I talked my mom into letting me go to his concert in ‘77-78. EVERYONE had Frampton Comes Alive. Saw him again 40 yrs later and he was fantastic. Still 😍 but with less hair.
He and David Bowie attended the same school..Frampton's father was Bowie's Art teacher..Bowie was 3 yrs. older, but Frampton was in a band at 12 (The Little Ravens), and Bowie was in his band (George and the Dragons) and they would spend lunch breaks together playing Buddy Holly songs..Bowie's real name was David Jones, but there was already an English bloke with the same name in a little band called The Monkees, so he changed it to Bowie.
This song put Frampton in the limelight and was in a way, his downfall cause he could never duplicate it's success. Still you can't deny the man's musical talent. He was a superstar in his day. Everyone I knew had the Frampton Comes Alive album. And the Midnight Special was the best thing on TV back then. Loved it when Wolfman Jack hosted it.
Eh, perhaps. He did have a real downfall. The Sgt. Peppers movie was terrible for him. The album after this sucked (with the single "I'm in you") But he was redeemed. And you know who did it? Because he went to school with his older brother? David Motherfucking Bowie. Glass Spider tour.
That’s a talk box that’s connected to his guitar through a tube which alters the sound of the guitar by the way he moves his mouth. And yes it’s freaking awesome!
Thanks for mentioning that. I feel like it should be obvious what's going on, especially given how the video production overlays his picking hand with his vocalization. But then I knew what this was back in the day so I'm biased. The important thing is appreciation for the performance.
A TalkBox isn't any kind of synthesizer. It's entirely analogue. Instead of his guitar playing out of an amp, the TalkBox is like a mini-amp that sends the sound wave down that tube you saw him put in his mouth. The guitar sounds come out of that, and he shapes them with his mouth, just like he does with the vibrations from his vocal chords. And guitar face is very much like sex face. On any instrument, if you're *really* into it, your face matches how you feel, and you could care less how it looks.

That being said, didn’t stop me from getting one to figure out how to do this after first hearing this years ago. Teeth are still intact, but also I haven’t used it pushing over 100dB through that tube into my mouth. 🤟💚💯
Frampton Comes Alive! Was the BEST live album of all time. I was 16 and the album cover was on my wall. 45 years later I saw him sing this song from the front row! He still can play!
I bought the album and did the same thing. Then he came to Mobile for a concert. Went and Gary Wright opened for him. Was great. Then Frampton came on, the whole concert sounded exactly like the album down to the the last note. We were kind of let down. It was great but we all thought we could have just stayed home and listened to it. Gary Wright was amazing though. All synths.

He was a teenage heartthrob in the band Herd then joined Steve Marriott to form Humble Pie. After five albums he left the Pie to go solo. A very storied career.
It was always considered that Frampton was a little overshadowed by Marriott (true legend) who was the lead singer and the most important member of Humble Pie . But when Frampton left the band he released this masterpiece album showing us who great of a musician he is. This album rocks .
His father was a music teacher one of his students was David Bowie. Back in the Guitar years 60’s and 70’s Frampton was one of the very best. He did had success with a band called Humble Pie early on.
You are right , Humble Pie was considered one of the first British super-bands were Frampton played guitar as a duo with Steve Marriott . But Steve lead singer was the star of the group. When Frampton left the band he deservedly achieved instant success .
I had a lifesize poster of Peter Frampton in my room in 1973! My first love looked just like him (with black hair and blue eyes) and played guitar. Peter Frampton's guitar was great! Oh, the memories! Thank you for this!

I got to see Frampton play this album on the Forth of July 1976, in Nashville. One of my all time favorite concerts! He is considered one of the guitar heroes!
I saw Peter Frampton in concert twice - once about 1978 when my husband and I were dating, and again just a few years ago. He is still just as good in concert as he was back then! And he has his son singing with him!
First concert I went to was,Peter Frampton,Rod Stewart, and Loggins and Messina when I was 10 years old I went with my older sister and her husband..........I was blown away 🤯✌️
Peter Frampton was not only a legendary guitarist but a huge hitmaker for a few years. His double album "Frampton Comes Alive" was on the charts for a long time. He sounds even better live than on his studio albums. Try "Show Me The Way" for another hit he had.

As I'm sure it's been said many times here, as a teen, or anyone who enjoyed great music, this album was a must have in your record collection in 1976. I had mine. Also it's cool watching my generations MTV, the Midnight Special where you could see all the bands you couldn't get tickets to see.
I worked 1 of his shows 15 years ago and got to meet and talk to him about playing and when we were done talking he gave me a handfull of his guitar pics to take home and play with. I never used such a small pic before, I will never forget that and still use those pics
Music, I grew up on and I love seeing other people discovering new music from the old days. Loved your reactions. Peter was a genius with the guitar and loved performing. Had the pleasure of seeing him live in Atlanta. Oh Baby I love your ways is another one of his that was a big hit.
