I've been researching several nano tanks for the past few months and have decided on that one (finally) plus a Betta fish - your videos are nice and simple, easy to follow and give all the facts without the jargon a newbie fish keeper needs. I love watching your videos. Your videos are very informative and so thorough! I have two ten gallon tanks and one five gallon Marineland Portrait tank. My betta loves his tank with the decor, moss balls, betta hammock and silk plants in the tank. He has been in this tank for two years! I make sure I give my betta a healthy diet, with a variety of pellets with no fillers, flakes, and Bug Bites .

I have my boy Dasher in a 6.5 gallon tank. He started with a 3.5 gallon tank in beginning because it's what I had. And it didn't have a lid. But now his new tank has a lid on it. And I'm a proud Betta mom he also has a heater. I'm proud of that as well! I love your Betta that you have in this video. I also have a sponge filter for him! He is one happy 😊 baby that I have.
If you're like me and prefer a rimless tank and like plants the grow out of the tank, get some floating plants. I've noticed my bettas jump way less if I have more floating plants
I had a 5 gallon tank for my betta, and it got covered in algae so quickly, and it wasnt a lot of room for him. Which really bothered me. Hes now in a 10 gallon and he loves it, I have a lot of real plants and huge hidey-holes for him (a big rock like decoration with huge holes in it, and a very long log like decoration. And a smaller log if hes feeling extra hidey) and I think it's perfect for him. He loves being in those decorations, and I think I'm going to add a bubbler to his tank since they do like to go to the top of the tank for air. He also has a tank mate, a horned snail named Sheldon (which I want to get at least two more snails, hopefully ramhorns since they also stay pretty small)
I hope youtube recommends this video to new betta owners. We all start somewhere but it's never to late to treat your betta to the things they need to live a healthy happy life!
Thank you for all the tips especially the tank. I got a leopard gecko and upgraded his tank to a 35 gallon so I had a free 10 gallon. It was super cheap to set up especially since Petco runs sales about every 2 months on aqueon brand basic tanks where they are 50% off. Bonus I work for Petco as a groomer so I got a 35 gallon for 40% off so 90% total I think the tank cost me $17. You can also find tanks at thrift stores or online. Just do what I did and safely disinfect, set it up, cycle, put some enriching things in there like rocks/wood/especially live plants. Red root floater I got on a whim and my betta loves it. He also loves every plant in the tank. I had a previous betta live for 6 years but he was in just a 5 gallon with only Java ferns and artificial plants and so far this new betta seems so much more active and his coloration is very vibrant. These nano tanks are very expensive compared to a basic 10 gallon and a 10 gallon imo doesn't take up that much more room. Light source is also often subpar that is included with nano.
I got a betta fish in the 90s when I won student of the month…it lived for 3 years in a small fish bowl…I wish I knew more in 3rd grade…Poor little fish…the one I’m about to get will be MUCH happier as I’m going to go all out.
I know this vid is older, I just happened on the channel and am going through archives. But I'd add that water quality parameters are MUCH easier to maintain in a bigger tank. Think like twice as easy in a 10g or 5g than a 2.5. And if you add floating plants it helps even more!

