  • Masjid-Al-Aman is a mosque that sits near the border of Queens and Brooklyn in East New York, and offers prayers five times a day. But some residents say the mosque's azan, or call to prayer, is a nuisance-neighbors have filed 156 noise complaints against Masjid-Al-Aman.

    Azan is an integral part of islam. Islam does not mandate the use of loudspeakers for Azan. In fact, the loudspeakers are less than a century old. Islam has been in existence for 1400 years.

    America needs to follow Italy's stance on Islam. America is not an Islamic country. You have all these mosques and speakers in Muslim countries because it's part of the government, and they want you to submit to them at all times. You know you have to pray a certain number of times a day and you've been doing the same for years. You don't need a speaker to tell you when to come pray. If you're gonna bring it over here, respect the cultural norms surrounding Islam and find a way to make it work. Islam is not accepted by most Americans, nor should it. It goes against the core values and beliefs we have as Americans. By the way I'll say the same about all religion, islamic or christian. It corrupts you as a person and doesn't allow you to experience true freedom and personal gain. Christians don't go to the middle east and demand respect and start building churches. Number one it's illegal, and number two they know it doesn't belong or work over there. If you people want to tell other religions what they can and cannot do or how legitimate they are, other religions can do the same to you.

    There's a simple solution: get rid of the loudspeakers. For most of Islamic history, the azan (call to prayer) was no louder than the human voice permitted. The use of loudspeakers in mosques to blast out the azan is a recent innovation that just tends to cause noise problems.
    The video reports that 156 neighbors filed a noise complaint. Unfortunately instead of recognizing that they have a valid concern, the mosque representative chose to insult them by insinuating that they just don't understand Islam when he said, "It doesn't disturb anybody if you listen to it and you know the meaning of it." Even the most beautiful chant or musical tune WILL disturb a lot of people if it is blasted out of loudspeakers five times a day, beginning around 5 am in the summer months. Insulting the mosque's neighbors like this doesn't build friendly community relations.

    It’s also our right to not hear it. Freedom from religion

    • @ladyfallon
      @ladyfallon ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As a Muslim, I agree with you on this. This call to prayer shouldn't be so loud that it's radiating that far away.
      On the other hand, it's also my right to NOT have to hear Christmas music every year, at practically every store I go to, right? It's not even stores; it's at Disneyland, it's at major theme parks, it's at doctor's offices. Does freedom from religion apply to everyone, or just your religion? Christmas music isn't even played just on Christmas anymore; literally, the entire month of December, it's played. And entire month of music, for a single day's holiday. Now, I understand some Christmas music is "cute," and is about Santa & Rudolph, etc., but they still slip in the religious songs too, like "Away in a Manager," "Oh Holy Night," "Silent Night," and more.
      Muslims have holidays too. In fact, one of our holidays actually does last an entire month (Ramadan). But we don't have music playing for any of our holidays, anywhere.
      There may be some people that respond, "If you don't like hearing Christmas music, then don't go to the stores, or the doctor's office, or any public building for the entire month of December." Is that really realistic or logical though? Because if THAT is your solution, then the same logic could apply to the complaint in this video; "if you don't like hearing the Islamic call to prayer, then don't go near the building." See how unrealistic (and unfair) that sounds?
      Another argument people like to use is that, "This country was founded as a Christian nation." That's actually not historically correct. The first 13 colonies belonged to the British Empire, and their king presided over an imperial church (meaning, the British people living in those 13 colonies were living under Christian rule). BUT, when American actually broke awake and declared independence from the British Monarchy, they also declared independence from the church as well. Thomas Jefferson supported religious freedom and wrote, "(I)t does me no injury for my neighbor to believe in twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." This quote can be found in any credible historical document.
      Oh, fun fact: The Founder Father's of America were very familiar with Islam and the Quran. Thomas Jefferson owned a Quran, which he ordered & studied in 1765 when he was a law student, so 11 years before writing the Declaration of Independence. He quoted multiple religious books, including the Quran, Bible, & Torah. And, if there was an aspect of these religions he disagreed with (which he openly disagreed with all, but specifically in regards to Catholicism & Judaism), he still insisted that these individuals have equal civil rights & that people of all faiths were to have protected religious liberty & rights in the United States (not just Christian's, as you see).
      Thomas Jefferson's personal Quran still survives today, in the Library of Congress.

