Red Eyes Dark Dragoon is more of a dm card than it is red eyes. The name says red eyes, but guess which material is optional... Not dm.
Also the Japanese name of it starts with "Super Magical" which most DM fusions have.
The dark magicians should have had the effect when this card is summoned draw cards for each dark magician or dmg used to summon it

Really fun discussion!
Although nothing compares to dragoon (it’s so far and away the best option), I do feel like we as a community (I’m at fault for this all the time) tunnel vision into dragoon.
I do feel like there is a huge amount of potential in a card like master of chaos for example that could be explored a bit more.

I've been on the same wavelength re: Dragoon being overemphasized. There are match ups where he honestly feels underwhelming and the risk of playing into Triple Tactics is huge. For DM to be competitive, it can't simply be Dragoon turbo. When your entire strategy revolves around summoning a monster that other decks can summon, but choose not to because it isn't deemed good enough to warrant space in the main/extra, then you're ultimately playing a losing strategy if the goal is to beat the best decks in play.
@@fraternovaeres Still, Dragoon Turbo is a better goal/strategy than ANY OTHER DM STRAT SO FAR.
@@LOZA-DM I'm on the fence about that. If the deck was fully explored and tried, I'd be more confident in saying that, which would amount to saying that the deck simply isn't viable at all in any formulation. I'm happy to see guys like Matchie pushing the boundaries to see if there's a better way.
Fun fact The Dark Magicians and Dark can be higher because if duality with a level 8 dogmatika card to be be more used as material an additional draw by targeting one dark and light in grave and can resolve effects. You need that and Dogmatika level 8 to do this aka Dogmatika Fleurdelis the Knighted but unlike Dark Paladin Cav doesn't need to be properly fusioned to protect the board

Master of chaos is underrated. I have won so many duels by banishing my opps entire field. I know he doesn’t have protection but he’s a great card. Summoning chaos angel back, summoning the dark magicians back is OP

The DMs will always be a disappointment for me, if only for the fact that it has 2800 instead of 3000 ATK. Would have been a great reference to the final duel in the Manga.
As well as not be treated as DM and DMG while on the field or GY, would have preferred that over summoning them back.

I wanted to share that despite the meme, Dark Magic Curtain was hilariously broken in the Anime /Manga. They just nerfed it to hell and back when adapting it to the real game.
Dark Magic Curtain (Anime)
Pay half your LP; Special Summon 1 DARK Spellcaster monster from your deck.
The card came out in 2000 in the OCG. Had it remained unnerfed, you could have summoned 3 DMOCs off of it, back when that first released.
DMG is another card that got nerfed. Twice funnily enough.
In the Manga she got 500 instead of 300 ATK for each DM. None for BMoC though (not that matters). This is also the effect she has iin Rush Duels.
The Beta version of the real card had her gain 200 ATK for each Spellcaster in the GYs instead, but they changed it shortly before release.
Dark Paladin will always be the most badass and coolest looking card to me.
I know that Dragoon is sort of an upgraded version of it, but I would like it to receive a proper retrain with a Buster Blader monster that synergizes well with the DM theme.
- Make it untargetable
- Makes all your opponent's monsters dragons on the field and in the GY
- Gains 1000 Atk for every dragon in the GY and on the field
- Your opponent can't activate spell cards or their effects
That would be sick! I'd love a bunch of these fusions to get retrains
@@LOZA-DM I didn't want to go overboard but I would add another effect to my proposed retrain:
- Negate the effects of all dragon type monsters
At this point in time, DM needs these sort of absurd card effects since the engine on which it relies upon is almost 8 frickin years old.
I've seen some people say that DM needs to move away from the "Circle/ Eternal Soul" play, but the theme wouldn't be what it is without them.
I mean the whole point in the Animé is that DM will always be Atem's eternal servant in soul and spirit.
They should maybe retrain Circle and Soul to have more powerful effects, but the essence should remain the same.
@@TheCrankyTechnician I agree. Without circle and eternal we don't really have a gameplan, outside of what? Summon a vanilla and make a fusion.

With Dark Paladin I OTK once my oponnent who was playing a Mill Dragon deck with The grass looks greener card. Just for that Dark paladin will forever be S to me.

I def agree with all of the fusion placements for the list and every point you make about each is spot on. There are points and changes I can go waaay out there when it comes to DM but that would be super long so im going to try to keep it short. I wish Rods' search effect would trigger when its also special summoned it to the field. Then when its in the GY, go back to the field instead of going back to the hand. There are so many other searchers that does this now, its time DM got a slighty better searcher. A Link 1 Apprentice of Chaos Spellcaster that by destroying a light and dark monster from the deck to search any ritual spell or monster with "Chaos" in its name is definitely needed and maybe a Link 2/3 Dragon Spirit of Timaeus that searches out any DM spell/ trap or any card that has "Timaeus" in its name. As it could set up your dragon fusion on the spot and solve that horrible ruling. Also if a DM, DMG or a Fusion Monster that lists either as material is special summoned to its link points, up to twice per turn,you can either: (Quick Effect) target one card on your opponents field, they are negated, or draw one card.

