My favorite fact about this movie is that Eminem asked Anthony Mackie things about his real life and incorporated that information into his final freestyle (going to private school, two parent household, parents having a good marriage) 😂

Funny, the guy in the beginning who you said was trash that Em was battling is his childhood friend, Proof. He is responsible for Em being able to rhyme in Detroit, at certain venues and he could rap his azz off. And yes, Em is one of the greatest of all time, hands down. I’m actually from Detroit, so 8 mile is actually a real road. I’m from 7 mile, where some of Eminem’s friends are from. My favorite Eminem songs are ‘If I Had’ and ‘Guilty Conscience’.

The first guy he was battling against (who he choked on) was his best friend irl (Proof). He was also the guy dying in the Like Toy Soldiers music video, which was released in 2005. Sadly just over a year later in 2006 Proof was shot and killed, making that song very touching. Rest in Peace Proof!!!

I heard that this movie was loosely based on Eminem's life. And this was his first movie role, so he's a natural at acting because he KILLED IT.

I’ve watched 8 Mile a dozen of times not because it is my favorite. Nor how influential Eminem’s story is very relatable to our own. But this movie taught me to how find my own individuality like how he (or his fictional character Jimmy) did.

In reference to the battle rap style, there is a genius and thoughtfulness to the style of battle rap. There is tons of prep behind it, especially back in the day. Today, u know who u going against since they build it up but back then it was on a whim whoever was in the building. So u had to onow who was on the scene and already have info to use. Its alot of work honesty.