@Pharmaquatics well said with clear informed information two thumbs up and a sub from me, From my experience in this hobby for 25 plus years for any beginners reading this when starting out into this hobby I highly recommend using Seachem Prime and Seachem Stability when adding water to the aquarium to help it cycle more smoothly. on personal note I would hold off on buying a betta fish until your aquarium cycles first and make sure that the ph levels become more stable before you add your betta fish and have water heater set correctly I keep mine 78F-80F, and as for fresh water ph level range betta fish like to be in the 6.8 ph - 7.8 ph level so be careful with the water ph levels as betta fish can get sick more quickly when the ph levels are out these ranges as i said above.
I have the Marineland tank. What is the purpose of the blue light vs the regular light? I’ve just usually always turned it all the way off at night for my betta, but should I just leave it on blue? Is that better for plants? What's with the blue light???
i used to have biofilm in the past. it's pretty common with newly set up tanks. in my case, the biofilm subsided overtime as the tank matured! water changes can't hurt either. i have no preference on surface skimmers and don't really think they're necessary
I got my betta fish a 10 gallon tank, his name is лунный король or lunar king in English, I got a 10 gallon tank because I read that a 10 gallon is better for when you want to see their natural behaviors, my betta settled in and now he roams around his tank and swims up to the glass even if I’m across the room and he sees me move, but sometimes he gets pissy if I move too quickly close to his tank. My tank is steady in the 78-80 degree range and surprisingly the heater I’m using is meant for a 5 gallon tank, but I think it’s due to the temperature of the room, so I’ll have to keep that in check. I have 3 separate types of dry food for him, and I’m going to set up a new tank to keep live daphnia for him to eat instead of simply just fry food. I do want to add more cover for him, however he does have a total of 3 good hiding spots so far.
Hi, I have a question, I have a nice window that has sun filter through almost all day. I would like to get a betta fish with live plants, but do I need a aquarium light? Can the fish and plants live well without a aquatic light?
it's possible but it really depends on the plant. there are some plants that can grow in a dark 5 gallon bucket after being forgotten about the issue with the sun is it's inconsistent depending cloudiness of the weather, time of year, etc. an aquarium light is more consistent and well enable you to address algae if that becomes an issue

Every video says betta fish don't like currents. My betta must be an oddball. It loves to go swim directly under and through the current over and over again. Other times it likes to swim directly against the current under HOB filter. I've even seen it just go up to the current set its self on neutral and let the current just push it backwards. I got a weird one....lol
I too have an athletic betta ! mine is in a 29 gallon long , 1/2 of which is bubbly and has a bubble wall and hob filter, other half ( blocked by big tree stump ) very quiet , no movement. planted aquarium with sandy bottom and guppies, neon tetras and corys - he THROWS himself into the bubbles- ALL DAY LONG ! Some are just athletic I guess ..
Hi! I have a 2 gallon tank. My daughter is 7 and wants a tank. I have purchased prime solution and stability solution however I can't figure out how much because the bottle is based on big tanks.
You forgot the Katapa leaf/extract. I prefer dark water because it helps them calm down and there are many benefits from it unlike the clear water setup.

If you're like me and prefer a rimless tank and like plants the grow out of the tank, get some floating plants. I've noticed my bettas jump way less if I have more floating plants
Another filter I'd recommend for bettas is the Fluval Nano. The flow is gentle. Perfect for bettas.

I had a 5 gallon tank for my betta, and it got covered in algae so quickly, and it wasnt a lot of room for him. Which really bothered me. Hes now in a 10 gallon and he loves it, I have a lot of real plants and huge hidey-holes for him (a big rock like decoration with huge holes in it, and a very long log like decoration. And a smaller log if hes feeling extra hidey) and I think it's perfect for him. He loves being in those decorations, and I think I'm going to add a bubbler to his tank since they do like to go to the top of the tank for air. He also has a tank mate, a horned snail named Sheldon (which I want to get at least two more snails, hopefully ramhorns since they also stay pretty small)

Thank you for all the tips especially the tank. I got a leopard gecko and upgraded his tank to a 35 gallon so I had a free 10 gallon. It was super cheap to set up especially since Petco runs sales about every 2 months on aqueon brand basic tanks where they are 50% off. Bonus I work for Petco as a groomer so I got a 35 gallon for 40% off so 90% total I think the tank cost me $17. You can also find tanks at thrift stores or online. Just do what I did and safely disinfect, set it up, cycle, put some enriching things in there like rocks/wood/especially live plants. Red root floater I got on a whim and my betta loves it. He also loves every plant in the tank. I had a previous betta live for 6 years but he was in just a 5 gallon with only Java ferns and artificial plants and so far this new betta seems so much more active and his coloration is very vibrant.
These nano tanks are very expensive compared to a basic 10 gallon and a 10 gallon imo doesn't take up that much more room. Light source is also often subpar that is included with nano.

