Consistently I hear from both officer and inmate, “it’s always been this way” or “you’re the only CO to enforce this”. You can spend a shift series cleaning up the sections and restore “order” but it gets back to how it was when your relief isn’t enforcing the same standards. Attempting to have “accountability” conversations with peers comes to deaf ears when they yank “tenure” over you. It makes the job a powder keg for disaster and knee jerk responses only work for a second, once the heads turn, we’re right back to what caused the reaction.

Thank you for sharing.Thes topics are just some of the things that are sadly being overlooked. God bless in all you do. Your knowledge/dedication in informing officers is detrimental in Corrections.

Wow. Thank you. That truly carries tons of weight for me. Sometimes it’s tough to put up a video and see the low views. But it’s comments like yours that keep us motivated. I appreciate you.

Training seems to be the problem where i work. My 1st week on my own ive been in 3 units I've never even seen much less trained in. All 3 have different schedules and requirements. Ive managed but its made me question if im able to do this

Inconsistent is always a big concern. Your thoughts should be relayed to your area supervisor as well

I’m a psychiatrist nurse who is new to corrections. What interventions do u think are helpful or promotes autonomy. Also how do I raise the issue with other staffs over familiarity w billets/prisoners

@@leesalingard8585 usually before anybody decides to cross the line, the behaviors, prior are usually very subtle and barely noticeable. So usually someone with experience has to catch it (more of a feeling) and basically bring their concern to the individual. And hopefully the individual is willing to listen and learn. I can make this into a topic.

Yes sir. Nailed it. Unfortunately when you voice that stuff you kind of shunned or told we've always done it that way. It starts with immediate supervisors then branches up to where everyone needs to buy in to addressing complacency.

Some officers secretly don't want you searching their bags and want to pressure you into skipping over them. Either for their own convenience or because they have stuff they know they ought not have.

When addressing behaviors with the incarcerated. Make sure you keep the focused subject that's being addressed centered and not clouded with opuskated rhetoric.

I’ve had a couple of CO’s showing me the ropes on a couple of housing units straight out tell me why they aren’t enforcing. One of them that made me angry was blocking the windows in the cells. When the windows are blocked, we can’t see what is happening in that cell, or at least it is very difficult to see into that cell.
