Saw TF last week and agree with your review. Katie Brayburn's voice was soaring at times. It would be a shame if there is no cast recording and some of Elton's (and Jake Shears) songs are lost to history. Also, I kept wondering how the role of Jim Bakker would be different with the original Andrew Rannels.
To paraphrase Dorothy Kilgallen on the musical SKYSCRAPER, the Thanksgiving turkey came early this year The show was another DIANA, when it should have been an EVITA.
I saw this first preview and thought it was ok but I totally agree that book is a mess. It's so tonally confused. It wants to be a bunch of different things at once esp serious and then camp and vice versa. And none of the songs were memorable. Best thing is Katie Brayben and I wouldn't be mad if she gets nominated (I know high chance but we've had surprise noms before) Also them transferring this from a 300 seat theatre in the West End to the ~1600 seat Palace theatre was a major mistake. There was almost no buzz for this at all
Agreed that the subject matter is not appropriate or worthy of a high-priced Broadway spectacle at this time..Off-Broadway?.. Perhaps..Putting Elton’s name on the marquee is not enough these days..

how was christian borle?
@@warnegoodman He did his part. I thought he was adequate and earned his paycheck. The role is so inane, I fell bad for him having to act it.
