  • Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean are often the first cruise lines new cruisers sail, but there are many other cruise lines. In this episode, I talk with Walter from Where's Walter Travel and we break down our personal choices of which cruise line is better when it comes to Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises. This conversation is just part of a larger one that we had about cruising on the La Lido Loca Podcast. Check out the full episode using the link below.

    Princess ships have self-serve laundromats, which we greatly appreciate as we don't have to pack as many outfits.

      YES! I wish more cruise lines still had them. Disney and Princess are two of the only ones left. Especially when you're on a 14 day or longer, that self serve laundry is pretty sweet.

      Tony said “Princess is to Classical Music as Celebrity is to Jazz. You said “smooth jazz” which is considered by some as an insult. Jazz is an art form.

    • @WheresWalterTravel
      @WheresWalterTravel ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You should really enjoy Celebrity if you like Princess. I think the food is comparable between the two. Celebrity still has the absolute best bar at sea with the World Class Bar though I really did enjoy the Good Spirits Bar on Sky Princess. We've sailed Celebrity Equinox, Reflection and Solstice so far, our next one will be on the Edge Class. But yes, Princess is absolutely wonderful!

    When wifey and I started cruising without our kids (a lot of Carnival cruises), we jumped to Celebrity. I looked at Princess but was concerned that the age group would skew older (65+). We’ve been beyond happy with Celebrity and have two on the calendar now. A 10 day Med this summer and a 10 day Caribbean in Nov 2024. Maybe we’ll try Princess if the right deal comes up. Celebrity delivers extraordinary service and food without being over the top on pomp and circumstance. We’re both 54/53 and find Celebrity maps well to our age group.

    • @WheresWalterTravel
      @WheresWalterTravel ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think you'll find the Royal Class ships especially match up well with Celebrity. I think the age group on both cruise lines is pretty similar. If you're enjoying Celebrity that much you really should give Virgin Voyages a try. For me, Celebrity and VV are a very similar vibe, except the pool is tiny on VV. But the food quality is over the top on VV. Thanks for watching!

    • @muzaaaaak
      @muzaaaaak ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WheresWalterTravel I’ll have to check VV out then. I was unsure if VV does 10 day cruises. We’ve come to the point of any vacation for us has to be at least 10-14 days total. It’s just too much work to fly from California to FL ports for a cruise less than 10 days.

    • @WheresWalterTravel
      @WheresWalterTravel ปีที่แล้ว

      @@muzaaaaak No 10 day cruises yet unless you put two cruises together. Valiant Lady does 8 day itineraries during the winter season and Scarlet Lady does regular 4 and 5 day itineraries. I hear you on the longer cruises, we did 7 days on Sky Princess and it just wasn't enough. And we live in Florida! :)

      As I mentioned on the show, Princess really does have a lot of really unique itineraries. Holland America as well. But I have noticed in 2024, a lot of cruise lines are getting into very interesting itineraries. Especially Carnival expanding their Carnival Journeys. Interesting itineraries is one place where Virgin Voyages falls a little flat, they don't have the most interesting itineraries so that's more about the ship experience right now. We have been Platinum on Carnival, Gold on NCL, the unsupervised children, drunks, and occasional fights is pushing us away from Carnival. We just did our first cruise on the Celebrity Equinox a few weeks ago. We thoroughly enjoyed the ship, and our Balcony room on Deck 7 and the FOOD and Entertainment was GREAT. The only issue we had on the Equinox was that service in the main dinning room was dysfunctional every night buy one. Unusual for us, on our 10 day Exotic Southern Caribbean cruise we ate in the Buffett up on deck 14 on 4 nights and had very good relaxing dinners and enjoyed interacting with the staff up stairs. On each late dinning in the main dinning room we would show up among the first in line, and for some reason we would be among the last to receive our main courses and one evening they even failed to bring our desserts. Would we cruise Celebrity again, most definitely. We are presently planning on a Princess Cruise to give that line a try and then determine which direction we will go for future cruises but Princess has some fantastic itineraries that is pulling us that direction.

    After trying both, i definitely prefer Celebrity.
    The staff on Celebrity just seem to be friendlier and look after you better, especially during dinner. Theyre constantly filling your wine glass. I found on princess, because there was a 15 drink a day max, they waited until you ordered another glass of wine and made sure to record your medallion.
    Also on Celebrity the 2nd night, i ordered a baileys coffeer, every single night after that, our server would just bring me out one.
    We had interaction with the sommilier nightly on Celebrity but they were only available on princess if you wanted to buy a bottle of wine
    Now having said that, we're trying our first Virgin Voyages cruise this year, and cant wait.

    Tony! Thanks so much for the opportunity to chat, I had a great time! Next time I come your way and we'll chat "live in the studio." Princess vs. Celebrity is such a hard choice, so many great things about both cruise lines. We've been booking a lot of clients on both along with Virgin Voyages as folks look to expand their horizons from Royal, NCL and Carnival. I think you can really put all three cruise lines together for that 'next level' cruise experience. Of course VV takes it Adult Only and almost All Inclusive so it might be the best value for your dollar, but all three cruise lines are amazing. Again, thanks for the opportunity and we'll see you out on the Lido!

