  • Being a fantastic makeup artist assistant is a great way to learn about the industry and gives you great exposure to things you won't learn anywhere else. I go over what it means to be an assistant, why it is a great learning experience and what to expect as an assistant.

    My absolute pet peeve is when people say "if you cant do _______ then you definitely can't work in this job field." I feel as if when people say that , they're just bringing that person down and making them rethink their goal of doing something they thrive to do. Everyone can fix their bad habits, or learn to adapt to changes and get the help they need to be the best worker while doing what they love to do! Spread positivity :)
    ps I love your videos so much I am a 15 y/o girl and all I do everyday is watch videos like yours that teach me to do what I want to do in my future (which is be a MUA) keep doing what you do! 💓

    i'm so thankful for you and your channel!! please keep up the wonderful videos! one video I'd love to see is one on how to price your services based on your experience, if you're certified or not, etc etc (if you're comfortable sharing that sort of advice!) your channel is super duper helpful so thank you for that ❤️

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Madi! Yes I am, I am working on a video about pricing but it is so hard because every market is different. But just know I have one I am working on!!!! Also there is no standardized curriculum for makeup artist certification, unless you need some form of formal education for licensing - that is different. In Toronto you don't need a certificate or anything like that to work as a makeup artist.

    I've learned the most from assisting others but even more from your videos! lol Keep them coming!
    Quick question: If you haven't done a video yet, would you be able to give insight on the business aspect such as LLC's, Privilege Tax License, permits, tax write off , getting your business name trade marked etc etc? TIA!

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      LOL Thank you! That is such a great idea for a video however I don't think i'm qualified to be giving out advice on that stuff! The taxes here in Canada (and Toronto) are SO different from other parts of the world and I am not in the least bit familiar with what happens anywhere else when you want to start a business. If I do come across some info that will be helpful in this respect I will make sure to let you guys know about it!

    I have so many Questions, if you are looking for someone to assist and you have being accepted , what you need to ask before you start working with the artist?. Should you need to know everything skills wise? or should you have to review with the artist the job to do before hand. What if the artist is a-hole Or there is simply no compatibility of personalities... how do you manage the situation professionally ? should you make a contract with the artist? Sorry ... a lot going on here xD, great video!!

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Haydee! Part 2 of this video will be out next week to answer some of those questions. Contracts don't happen with assistants, normally when someone is seeking out an assistant they will be aware of what your capabilities as an artist are (if not they will ask) it is your responsibility to be as honest as possible. If the artist is a jerk and you are not compatible you have to suck it up and get the job done!

    Hi Angie, I watch and re-watch your videos just about everyday (also just discovered your Blog--amazing!) and I feel like I've invested in the wrong products for my kit after seeing your advice for which products are best.
    I'm thinking about getting the RCMA V10 palette that you rave about, but the Face Atelier also looks like it would be a good option since I'm currently working with many bridal clients. Do you have one you recommend over the other? Or are they both good essentials to have?

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sarah!!! Definitely don't feel bad about what you already have! Make good use of it. I would consider both RCMA and Face Atelier as kit essentials I use them both all the time in my kit and cannot say I prefer one over the other!

    Thank you for sharing!! I want to freelance for special events and bridal. I would honestly love to assist but I'm not even sure how to go about it. How do you suggest a beginner such as myself to market myself and reach out to other artists for assisting opportunities?

    • @kryssmars
      @kryssmars 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never mind I listened again. I'm working on that now, good quality camera, solid looks that I am confident in and my own MUA social media presence separate from my personal page

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been watching your videos two days straight haha! Really useful advice and tips 🙌🏼✨💕 oh and I wanted to ask you, if I decided to take a makeup school and build my career right after it ( even it takes years and make it as a part time job for now) do i really need to assisting first? because i'm a student at uni and i dont have the time for assisting with all the project and organization i'm into. Can i still have an opportunity to build network if i don't do assisting? Thank you ily ❤️❤️

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jannice!!! I would say assist when you can, it will get you farther along much faster and it is worth it even just for the learning experience. You will build your confidence as an artist much faster as well if you assist. Thank you so much for watching!

    What do you think about using instagram for a portfolio? Would it look better to send someone a link to a website that's meant for portfolios instead of instagram?

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question Tyler! They are basically one in the same but it would be more professional to link to a site that is made for portfolios so clients can properly view your work on all platforms.

    • @tylergarcia6335

      Angie Di Battista Thanks!

    • @tylergarcia6335
      @tylergarcia6335 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Angie Di Battista Oh one more thing, I commented on one of your other videos asking about color correcting, but I'm not getting notifications for comments so I don't know if you responded to it or not, and I can't find the video because I don't remember what it was!
      Lol anyway, in that video I think you said that you mix the CC into the foundation or concealer. Do you find that that works better than applying the CC straight to the face first? And I'm assuming you would only apply the CC/foundation mix onto the parts that need it, and regular foundation on the parts that don't, right?
      That seems like kind of a dumb question now that i typed it out haha, but I just wanna make sure I understand everything lol 😂

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a dumb question! You can do it either way - mix it in or apply it before. See what works best with the products you are using!!! And my preference is to only apply CC on the parts of the face that need it!

    Hi Angie, great video so helpful! I recently had a couple different resources (agencies and muas) tell me that many makeup artists don't want to work with new assistants. Do you have any advice on how to break through that?

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got your message on IG!

  • @linaduong5897
    @linaduong5897 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    can you do a video on how we would record this on paper? For example, I am a makeup artist and will be hiring an assistant. I always give my client a contract that has all the prices, amount owing, deposit, etc.. for tax purposes or just in general.. do I have to deduct the amount I'll be paying my assistant from the total cost my client will be paying me? or how would I go about it just so I can calculate how much I've made myself. I really hope that made sense!!!

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lina! Sometimes clients will pay the assistant directly. If you need to pay your assistant you would charge your client, then your assistant would invoice you and you would pay that invoice. Hope this makes sense!

  • @elissabarretto
    @elissabarretto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Angie, have you ever tried to use Embryolisse Hydra Matte with RCMA foundation on oily skins? Does it help to control the oil or do you prefer the Mehron Skin Prep Pro spray by itself?

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have - it's a great product to control oil. The function of Skin Prep is quite different than Hydra Matte and much harder on the skin. I only use Skin Prep as a sweat control product - it's almost overkill to use it as oil control in my opinion.

    How do you go about approaching a key artist or agency through email? Just search for artists in your city and say you want to assist and attach your portfolio?? I’m near NYC so their is a lot lol

    • @AngieDiB
      @AngieDiB  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! That’s how you do it. Try to make the emails more individualized and demonstrate some knowledge of the artist’s work. Also make sure that whatever you are sending forward (website link, images etc.) are well curated and only contain your strongest work.

    I have a feeling that if someone is being harassed with emails, they're probably already blocked or immediately put in their spam folder haha
