Great reaction. This is definitely a song that leans a long way towards the pop end of the BABYMETAL sliding scale, further than most I'd say. However, this was the studio audio and I have read the live version is ... different. We can only wait for the DVD to hear the live audio and see how much different of course. This album, concept aside, is highlighting Su-metal's vocals more than anything and possibly more than has been the case in the previous albums - they each had maybe three or four songs that really did that, this one so far every song has done it. I think, you are right, Su has developed a really nice, controlled vibrato that she didn't use so much in the past, but it suits these new songs. There will be one more song released before the album ... I am guessing it will be 'The Legend'.
Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 Hey John, glad to see you're back with more BM songs and enjoying this new BM sound not so many people are getting what is all about and they're complaining about not being so heavy and whatnot. For me L&D is another great pop rock ballad with beautiful SuMetal vocals piercing into our hearts. Love the J-pop sound from 2000 and the nostalgic vibes mixed with the edm sound. Here's some official info about this song: "One of the discovered 10 parallel worlds is "LIGHT AND DARKNESS" and this 4th pre-release digital single “Light and Darkness” centers around this theme. Because light exists, darkness also exists. And because darkness is present, there is also a world that shines. During the night when light and darkness intersect, what we seek after poisoned with darkness awaits a world filled with strong love. As the door opens, is it hope or despair that awaits us? The song expresses the duality in everything and the way things are perceived and interpreted differ depending on each person’s point of view." This was a world premiere at Makuhari Messe 2023 setlist, along with "THE LEGEND" (maybe the next single), Momoko Okazaki is the third backup dancer performing here and possibly the new official member. MoaMetal once again adding the backing vocals and all of them dancing with the full trio formation. Here's the lyrics translated with some help. Thanks for sharing this. See you next time 🦊🤘🔥 Lyrics : MK-METAL / TAKEMETAL Music : TAKEMETAL Arrangement : tatsuoMETAL [Lyrics] Even the reality buried in the snow of sadness Even these hands that have been dyed red by mistakes Take me to oblivion To an ideal world filled with love Open that door Come on Ah, Ah Being poisoned, falling into a dream A night where light and darkness seek and play together Drowning in a sea of rhythm Even my memories are being destroyed This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go Let me out. Let me out. let's jump out hit by the rain of joy Let me go. Let me go. Right now Let's dance the night away Take me to oblivion Take off the mask filled with lies Right now Being poisoned, falling into a dream A night where light and darkness seek and play together Drowning in a sea of rhythm Even my memories are being destroyed This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go In the night when sorrow overflows Keep this love warm Open the door now Come on Ah, Ah Even my dreams are poisoned A night where hope and despair seek and play together Ring out forever Even my heart is filled This love is strong and strong I'm sure it won't stop This love is strong and strong Never let go
excellent content John-Metal, you are absolutely correct, she is an awesome vocalist, and at just 25 years old, she has more to show us, maybe even on the new album dropping on March 24th.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 As an eyewitness of this performance at the venue, I guarantee that the live audio with Kami Band has more power and heaviness to stir your feelings. I assume Amuse is currently releasing MVs with live footage + studio sound, in other words "imperfect live video", on purpose, because they have to block their "real live videos" by copyright strike in order to sell them in a form of Blu-ray/DVD. After some two-year long hiatus, this is a good tool to remind people of the attractiveness of BABYMETAL and gain new fans, I believe. High and low undulation of Su's voice with maturity and sharp moves by Moa and Momoko disordered my emotions 😱. Although I was too mesmerized to digest everything at the live debut, I finally grasped its artistry as a whole by this MV. I am looking forward to seeing the live performance of this song again in two-day shows on April 1/2, yes I have the tickets ヽ(^o^)丿
You never heard them doing electronic stuff because you haven't delved much in their early works :D Try: - "Iine" official MV (from first album) - "Uki Uki Midnight" live at Budokan 2014 (from first album) - "From Dusk Till Dawn" live at Budokan 2021 (from second album)
While Su- has been known for being able to deliver a strong pure belt sans vibrato, she has used vibrato frequently since it started to develop in her voice around age 14. I wonder if people miss hearing it because it was so narrow and subtle. It has widened some but to my ear very sweetly so. She used a lot of vibrato in the 2013 song Megitsune as she was encouraged to put Enka stylings on the performance.