      Fabulous ship. Absolutely book a glass blowing class. THE most unique thing you can do on a cruise ship anywhere. Our favorite spot is the Solarium indoor pool, that's where you'll find us all week and then you'll find me at the World Class Bar at night. Best cocktails at sea. Have an amazing time!

    Celebrity will be our next cruise line but that is partly from having reciprocity in status with Royal Caribbean and partly for their Iceland to Boston itinerary that has me intrigued.

    Hey Tony, it’s Car..rusing day for us today ! March 25 .. San Pedro, California back to back California coastal. 14 days total. first time on a celebrity cruise the Soltice we were doing a back to back just so that we can really check it out and see what’s happening on this cruise line. It will be the 41 number Cruises for us so far. We are Princess fans because of the military extra credit on board and also us being shareholders on (CCL). Not much credit for anything as a first time cruiser on Celebrity but I will let you know my personal review when we come back on Easter Saturday …..Bon voyage.🎉❤

      We just had a client on that ship for his very first cruise and he loved it. That class of ship is so much fun and Solstice was our first introduction to Celebrity. Don't forget to try out the World Class Bar, for me it's the best bar at sea. Happy Cruising! Our next cruise starts on Easter Sunday. :)

    My husband and I were about to pay our deposit on Celebrity Edge and our travel agent offered a Princess cruise but while the Princess is less, it has add ons that we would need to be comparable to the Edge. I decided to research a bit and this video was helpful. It’s gonna be hubby’s 75th and we are smooth jazz over classical. We will stay with our Celebrity Edge decision. We might try Princess in the future. I will review the experience in 2025 when we return. Thanks.

    I was on the Sky princess in February and I agree, the main dinning room was really good! Alfredo's gave the main dinning room big competition too!! The buffet was good too but I only ate there at breakfast. The Lido deck restaurants (Slice and... salty dog???) were very so-so. Not bad but definatelly a big step down from everything else. No reason to eat there with the buffet open all day. I was also disapointed with the ice cream offer, only one flavor at a time, no soft serve... could be a lot better.

      Caribbean Princess was our very first ship for that 14-day itinerary I talk about in the full podcast. She was a fun ship. I don't know how she's going to compare to the Solstice/Equinox as both of those are beautiful resort style ships. Caribbean will probably feel a bit more like a 'traditional' cruise ship, but you should still have an amazing time.!

    Been on both lines. Heard so much about Celebrity before our first cruise with them. We were disappointed. We had a good cruise on our Celebrity cruises but we think Princes is hands down better. Our last 3 Princess cruises had the best snd most professional entertainment ever on a cruise ship. One caveat! No cruise on any of the popular cruise lies is bad!

    I like the Virgin way of paying once and getting everything for your price, I hate the added charges for everything else. I have done Princess for Alaska as I feel they are the best up there., but really like Celebrity in general. We have always had a great time with Celebrity.

    Do agree Princess has some better itineraries. Our one issue that makes us prefer Celebrity is the cabin. The Princess balcony does not have a good seating area while Celebrity does. When we are on a long cruise this makes a big difference to us

    I did a few Holland American cruises, even a RCI. This year we tried Princess on the Sky Princess, disembarking on 10 Feb. We went with the Premier package; which certainly paid for itself and was worth it. Again though, judging by Holland American standards, we found both the food and the main dining room staff lacking. The food was adequate, the staff though was very slow and inattentive. The specialty dining too was just adequate. We ate at Rudy's and ordered the deluxe seafood plate (+30 per person above the specialty charge), the lobster claws were old and rubbery - very disappointing. The Crown Grill wasn't much more impressive - extra for the surf and turf in which the turf was cold and the surf was overcooked and rubberized. The cassino was small and trying to find an attendant to order a drink was nie impossible. We also found the pre-show lines would extend into the cassino making it very crowded, especially at the craps table. Princess also needs to stop the policy of changing crews whenever people at the table start winning; it's annoying and throws off the play - but that is the intent. Wise players just cash in and walk away, but that isn't who they get their money from. On the good side the internet (Medallion Net) was incredibly fast and reliable. I enjoyed the medallion, as I never had to fumble for a card. The door to your cabin always unlocked on approach, and it made getting on and off the ship very efficient. The room attendants were awesome; ours was Edward. The bar and waiting staff were excellent, though I never got the same drink when ordering a Mint Julep; don't exactly know their recipe but I'm pretty sure coke is not part of it. As a smoker, I spent quite some time aft on deck 17, an attendant named Anthony did a stellar job seeing to everyone's needs. Princess was Okay, but we may try Celebrity next. I primarily go on cruises for good food and to be spoiled. The cuisine on Princess fell far behind Holland America and RCI while their service staff was well above the standards of both Holland America and RCI. So I guess we're still looking for that perfect fit.

      If you're enjoying Celebrity certainly give the Princess Royal Class or possibly the new class that Sun Princess will introduce. And with that mix of cruise lines in your comments, Virgin Voyages should be on your radar as well. Really fun crew, the best food at sea (and it's all included), plus really good entertainment. The tiny pool is a knock, but I'll be doing 3 VV cruises by the end of this year. :)

    Celebrity Edge. We booked a back to back while on board last year based on the Abba sing along, the DJ mixing course, the Silent Disco, the food in the Blue restaurant, the friends we made, and the cruise director.
    We did Princess to Panama; not noteworthy
    Higher class - Star Clippers and Paul Gauguin
