      @@rumblefish9 Where is the statistics for all period products? Cups are safer than regular tampon and pads. It's also environment and budget friendly, buy one and it lasts for a long time. Same goes with cloth pads.
      Instead of dumping our planet with disposable, single-use tampons, pads, toilet paper, and wipes, please consider healthier options for yourself and the environment.

      @@bumpet4017 I agree with you re: the environmental effects of a cup vs tampons. But any foreign material inside the body can be a medium to harbor bacteria. But it’s actually safer to use a tampon and change it often than a menstrual cup that you only wipe down and re-insert in your body cavity.
      If you were to go to a doctor’s office; would you rather they use a brand new tool to poke and prod you or an old one that’s been wiped down?

      It's because she has fantastic muscle strength, good fitting prosthetic socket, suspension method, alignment and appropriate foot for her activity level. It's certainly very impressive to see! Her prosthetist has done a fantastic job!

    • @29Coxy
      @29Coxy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +106

      A good illustration of a poor prosthetic fit and alignment was in the clip of her on the catwalk with only her right leg amputated. Her knee was thrusting outwards and she was walking horribly. That's due to the poor suspension of the leg (which she mentioned how it felt like it was going to fall off) and poor prosthetic alignment. The alignment may have been ok for everyday walking but when doing a catwalk models will step further inwards to enhance the hip movement. In simple terms, this shifts her weight line to a point where her muscles can no longer control causing the knee to thrust outwards. This can be easily fixed by simply changing the alignment

    I know it sounds odd, but those golden legs suit her. She looks strong, proud and even like a superhero. She is beautiful with a spirit I can't even imagine. So consider all that along with this comment. How about someone (designer/corp/whatever) makes her clear acrylic legs? If the joints or connections must be another material, paint that material silver or maybe gold. I was trying to think of a way so that she showcases the clothes on a catwalk without the golden legs overpowering (ironic yes?) the outfit. In any event this woman is more of a MODEL than a model. Thank you Vogue and Lauren Wasser for sharing!

      You do go through manstration, though. While it's obviously not the exact same thing (no....you know... expelling of...stuff..) men also experience cyclic hormonal peaks and valleys throughout the month.
      As far as what I've read, depending on your natural testosterone levels, you may not even notice, or you may have extreme mood swings during certain times of the month. This is one of the reasons why people who take steroids and testosterone treatments become so emotional, and experience 'roid rage. Hormonal treatments of any kind can affect a person this way.
      A good way to track this, is to use your phone, a calendar, or a diary. At the end of each day, quickly jot down how you felt that day. If you're consistent, after a few months you'll start to see patterns, and then you can sort of predict when your hormonal ups and downs are going to happen. Like women, some men are like clockwork, and others have completely unpredictable cycles.
      Again, I'm not a doctor or an expert, but I've read up on it, and noticed it in men I've lived with. Whether it's a long-term partner, a roommate, friend, or my Dad. Unless it's been debunked since my own lazy research, that is, but as I said before, I've totally noticed it in the men in my life.

    On another note, it blows my mind how there is no transparency when it comes to feminine hygiene products. The chemicals and toxins they use on them that we put inside our bodies on a regular basis.....And how we only have a handful of choices when it comes to types of products we can use for our periods.
    There should be more research on TSS as well as women’s health in general and more awareness.

      It just irked me a lil teeny tiny bit because when I read it, my head processed that line as 'we deserve better because we are women'. I mean we do, though in fact every humans do. But I guess I was just sensitive to that line because I like to think of people objectively as a whole, not because I'm a man or a woman, but because I'm a person. So if it were me, I'd rather use the word *consumers, buyers, customers, or purchasers* (but it's just me though).

      @@rasheesyed8834 hi! Just wanted to tell you that to disabled people, “differently abled” is actually a bit offensive. The word disabled shouldn’t come with bad connotations, just as the word abled shouldn’t come with bad connotations. Using various euphemisms for someone’s state of existence implies that to be disabled is a bad thing. I know you didn’t mean it that way and you aren’t doing any harm, I just wanted to tell you for the future!

    Lady Golden Legs.
    The 'joy de vivre' and confidence she radiates bedazzles me, I've never seen this on people with disabilities. That's the whole point... She doesn't live with this that way, while a lot of people (including myself) live with a mindset of what we can't do, what we don't have, what should have been and so on and so on. What an inspiring lady this is!

    I never got why they alway make prosthetics look so weird and creepy. Like with glasses they should make then fashionable and cool looking.
    An amputee kid could get an ironman looking leg or some cartoon theme that they like.
    You could get a cool looking nike leg or Hugo Boss or whatever design company you like. Of course there isn’t a big market for it so it probably won’t happen.

    • @NotAnotherKuromi
      @NotAnotherKuromi 6 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      If you have money you can get disability aids with cool designs. Some people send them to people who paint cars as there are so few specialists, plus then the art lasts for longer. With 3d printing they are working in making cool looking prosthetics that are a better price.
      When I became disabled I was surprised how most metal equipment was grey & supports on your body are an odd beige colour- I am pretty sure no human is actually that skin shade.
      Considering we have an aging population & there are a lot of disabled people, there really is a market for stylish disability aids, they just need to be an achievable price.

      It's the cost, prosthetics are just stupidly expensive. It's like 20 to 70k for a hand prosthetic, mind you, not included the parts you need to replace every other month (which are also expensive, like like 500-1000 for a rubber joint fitting). What's worse, you probably need a new prosthetic every other years because of the wear and tear.
      Oh, if you have model parents and are a model yourself, sure golden prosthetics are an option.

    • @dragonlie
      @dragonlie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It exists, just a very small marked for outer shells that can be attached to the prosthetic to give it unique looks. Saw a kick starter about it some years ago. But for most if they do it, it wouldn't be a full-time business, more like a side thing along with other products when it comes to 3D printing soft/light weight shell printing. Some people also enjoy the metal/hook/rod/fake hand/fot look as it gives them attention and can joke with it.

    • @29Coxy
      @29Coxy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Majority of amputees are elderly or feel a societal stigma of being an amputee, so they request their prosthetic leg look as cosmetically 'normal' as possible.
      It's surprisingly easy and cheap to change the colour of the prosthetic socket. You can add a different coloured pigment to the resin to make a solid colour (gold) or provide a t-shirt/material with a cool design (iron man, a football jersey, nike top, graffiti etc) that then gets embedded into the resin of the socket. They always come out looking awesome!
      You can also get clip on design attachments that are 3D printed to create the shape of your calf instead of just the pylon/pole or a foam covering. But they can be $500-1500 and aren't usually covered by standard funding agencies.
