just make sure you keep your life high, giving him lifelink would be a recomended option as it refills his ability to just slaghter everything, suprised he doesnt get used much these days.
As long as it has Wood Elemental it's hipster enough for me.
Oh, wow, my first deck was actually Soramaro. I have him equipment and used Meishin, the Mind Cage so that he'd be the only creature with power.
It was terrible. Though I think Soramaro isn't that bad. I could probably make a better one at this point. Though six mana for a commander is so high.
Not with enough ramp/ fixing / distractions it isn't : p
I've had a Soramaro deck for years and had plenty of success. He's a beast when you have a huge number of cards in your hand.
That awkward moment when you actually have a cantrip Purraj deck. It is jank, but it is my jank baby I found in the bulk box.
I build a Ragnar deck that focused on any keywords that aren't around anymore. Banding,flanking, phasing, vanishing, fateseal, ripple, rampage, provoke, and regenerate. I never won needless to say, but I did have a few games where I made my life total 26 before anyone got to even play a land by revealing Providence from my opening hand
I have a rashida scalebane commander deck, and can personally say it's incredible!
I fill my deck with white cycling cards until I cast dragon hunter for one white.
Then from there I'm pretty much invincible =)
Ok, I saw the thumbnail, and it reminded me that I need to buy Chandler. Probably wouldn't use it In any decks, but, I mean, you can probably guess why.
So fun fact. My first commander was actually purraj of urborg. It was my only legendary creature and I really wanted to play with my friends.

I have both a Hazezon Tamar, and a Sliver Queen deck the commander's are not Hipster enough but they only have old boarder cards in them including basic lands, that are all foil basic lands. Inducing my foil Urza's Saga Plains you can only get promo. Because Urza's Saga has no foils in it's booster packs. Bonus points if you run any Arabian Nights Mountains in any of your decks.

Myojin of Seeing Winds can actually be good if you make it a clone deck. The clones are cast from your hand so you can remove the divinity counter as they ETB. Keeping the original alive
It will be fun to check how many of those will no longer qualify as "hip enough" in the near future directly because of this video.

LOL I have a Jeska commander deck. she is actually quite great at stopping your opponents from attacking you while you shoot them in the face for more and more damage. its a super friends deck too. Can't wait for Jeska to finally get a plainswalker card later this year
With Ikoria's Mutate and ability counters a focussed deck might be able to brute-force make any of these commanders actually playable! Exciting!
I had a Puraj deck and was immediately laughed at when I asked a group if I could get in on the next game. They were like, “wtf!? Get out of here with that trash commander deck”

My endrek sahr deck is ultrabudget and 8/10 power level I tell everyone before I play that the deck is a budget combo deck as a warning I'm rarely believed and I still win when people ignore that : p

Wait hold on, Hisoka has less then five decks? How? I built my Hisoka deck a while ago and figured it was more popular than it is. At least I get to be a hipster for now until people start making decks of every commander in the video.
Edit: At the time of this update, Hisoka, Minamo Sensei has only two confirmed EDHREC decks, we’ll see how long that holds for.

I’m coming in with my Tetsuo Umezawa tribal Nicol Bolas-slayer deck. Boy is it Hip, Flavorful, and effective against Nicol Bolas the Ravager decks.
