Admit it, James knew exactly what he was sending those poor Nemotodes into.
Additionally, the plastic container we keep our prepared slides inside in order to prevent them from getting dried up is full of Arthrobotrys now! Apparently some spores ended up on the wet cotton and started to grow and infest our other slides! It's like a horror movie but this time I actually enjoy watching it. 👻

@@pattheplanter The nematodes, apparently. At least some species will actually pull the Reverse card and eat the fungus.

the high contrast microscope was a very good investment
I love how Oscillatoria always exists somewhere in the footage in most of your videos
I think they deliberately put them in there for a steady size comparison, but I'm not sure on that one. They're a nice way for viewers to keep track of sizes if you ever need a scale comparison.
They are some of the most abundant plants on the planet.

This is the sole inspiration for my "fungal siren" homebrew dungeons and dragons creature. My players will surely thank you and this wonderful kind of fungus.

The fact that Hank once again makes something so great will never cease to amaze me
I've always been curious what imagery one could produce with a light field microscope. Those Lytro cameras could choose a depth of field after the fact. Which makes me wonder if one could produce an image showing a microbiome slide in complete focus, rather than rely on what the operator chooses as a focal point.
it would require multiple frames of different depth focus to compose one.this has to happen very fast to cancel any movement of the sample and those microbes move really fast.But in theory it would be amazing to accomplish it because the composed frame has depth information and could be stored as a 3d one.
@@theodorostsilikis4025 Yeah I was picturing a still image to start. Similar to those bug closeups where everything is in focus. Doing it in realtime would be a major feat for sure.
there are microfluidic devices that trap the microbes in a shallow chamber with nutrient in- and outflow. This allows them to be tracked for extended periods.