Saw him in concert in 1976 at MSG in NYC. It was so much fun!! The crowd was super involved and interactive with him. It was nuts... like one huge party. The energy was beyond incredible! One of the best shows I was lucky to have seen! Frampton is now in his 70s and has had some health problems. What a beautiful and talented man, no matter what! ❤🎸🎵
Frampton Comes Alive sold 8 million copies the year it was released in 1975. Since then, over 20 million have been sold globally. Everyone who owned a record player back in those days, owned that live album and it still holds up to this day. That audience at the Midnight Special had no idea that Frampton was going to literally play an extended live version of his hit to close out the show. Perhaps the most legendary performance on a tv show that was defined by legendary performances.
I can tell you that Frampton was on the breeze in 1976 and you were on point with this reaction, my friends. I saw Frampton in concert in 2016 and he was Killin it on an acoustic gig. Lines on my Face, Show Me the Way, and the aforementioned Baby I Love Your Way should be on your radar. Enjoy your musical journeythrough.
don't think there was anyone out selling Peter at this time. definitely peak popularity right here. also when he was in Humble Pie with the late great Steve Marriott beautiful music what a great time it was...
I remember watching this, sitting on the floor about a foot away from the TV, one of those big old console units in the wood cabinet, with my best friend who had a huge crush on Peter Frampton. It was late, and everyone else was asleep, so we had to keep the squeals and screams to a minimum, but it was hard to do! Great times and a great era to be a teen-ager!
When this all first came out on the radio everybody thought he was actually talking with guitar only. Nobody's ever heard of this kind of music before. Rodger Troutman came out in the 80s, this was the 70s so nobody In the black community ever heard of it till Rodger Troutman came out with it again.R.I.P.
the song was that long - Frampton never had much radio play but his concerts were fire - when he released his live album with this song his career exploded
I was in High School when this album came out. When the bell would ring, all the students would get in there car, roll down their windows put their Frampton Comes Alive cassette in their radio and crank it up. You could hear this song playing through out the parking lot.
As a teenager in the 70’s being invited to a weekend party at someone’s house was the ultimate. I had just started in band as a drummer and it got around that I was cool so I was invited to one. I was 12! My younger sister listened to Shaun Cassidy, teen girls listened to Fleetwood Mac and Frampton. I remember a 14 year old Marsha Brady look alike girl named Claire who gave me my first great kiss when this song was on the turntable. Burned into my mind and makes me smile 47 years later. I still love Claire.
An even better LIVE performance on TH-cam is Frampton at the Oakland Colesium 1977. It was awesome. Also Frampton singing "OO Baby I love your way" is the bomb.
this is the era of true talent,no auto tune or computer corrected songs it was one heck of a party every where you went in the seventy's, cause in the 1970's great music was all over the world!!!!!
Ok, It's been a year, NOW do the full length version. Definitely more chill solos! No one's going to mind hearing this song again...especially the full length version. It's the best!
Peter Frampton was with Steve Marriot and Humble Pie and did a lot of session playing before his solo career. Also, the version of the song from live Album "Frampton comes Alive" was never duplicated there was magic in the air that night. The Talk Box was big.
I began listening to Peter Frampton in the early 1970s when he was with Humble Pie. In 1975 he had the biggest selling album of that time with Frampton Comes Alive. I was fortunate to see him in both 1975 and 1976 as he toured nearly three years enjoying the success of his album.
No denying Frampton is a huge talent! I love these types of videos! The format I've seen mostly falls into 2 groups. People who usually listen to hip hop / rap / R&B or people who listen to classical music. I think it would be cool if someone could turn it around and expose people who listen to Rock, classical, ect. to examples of great hip hop / rap / R&B.
I love Peter Frampton & still listen to his music. His "Frampton Comes Alive" album came out in 1976 & I graduated from high school in 1977. My favorite song of his is probably "Lines on My Face." I'm pretty sure that that album is still among of the best selling live albums ever made. Every song on it was great.
He was in band Humble Pie, went solo, career great. Then he had bad accidents, broke hands, arm, leg. Career took a hit, nobody thought he'd come back, BUT HE DID!!!🎸🎸 🎸🎸🎸❤❤❤❤👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I LOVE Peter Framptom! Takes me back to my freshman year of college when EVERYBODY had this album. I saw Framptom live in 1976 at the Oakland Coliseum and he was amazing! Surprisingly funky!