    • @chrisitzsimple4649
      @chrisitzsimple4649 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ladyfallon Thomas Jefferson fought a war against muslims after being sworn in. A religion based on supremacism, whose holy book not only condoned but mandated violence against unbelievers was unacceptable to him. His greatest fear was that someday this brand of Islam would return and pose an even greater threat to the United States.

      The majority of Muslim's are Sunni Muslim's, including myself. Sunni Muslim's make up 85-90% of all Muslim's. However, Iranian Muslim's, according to recent data (and a long know knowledge in the world of Islam), are approximately 90% Shīa Muslim's. Overall, Shīa Muslim's make up only 10-15% percent of all Muslim's in the world.

    Especially when daily 1st prayer fajr blares out as early as 3:35AM in warmer months.
    Believers can set their own watch, or phone alarm.
    Buy a hazan clock with the wake-up call, there’s many inexpensive kinds sold.
    Or the imam can send an auto-dial call to member’s phones/house.
    Ask your co-believer to knock on the door, or ring your doorbell.
    Hazan call is not mandated in the Koran, and especially not electronically amplified by public loudspeaker. The convenience for few is a big unwanted intrusion and nuisance for the many more.

      No one complains about it and it’s COMPLETELY unnecessary in my opinion. its not about religion of course but its definitely about tolerance of a religion different from your own. you don’t see youtube videos complaining about church bells. I didn’t disagree with his point about the volume but for him to say its an “unwanted intrusion and nuisance” is disrespectful. you have to think logically about why people suddenly have a problem with places of worship making loud noises. to each their own though.

    There is a mosque in Erie pa that sits really close to hamot hospital and is surrounded by annoyed residents. The hospital and the neighborhood residents both have filed multiple complaints against the excessive loudness of the call to prayer the mosques broadcasts throughout the neighborhood, especially the hospital which has patients that needs thier rest to heal. After those multiple complaints, and the mosque refusing to take any considerations for thier neighbors or the hospital patients, the mosque was ordered a year and a half ago to stop broadcasting the call to prayer permenently. It was getting annoying to everybody, cause you could hear it 10 city blocks away, it was ridiculus.

    The people of this Mosque have got their priories all messed up. It doesn't matter what the "Adhan" means or if you or us feel that it is beautiful and clearly it is a beautiful call and reminder but our neighbours have rights over us. Once these people realise the rights of the neighbour it is only then they will be successful. Not everyone at 6am wasnt's to be woken up, it depends how truthful the complaints are as well. As for the residents or attendees of this Mosque being interviewed. I don't think it helps to interview random uncles who can't even speak English properly. Please speak to the Mosque board or the Imam, if the Imam isn't able to speak English properly then it is a great shame on the Mosque board that they would hire someone to lead the prayers of the Mosque yet he is not able to relate and lead the congregation. The rights of neighbours is a major point in Islam. I would like to know how many times the people from the Mosque have visited the neighbours of the Mosque to ask how they are? To ask about their health/life etc. As humans let alone Muslims we need to help one another. Life can get difficult at times, it is not to reach out.

    in Dearborn MI in the late 1960s, a former community center across from the Ford Rouge steel plant was purchased by a local Mohammedan group, who coverted it into a mosque, put up a tower, and broadcast the call to prayer at about 90 decibels, the same sound level as a speeding freight train. The community banded together and sued the mosque for the nuisance, this went all the way to the US Supreme Court, where the community lost under freedom of religion grounds. That ship has already sailed.

    North Herts District Council was 'legally obliged' to investigate effect of St Mary's Church's bells ringing after receiving 12 complaints
    Found noise every 15 minutes for last 117 years to be damaging to health
    Committee ruled they must not be tolled between 11pm and 6am
    Save The Bells campaign group has vowed to overturn the decision
    Phoenix, Ariz., Sep 6, 2009 / 04:23 am (CNA).- Three churches have filed a lawsuit against the city of Phoenix, charging that its noise ordinance which prohibits the ringing of their church bells is unconstitutional and suppresses a long American tradition. One pastor was sentenced to jail for violating the ordinance, which allows an exception for ice cream trucks but not for churches.
