    Welcome to my Channel,
My name is James and I live full time in my tiny van, however this is not just a van life channel. I enjoy travel, food and drink and making videos 🙂
When I turned 50 I decided I’d had enough of the rat race and working long hours just to pay rent and bills, life was passing me by and I needed a drastic change.
    FAQ
    Where is Helen?
Helen has a responsible full time job and two children so unfortunately she can’t join me on every trip. I really wish she could.
    What equipment do you use?
My vlogging camera is a GoPro Hero 9 but I also use my pixel 6a phone and Lumix G80 camera for other footage
For editing, I used Premiere Pro on an old laptop but I’m saving to buy a more powerful computer.
    Do you have children?
Yes I have a 6yr old daughter who lives with her mum but I see her quite a lot. I don’t usually put her on the vlogs and if I do, I block out her face for privacy reasons. I also have a grown up son.
How do you fund your lifestyle?
I don’t need as much to live these days since going full time van life but I receive a small percentage of income from the ads that TH-cam put on the videos.
    Why the sponsored videos?
I only accept sponsorship from companies I use and trust, this is my fulltime job and my income, it’s how I support my family. (I have Patreon if you prefer videos with no ads).
    How do I contact you?
    Please contact me here: james@bythecurb.co.uk

I love the hiking videos. It gives me inspiration and ideas for future walks for myself. Having been through a tough 18 months due to my marriage breaking up and as a consequence battling depression and anxiety your TH-cam videos along with Wandering wheres vids have kept me going. .
Keep up the good work you and Helen. Look forward to seeing more hiking videos and maybe one day I'll see you on the trails.

Their videos have helped me too.
Whilst I was immobile waiting for a couple of operations and recovering I was watching videos like these and felt better for it, I need to work on getting out and about more so like you say it’s inspiring.

Lovely to watch. We used to do this sort of thing until my husband developed arthritis in his hip. As the NHS barely functions now due to this ruddy government, he can’t even get on a waiting list for treatment. So until something changes, I’ll be relying on you guys to take me hiking! Keep it up while you are able. ❤

Thanks for taking me along on that walk. I was the ghostly presence next to the two Roman Auxilliary ghosts grumbling about how cold and wet it is walking along this bloody wall where nothing exciting ever happens. Guard duty must be like being a cop... long periods of boredom occasionally relieved with moments of terror. Missed seeing Hadrian's Wall when I was in Northern England in 1973; beautiful scenery but a challenging walk!

Firstly you should check-out a book called Wainwright's Coast to coast book a well as Wainwright's Pennine Way.. The photograph's of Derry Brabbs are stunning!! I, myself, walked the Pennine Way from December , 24th, 1981 . I made it to Kirk Yetholm 16 days later - 9th of January , 1982. I was 15 years old......and wet. Just totally cold and wet. I spent the eve of the walk in a almost Summer's day Edale. It was gorgeous. From the wee, small hours at the beginning of the first day's walk it rained; hard. From start to finish it as-good-as rained. Due to my food, my rucksack, sleeping bag, tent and all my clothes being soaked I walked non-stop for a full 24 hours. ( I kid you not James and Helen ) I covered 52 miles in that period. The weird stand-out memory was a conversation I had while waiting for a coach in Kirk Yetholm. A local gave a long coverage of the travelling / gypsy community in Yetholm. ( I'm pretty sure he said that the camp site was owned by a gypsy king ). And, now , I find it quite ironic that, due to having been paralysed, I can't move one step without a mobility aid. Three walkers; seven manual wheelchairs; two electric wheelchairs; a mobility scooter; crutches and, of course, a flipping Zimmer frame. That said, I'm trying to learn to speak as well as read Korean for, some day , I'll open my eyes and realise that I'm walking along the coastline of South Korea. Hmmm. One day. Meanwhile, what a great video. And when you mentioned Tuck shops......made me smile. Made me smile a lot.

When you finished a long hike like today, get a bowl of nice warm water and add some Epsom salts. Then just sit back in comfort and soak your feet . you'll feel the difference 100%. Just give it a try.

While up in that area last April, I also thought i'd go look how they're getting on with Hadrian's Wall..., but it's still not finished.
Just the Sycamore has been removed..., I suppose that would be in the way, when they eventually do get round to finishing the build !!
I really love this part of the country especially, inland Northumberland, as well as it's largely unspoilt Coastline. Enjoy yourselves there, and take a minute to sit somewhere quiet and listen to nature, and soak up all that beauty..., NO James, not her, the countryside!

My mum used to make meat and potatoe Pastis. Way used to call um torpedoes. Spuds came from the garden and meat from the Slaughter house.

Thank you both for taking me to a place I couldn't possibly get to now due to years of a misspent youth and gallons of ale, that was brilliant. If you ever go to Shrewsbury, Carding Mill Valley is not too far away. I'm sure you'd enjoy it. Thank you.

Even your hiking videos are getting loads of views now...people just love following you both, whatever you happen to be doing in your lives...😊
Also just had to mention how Helen really gets into 'the zone' when she puts her hiking gear on...She is really on a mission! You do too James, just in a more sedate way!😊

Very interesting walk - no real sanitation of the route and no pub. If you choose to find a pub after this one you've earned it!

That was a brilliant hike, I’m gutted about that tree, an awful act of vandalism. Lovely scenery.

OMG have you also googled the Sycamore story..., "upon discovering the approx. 200 year old felled Tree in Sept. '23, it was cut up and removed by crane for storage elsewhere on National Trust property, where attempts are being made to grow saplings from it"
And here's another sad story, it was at the Robin Hood tree where Helen and James could not decide on their continuing route, so parted company, never to......,
opps..., no they didn't, the Pubs had just opened! So, with a pint in their hands, they lived happily ever after, deciding, to go find that, "very very bad man".
    Cheers!

I've never enjoyed a hike so much! The pasty waving got me. And my OCD appreciated it being exactly 1hour long.x