Good news you can get tickets to see Frampton live ......he is on tour now...... in Windsor Ontario this weekend March 16th 2024 and then throughout the USA. One of the best guitarists..... if not THE very best who has ever lived ... I saw him way back in 2011 in Denver. It was the highlight of my five years living in the USA. Don't miss this opportunity it may be your last.... this guy is in his seventies already and although he still going like the wind......now is the time to get tickets.... don't miss this guys he's really incredible
To be honest... I have always pretty much felt this, even back in the day..... Early, for too long, nothing to write home about.... he about loses me.... then it kicks in, more than makes up for it.......amazing.
I had the album this song was on and was given to me by my cousin in which I gave the same album in return for that Christmas, And everyone I knew had this album Frampton Comes Alive.
Best concert I have seen. 1976 touring on this album. $6 admission. He was great and all the women were mesmerized by him. Guys too, probably. Gary Wright of Dreamweaver fame opened for him and he was great too! Frampton is still performing but has a condition that makes him have to use a chair. Bless him❤
He's playing the guitar through what's called a "talk box". That's actually the original talk box. He got it from the inventor. When he stepped over to the second microphone you can see him move the white box with his foot. The box has a driver (speaker) in it. He steps on the switch on top of the box which diverts the guitar signal from the amplifier to the driver in the box, which travels up the rubber hose in his mouth. then the guitar reflects from his mouth into the microphone. The guitar he was playing is a very early Gibson Les Paul Custom professional built in 1957. Back in the day, I think in the late 1970's he was scheduled to tour South America. They shipped all of their equipment by airplane which crashed, I want to say in Aruba maybe. He of course thought the Les Paul was lost forever. Fast forward to just a handful of years ago. Someone in the know went to hear a live local band on that island and realized that the guitar player was playing that guitar. Long story short. Peter owns that guitar again. It's in bad shape but, he still plays it on stage. He originally came to fame in the band Humble Pie when he was a teenager. They had many hits but, one of the most famous was a song written buy Ashford and Simpson who wrote for Motown. They wrote the song for Ray Charles but Humble Pie made the song iconic.
Lines on my face is still my favorite summer jam!
don't think there was anyone out selling Peter at this time. definitely peak popularity right here.
also when he was in Humble Pie with the late great Steve Marriott beautiful music what a great time it was...
No vinal collection was complete without Frampton comes alive.
Still excellent today. Bald and battling neurological issues, I think, but still out there bringing the boom! Love him. ✌️🍀❤️
This guy was the biggest thing when he came out massively huge! He is incredibly talented. Thanks for playing one of his best
Saw him in the 70’s …till this day one of the best shows I’ve ever seen
An even better LIVE performance on TH-cam is Frampton at the Oakland Colesium 1977. It was awesome. Also Frampton singing "OO Baby I love your way" is the bomb.
this is the era of true talent,no auto tune or computer corrected songs it was one heck of a party every where you went in the seventy's, cause in the 1970's great music was all over the world!!!!!
Frampton did a Blues album too. He could always play. Under appreciated.
Every kid at school talkin bout the guy that made his guitar talk! Instantly famous!!!!
Genius...man is a genius...for 2-3 years in the late 70s he owned the world.
Have you reacted to Humble Pie doing Black Coffee? Killer soul! Peter was in that group too!
Will check it out
Steve Marriot was sensational. Incredibly underrated group.
I just learned that Ike Turner wrote Black Coffee for Steve.
That was totally awesome. Thanks for the video. I’ve never seen that before.
More talent in his little finger than 1/2 the artist today combined.
I'M 70 AND STILL CRANK THIS UP!!!👍🏼❤👍🏼👍🏼❤
A good portion of the Frampton Comes Alive double is recorded live at Winterland, simply epic.
Lines on my Face from Frampton comes Alive is smooth as glass one of my top 10 ever
I was 16 yrs old when this song came out ,I had the pleasure of enjoying all the great bands of the 70s in the coolest time to be a teenager
Great reaction
Frampton is one of the world's best guitar players.
Frampton always gets looked over as one of the best guitarists. He was an innovator and one bad man on the guitar. He deserves his roses
Peter Frampton always put on a good show and underrated as a guitar player
I had the album this song was on and was given to me by my cousin in which I gave the same album in return for that Christmas, And everyone I knew had this album Frampton Comes Alive.
Best concert I have seen. 1976 touring on this album. $6 admission. He was great and all the women were mesmerized by him. Guys too, probably. Gary Wright of Dreamweaver fame opened for him and he was great too! Frampton is still performing but has a condition that makes him have to use a chair. Bless him❤
Yes!! It is this long! ❤
Btw, I wouldn't be here if you already knew this music. I love to see people discover new music.
Check out "I don't need no doctor"
Great reaction fellas……Yep ! the longer version has a KILLER keyboard solo !
Thanks
And he’s still playing and making records!
I met him and he is so humble and nice. Every time I see him in concert he is always amazing.
This was my 1st Concert! I had just graduated from high school. I was almost 18yrs old... 👋😎👍
The "Frampton Comes Alive" version of this is a must-see.
