Used for the first time last weekend. Accounted for a couple of nice Bream and a Gar of all things on a tough day. I was fishing in 600mm of weedy flat, and the Saza did exactly what it should. Impressive little jerk bait. To me this was the shallow water lure we needed down here!
Thanks for the awesome intro into this great lure. Picked up some pointers required for next time.

Always grateful for behind the scenes access. It's a great compliment to Daiwa's team that most people want them to have a go at one of the existing legendary concepts (like the bent minnow or a crab), naturally with the expectation that Tom & co will do the best possible job for the Australian conditions, as that's what we've come to expect. While we'd of course welcome that, I would like to see something revolutionary, a completely new thing like what the muss or cranka crab were when they came out. I know these types of ideas are few and far between, but here's hoping. In the meantime, my vote goes to a crab. On a different note, if they have a go at a bent minnow type lure, they should call it ' underdog'

Tommy Slater is kicking the ball over the fence.
An easy one for Daiwa would be to do a Steez Buzzbait, they already have the Chatterbait and the Spinnerbaits. It’s a logical extension. Buzzbaits are booming in popularity and there is a very limited amount of variety in the Australian market.
Personally though - I’d love to see them start to dabble in some bigger stuff for Cod/Barra etc. Shimano have released some nice swimbaits recently and I’d be excited to see Daiwa get creative with this market.

Really loving the daiwa range mate and all the new lures they are coming out with... Would love to see a shallow twitch bait perhaps similar to the Sazanami but in a smaller profile. Maybe around that 40-45mm mark..... would be great as a jellybean offering for the timid black bream but also cross over for yellows and be excellent to fish boat hulls and jetties when the bream are high in the water column.

Great content as usual byron, we are used to your insights into the products when you test them but being able to ask informed questions to the designers to extract that critical information is taking it to the next level. Super informative, I really enjoyed it.
I’d like to see them make a worm style soft plastic, there is a worm that lives in the mud in the bay which is candy to most species, if they developed something more durable than the turtle back worm with a similar action you would only need one lure for the rest of your life 😂

I'd like a Sazanami in a smaller 40ish for gar and tommies when they are in the shallows, it'd also be useful for shallow yellowfin whiting. The 48 DC kinda works but it goes too deep unless you're keeping the rod tip very high and it *needs* a boney colour like the larger models.

Really enjoyed the insights from Slats, paired with your commentary as a tester. Provides a great overall picture. Lure fills a much needed gap from Diawa, but I'd love to see them re-release the smaller (40mm from memory) Gekkabijin Yogiri, in both shallow and deep. Perfect "jelly bean" presentation in the twitch bait range!

Another great review Byron! Good to see you able to sneak in a fish or two in the States too mate. I'd like to see Daiwa bring back an oldie like the jointed minnow, but try some new stuff for really (really!) big bream like a 55 - 65mm jointed swimbait. A 'blooper' style popper (something more aggressive than the slippery dog), skittering prawn and small stick minnow would round out the topwater options too.

I really enjoyed the product team interview as to understand the design and purpose of the lure better. This gives me much better insight on the types of lure, when to use and how the action is designed. What I want to see more from Daiwa lure probably the soft vibes that can be as light as 7 or 10grams to something a bit heavier. At times, I use them on deeper water and has been successful to entice the fish to bite, esp during winter time. Somehow for me, the result is much better compared to the metal vibes.

Awesome clip Byron-! I've only really started fishing jerk minnows (DC48s because of your clip!) and was surprised with how deep it goes! About 15 years ago I was throwing a small minnow, slim profile, about 35mm lure, that caught me a lot of bream! Another one of those would be sweet! For another idea, if bait junkie did a smaller fluke style minnow like the old squidgy flickbaits, they'd be on a winner!

Thanks for the video, had some good luck on the Adel black gold for flathead in the local creek. Far better flathead to weed ratio compared to the double clutch black and gold. For a new lure maybe it's time to reintroduce the live'n cicada or some other top water cicada. If we have to put up with the noise of cicadas we may as well benefit flicking them for bream and bass

I can't wait to give these a swim down in Tassie... Personally, I'd love to see how Daiwa would approach something like a bent minnow style lure - a wounded prawn/baitfish kind of lure. I know they're already doing topwater lures, but something that blurs the line between topwater and just a couple of inches below it would be great. Plus there's nothing like seeing a big fish nail a shallow bait!

    Hi Byron,
I haven’t graduated to jerk baits as yet, but I took a handful of my bream lures trout fishing and found they all ran too deep for the river we were on.
I’d definitely appreciate a shallow runner like the sazanami.
    Cheers

Sick to see you catching some fish over in the states mate… must be weird throwing lures into the water with very little idea what could possibly come out… I reckon it would be sick to see daiwa make a range of light tackle stickbaits and poppers. Id love to see daiwa punch out the 75sp range but in 2.5m - 3.0m depth. Perfect size for barra, jacks and sooty grunter up here in far north qld. Most lure companies like Jackall, Samaki, Jackson jester, etc, all have this range in their line up but none can compete with the colour range that daiwa produces......except for maybe Jackall. Massive daiwa fan, so it would be nice to see this happen

I would absolutely love to see them re-release the jointed DR Minnow. I dont think Diawa Aust pay enough attention to the trout market. Highlighted by the lack of trout colour schemes, and when you mentioned this lure for trout, Tom sorta paused like it wasnt even a consideration. No dis, just an observation. And the DR Minnow was one of the most popular stream trout lures on the market. Hope you are enjoying the US!