Nice reaction. Some folks are ready for full on heavy metal all the time. Others need to take Babymetal steps. One of the things they wanted to do when they started was to have a place for those just starting out in their metal journey. Like they were when they started Babymetal. especially for young ladies. This song for me goes to show they haven't forgotten that idea. And are still trying to provide a starting place for them. Job well done. I think this song will bring in new fans. And then we know what happens next. The fall down the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music. Soon those same folks who never listened to metal before. Will be singing at the top of their lungs Road of Resistance and Headbanger. Other may just want chocolate. weirdos. lol
Another great babymetal reaction!! I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you for all of your reactions, not just to babymetal. I love the wide variety of artists that you react to. It's like there's a little something for everyone!
Will not get any complaints from me featuring Su's vocals more . I love every aspect of BabyMetal, but Su's vocals and charisma are the hook that drew me into BabyMetal and kept me a fan . The different ways and tones she sings in this song are just incredible, and when she goes into that quite softly sung part ❤ 😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
Totally, the way she weaves in and out with the vibrato, picking her moments to use it, or to keep that piercingly clean tone to punch through is a masterclass in adding depth and power to a song only by varying your technique.
I'm totally with you on the vibrato! In the past Su has used very little vibrato, so I'm glad it turns out that when she does it, it sounds great. The biggest reason why I don't get much into other Japanese female fronted bands is that they tend to use a very fast and wide vibrato on almost every note that's held longer than a millisecond. I guess that's rooted in traditional Japanese music, but I absolutely can't stand it.
IMO "The Other One" is is a transitional era and the songs are designed for Su to stretch her vocals and Moa provide her soft sweet voice. "Light and Darkness" is a perfect example of this. On Fox Day a new era will begin (there are numerous hints this will happen). One strong hint is the double "OO" in "TOO" melds into a single "O" announcing the start of a new era. As most expect a third permanent member will be named. I suspect Koba has already developed new music for the next era, perhaps preparing for a new album after "The Other One." The two Fox Day Lives are "Black" and "Clear" In interviews, they say the era will end and all we become "clear." During the Live series with Sabaton, and one-man Lives in the Asian/Australian tour, I expect more unreleased material will be debuted.
I absolutely agree with you, Su’s voice is getting better and better. As for electronic stuff in their music, check out “Iine” (the official mv for the lulz) or “From Dusk Till Dawn” (live at Budokan 2021). You can than me later xd. Tbh I didn’t hear much vibrato in Su’s voice which I like because it makes her voice stand out crystal clear. “Light and Darkness “ is defo more on the jpop side but still has that nice guitar riff underneath and the piano together with the drums make the song sound really good to me. 🤘🔥🦊

[Lyrics]
Even the reality buried in the snow of sadness
Even these hands that have been dyed red by mistakes
Take me to oblivion
To an ideal world filled with love
Open that door
Come on Ah, Ah
Being poisoned, falling into a dream
A night where light and darkness seek and play together
Drowning in a sea of rhythm
Even my memories are being destroyed
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
Let me out. Let me out.
let's jump out
hit by the rain of joy
Let me go. Let me go.
Right now
Let's dance the night away
Take me to oblivion
Take off the mask filled with lies
Right now
Being poisoned, falling into a dream
A night where light and darkness seek and play together
Drowning in a sea of rhythm
Even my memories are being destroyed
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
In the night when sorrow overflows
Keep this love warm
Open the door now
Come on Ah, Ah
Even my dreams are poisoned
A night where hope and despair seek and play together
Ring out forever
Even my heart is filled
This love is strong and strong
I'm sure it won't stop
This love is strong and strong
Never let go
Grown up Su has a much richer vocal style. More vibrato than we saw in her younger self. A lot more lower range. Just more life in her voice now.
