This, is how piano should be played. The choreography of your hands and fingers is mesmerizing to me. I could watch them for hours. So many stories in every phrase, so much humility in every note, so much love... You ARE impeccable. That left hand should have been engraved in gold!!! Rest In Peace, queen!
Beautifully set, totally agree
It's true that the way her hands move is hypnotizing
I don't know the first thing about music, but when tears start streaming when you're listening to this you know you're listening to something special.
She sits amazingly still letting her hands doing the moving not herself as some can’t seem to sit still! She is elegance personified!
She's fat, so the body absorbs the reactions with less visible effect. It's similar with Sokolov. I don't mean to say something without a purpose. My point is that her technique is not unusual.
The Prelude for left hand left me speechless. Absolute beauty & mastery.
Three years after this remarkable performance, Tatiana
was stricken with a cerebral haemorrage while playing a recital of her beloved Shostakovich preludes
in San Francisco, and could not continue.
She died nine days later aged 69 in Santa
Monica, California.
"There is nothing more beautiful in art than a perfect tragedy."
(This would be a magnificent program
for a competitor at a piano competition to play during the customarily shorter
preliminary stage. Regarding this performance, the Scriabin etude for the left hand ALONE would have been worth the price of admission! No one could achieve performing at this majestic level lest God be with them!
A recital for "The Ages!")
this is so sad about Tatiana
I'd love to have her hands and the playing part of her brain , shame it can't be retrieved
Yea a sad story followed by that shite
.... but Her Music plays on and on and on ........... Beautiful.
Merci pour cet ajout
A true artist of the highest order.
I have long admired her Bach ad Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues - but this programme is a revelation! Such control of power and colour. Mesmerizing.
Magic !! One of the greatest artist of the XX century
Uncommon brlliance and musicality.
I didn’t know she could play Ravel like that! So musically deep and mesmerising!
She reminds me of myself and I write VERY intense music 😅
Absolutely mesmerizing... Such heartfelt, elegant and respectful playing... The power of music to express deep emotions... To heal... What a humble and talented pianist... A truly beautiful human being...
Pure magic in front of a rather unappreciative.audience. i would have applauded, yelled till my hands fell off and I was hoarse
I agree but this is so grandiose that she makes me forget the sleepy audience and turn up the volume to fill my soul with her music
You seem to be completely uneducated about the context of this performance.. Go figure!
This is so amazing, this playing is so beautiful, so deep and rich, I love it!
imo piano mastery and grace at it's finest. Cannot really get better than this. Everynote is intended and sound crystal clear.
Ella fu grande in tutto, Pianista, Interprete, Didatta, Maestra, Musicista, Donna...
Eroe dell'Unione Sovietica!
The greatest artist. So expressive and profound.
Amen! I come back to this moment on a regular basis.
SO full of thought and emotion and color. I've heard the Ravel so many times, but never like THIS. Gorgeous, mesmerizing.
I feel the same thing
Very exiting!
It's from the wild USSR ...
Is the same for me.

I think she is my favorite pianist of all time.
I have never heard playing Ravel so colourfully. Heads up. I am impressed.

No question.
Great teacher and great pianist!
This is a remarkable video of wonderful performance by a Soviet buried artist of great stature.
You described her playing perfectly. Her playing is magical.
that prokofiev was so surprising, immediately i said: WHAT THIS IS SO BAD NO PEDAL, but somehow she playes it so legato and personally it really surprised me and i loved it!
Beautiful! I love her playing and did not know about her before! Lovely person! More of her please!! 💞 💞
i'm at 10th listen. Not tired yet. best perfomance ever. period.
You have only to hear her touch the keys of the piano to know greatness when heard!
Come on, i NEED more of her Ravel, like every Ravel possible! There should be SOME hidden unreleased recordings, just should be.
I loved her closing the lid of the piano as if to say '' you had enough! ''
Marvelous she is all color on the keys technique is only a means to her end. nobody today can boast a palette of color, which is also her story ! Where are the artists of today who can out color her performances
.😇😇😇
An amazing survival - what an incomparable artist who inspired and co created a masterpiece of her century the opus 87 of Shostakovich.
That Ravel Une Barque Sur L'ocean made me melt.
she was 76... wow. That gives me hope! :-) Impressive and sensitive playing.
She was 66/
She died at 69y.o
Man, that Borodin brought tears to my eyes. I'm definitely a sucker for Nikolaeva, my listening changes when I listen to hear, but she really hit all the right note for me (pun intended).
Great Ravel!
Wow. Just wow. The touch! She is amazing!!!!
Really a very beautiful interpretation of Ravel. Lovely pianist!
What a fantastic pianist she was!
Iconic woman 💔💔
This is incredible - the whole of it is so beautifully realized and carried out. She would have been great in any age . What an artist!
I mean: no sane artist wants to blossom in Vladimir Vladimirovitch's poisoned Russia...

Grandissima come sempre...
Brava brava bravissima.

The left hand pieces by Scriabin are played with wonderful, dramatic freedom and a singing tone. Almost Horowitzian in style.

Pure Russian soul and truly powerful and sensitive pianist. Hear her Bach and Shostakovich!
stupendous
Important to perceive how the sound comes from her whole body.
Yea and it was a humongous body lol
So beautiful
Première note : émotion
Exquisite polyphonic playing. Thank you TH-cam for this suggestion. I'm hooked. At this point there are 36 dislikes. Is this because of the dress, the flowers. the quality of the video. . . . ???
They're from Yuja fans, never mind...
Muy buena!!!
Somptueux
Amazing! She's like powerful granny good witch. Her superpower is completely reading composers minds beyond time and space. It feels that ghosts of all the composers are inside her.
😂Yes weird feelings but that's what I get.
PianistGetsALife
right you are, beyond the normal critical appraisals, beyond a lot of things, the woman is extraordinary,
a master while in conservatory, and just ripening with age.
Alex Reik are there some video of her whilst in conservatory?
how about “genius”
that’s what men are called
Sovereign Tatiana shows that "old is the oldest"!
Unique
I don’t know why they didn’t go wild for her after the first Ravels. But I note they do warm up to her.
In Soviet Russia, Ravel plays YOU!
Espejos llenos de vacio sonoro!
Does someone know if pieces written by Tatiana Nikolayeva are available on TH-cam? I can't find any!
24:25 Is that Nikolai Lugansky?
Yes it is. He was her student.
yes, he. she was his teacher
ow he was so little!
It’s hard to fathom that he will never reach her levels of artistry, despite his outstanding talent.