The Dark Magicians is my favorite DM fusion monster. I just wish it was less costly to summon because the card in theory should be a great combo piece that helps us get to other key cards.
It just has this weird duality when you really think about it.
1) it requires so many resources that it wants to be its own boss monster but falls short of that goal since it doesn’t fill the role that boss monsters usually fill.
2) it wants to be a combo piece but requires committing most of your hands important cards to make it, thus defeating what could’ve been the cards actual purpose.
It teeters in between these two concepts and It seems like Konami doesn’t know what they want to do with it.

@@andymaldonado7687That still is a -1 combo. It’s the same thing as Rod except it can special summon in the opponents turn in the event it’s handtrapped.
It’s a small nitpick but what can help DM in the future if we get more fusion support is fusion monsters that require a generic monster (DARK, Spellcaster etc.) rather than a hard specific named monster like some earlier fusions.
It's 2024 and we still don't have a way to make dragoon knight+ esoul with 1 card combo

If they gave us a monster that Counts as Buster Blader and DM that would be crazy. Especially since Tenpai Dragons are about to take over and Buster Blader/Dark Palidan is the perfect foil to it

We need a fusion spell like branded but said “after using this card you show your oppo 12 cards (GY, Deck, banish, field that mentions DM o RED in the text, if you cant banish face down your cards”. Two other monster light attribuite and a new chaos monster. Fusion monster that mention timaeus, errata timaeus spell and link monster

Spot on list! The Dark Magicians annoys me; everything I've summoned it I go "that's all you do?" The fact it doesn't identify is just straight up disrespectful lol. Ever since the Anaconda ban; DM has been struggling. Anaconda setting up Dragoon and Soul Servant plays; the deck felt legit DM BEST DECK!

Amulet dragon, dark paladin I personally love because I just hate sky strikers. Dark cavralry is fun too, bit tricky but nice in witchcraft because I think it's common to have a full hand of spells.
Are we goin get a decklist for LEDE format since now you can play test irl? I think you can run a legit DM deck using SOL engine w/o having to replace DM entirely

You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Fusion Monsters, the turn you activate this card. You can only activate 1 "Dark Magic Fusion" per turn.
If it sounds familiar it should because i took the text of branded fusion and just replaced fallen of Albaz with DM. This is a card that has essentially been printed before. There’s no excuse. It isnt even as powerful as branded because branded has a bunch of really good toolbox targets to go into with this. We have 1 awesome target and a whole bunch of poop.

I'd really like a card like that too, but I don't think it would be enough. If all we needed was a one-card fusion, we'd already be competitive with the Branded engine or the Red-Eyes engine. I think some times people misdiagnose DM's problem as "it's too hard to summon a fusion monster." That's definitely A problem, but it's not THE problem.
It needs more restrictions IMO anything that stops other archtypes from abusing it

@@fraternovaeres i agree and disagree. There are more problems than just that, but this is the biggest issue. and a card like this wouldn’t make the deck tier 0, but this would definitely help.
Right now the best way to play pure dm in my opinion is REF, set floodgates, pass, and prey they dont have a kaiju or a super poly.

Let's say for example you have something like mirrorjade or chaos angel in your grave. You get your full value from summoning him it's not just a lethal Play also board breaker going second. I can see that coming in some situations

“The Dark Magicians” should let you treat its name like DM or DMG depending on how you summoned it. Would make it really cool for cards like Dark Burning Magic/Dark Magic Attack, that sorta thing.

It would be nice if the dark magicians doesn’t say you have to summon dm AND dmg in order for the effect to work.
So you have to play what is literally the worst card in the deck to have that effect.
Sorry but dmg is just bad. Only reasons to play the card in the deck are soul servant and this card. Personally I don’t think either are worth it.

Massive agree. The fact you have to summon both sucks. If it summoned them from banished, we could use magicalised and go into it quite efficiently
Also DMG is mostly used for the bonds package to get Dark Burning Magic for a board wipe.

Discounting how hard a card is to summon, it’s hard to say that dragoon isnt in the top 10 of the best monsters in the game. His effects are written like an 8 year old came up with them.

I feel like DM the Magical Dragon Knight is more D tier though, purely because it not only requires a vanilla Extra Deck monster for its recursion effect, but it also needs a Level 7 or higher Dragon/Warrior monster as one of the Fusion Materials. No easy way to turbo this out with Link monsters, which just makes it even more annoying to summon imo. It’d be such a fun card to use if it didn’t have such baggage

The card is not inaccessible and the same pieces you'll used to make Blader/Paladin will be the same pieces you use to make Magia Master for additional negates.

Turn 1 make dragoon
Turn 2 opponent spends all their effort killing dragoon.
Turn 3 make dragoon again. Option one is to make another, but option 2 is to reborn the dead one, and go for game.

Yeah this is literally the only reason i play him. I dont think I’ve ever actually done the OTK in real life, but I’ve revived dragoon plenty of times in the more grindy games.
