I've been seriously considering one of these, probably in a smaller size and probably waiting until the newly announced high power laser module comes as standard. The positive factor is the high quality construction. But on the negative side, the design concept worries me. It seems to have the worst of both worlds: the bed and completed work has to move fast in the Y axis and the gantry and tool has to move fast in the X axis. On both X and Y axles, the lead screw design must surely constrain the printing speed? Seems to me the optimal is to have the bed move on a lead screw in Z (which only has to move once per slice) and the extruder move on X and Y using a belt drive since this has to move much more and will benefit from higher speed.

Yeah, I agree with your idea of the belts. However, what they've done with the new "T" model, which I have, is made the x and y axis (which are normally belts) a higher pitch lead screw, making them faster. I've been 3d printing with it nonstop for the last 3 weeks and it is able to run the speeds from my ender 3 slicing profile with no isdues. It also hasn't had a single clog or jam or issue of any kind, and the bed sheet is really good. I was totally sceptical too, thinking that 3d printing was an afterthought, but absolutely is not. I'll have a new video out soon talking about this.

I was in the middle of making/designing my own 3d printer and I wanted it to be stable enough for simple cnc/laser addons later.
For the cnc especially you need it to be able to handle the force needed to move the drill. leadscrews are good for that, belts stretch with a bit of force so they are not suitable.
As long as you're not in a hurry, then an all in one machine of this quality is awesome.
If you want speed and/or power, this is not the way to go of course. But for simple things or hobby this is a great idea. Saves so much space and does the job.
Not the best job, but for a decent 3d printer AND a decent laser AND a decent cnc you'd pay 3x the money and need 6x the space
From what I've been able to find and see of the Snapmaker so far, I'm saving up for it and, unless I find a better option, I'm going to get it
We all can't be lucky sob's with a YT channel and get it for free LOL
