- This video explains the concepts of variation, deviation, and compass error. Using examples, this video also explains how to calculate the values. The concepts of true bearing, magnetic bearing, and compass bearing are also explained.

I understood this example sir. That compass error was wast because it lies in the wast of true but if compass bearing is 358 and true is 359 then the error will be 1E by rule of thumb but conceptually it should be W because compass is lie in wast of true.

Hello sir im a bit confused about the arrow where variation or deviation lies. Why is the arrow pointing to east but labeled west and same goes for the arrow pointing west why is it labeled east hope you responde

For compass error, you have to see where the compass lies with respect to the true (east or west). Is that what you mean? Then, yes:)
and similar for others. See where magnetic lies with respect to true (east or west) for variation:)

No, you cannot have negative values of C, D, or M as they are bearings.