I got a betta fish in the 90s when I won student of the month…it lived for 3 years in a small fish bowl…I wish I knew more in 3rd grade…Poor little fish…the one I’m about to get will be MUCH happier as I’m going to go all out.

I know this vid is older, I just happened on the channel and am going through archives. But I'd add that water quality parameters are MUCH easier to maintain in a bigger tank. Think like twice as easy in a 10g or 5g than a 2.5. And if you add floating plants it helps even more!

@Pharmaquatics well said with clear informed information two thumbs up and a sub from me, From my experience in this hobby for 25 plus years for any beginners reading this when starting out into this hobby I highly recommend using Seachem Prime and Seachem Stability when adding water to the aquarium to help it cycle more smoothly. on personal note I would hold off on buying a betta fish until your aquarium cycles first and make sure that the ph levels become more stable before you add your betta fish and have water heater set correctly I keep mine 78F-80F, and as for fresh water ph level range betta fish like to be in the 6.8 ph - 7.8 ph level so be careful with the water ph levels as betta fish can get sick more quickly when the ph levels are out these ranges as i said above.

Can you do a video about biofilm? Do you have a preference of surface skimmers? How do you handle biofilm in your marine land portrait 5 gallon tank?
i used to have biofilm in the past. it's pretty common with newly set up tanks. in my case, the biofilm subsided overtime as the tank matured! water changes can't hurt either. i have no preference on surface skimmers and don't really think they're necessary

I got my betta fish a 10 gallon tank, his name is лунный король or lunar king in English, I got a 10 gallon tank because I read that a 10 gallon is better for when you want to see their natural behaviors, my betta settled in and now he roams around his tank and swims up to the glass even if I’m across the room and he sees me move, but sometimes he gets pissy if I move too quickly close to his tank. My tank is steady in the 78-80 degree range and surprisingly the heater I’m using is meant for a 5 gallon tank, but I think it’s due to the temperature of the room, so I’ll have to keep that in check. I have 3 separate types of dry food for him, and I’m going to set up a new tank to keep live daphnia for him to eat instead of simply just fry food. I do want to add more cover for him, however he does have a total of 3 good hiding spots so far.

Just do a proper cycle and add a pathos... no need to filter at all.

Hi, I have a question, I have a nice window that has sun filter through almost all day. I would like to get a betta fish with live plants, but do I need a aquarium light? Can the fish and plants live well without a aquatic light?
it's possible but it really depends on the plant. there are some plants that can grow in a dark 5 gallon bucket after being forgotten about
the issue with the sun is it's inconsistent depending cloudiness of the weather, time of year, etc. an aquarium light is more consistent and well enable you to address algae if that becomes an issue

Every video says betta fish don't like currents. My betta must be an oddball. It loves to go swim directly under and through the current over and over again. Other times it likes to swim directly against the current under HOB filter. I've even seen it just go up to the current set its self on neutral and let the current just push it backwards. I got a weird one....lol

I too have an athletic betta ! mine is in a 29 gallon long , 1/2 of which is bubbly and has a bubble wall and hob filter, other half ( blocked by big tree stump ) very quiet , no movement. planted aquarium with sandy bottom and guppies, neon tetras and corys - he THROWS himself into the bubbles- ALL DAY LONG ! Some are just athletic I guess ..

Hi! I have a 2 gallon tank. My daughter is 7 and wants a tank. I have purchased prime solution and stability solution however I can't figure out how much because the bottle is based on big tanks.
For prime dosage is 2 drops per gallon since you have 2 gal then dose 4 drops

You forgot the Katapa leaf/extract. I prefer dark water because it helps them calm down and there are many benefits from it unlike the clear water setup.
