Unlike most NRC students, Deuce seems more open to the concept of friendship, but this may be another glimpse into his miscreant past. In his vignette from the first Halloween event, some past acquaintances show up, intent on causing trouble, and try to rope Deuce into their shenanigans. He doesn’t refer to them as friends, but they address him as though they were once close.
Tie that in with the fact that in the Playful Land event Deuce thought it was perfectly normal to skip school-to the point that he even invited Riddle-it’s likely that bad influences led him to unsavoury actions, using him as an enforcer and a fall guy.
In his Starsending SSR he states that his old pals used to make fun of him for his close relationship with his mother; this undoubtedly straining their relationship and making him more susceptible to their peer pressure. He also mentions that, in the past, he’d been accused of things he had nothing to do with-now I’m just referencing YuYu Hakusho, but there is a scene where some school kids use Yusuke’s name to scare off some other students, Yusuke uses this to get a cut of their ill-gotten-gains, but Deuce was likely unaware if such things went on.
Now he seems to be more discerning when picking his friends, and more expressive when he feels that something isn’t right.

I'm convinced Ace is allergic to friendship (especially early game) considering the number of times he's just brushed off or straight-up denied the fact when someone brings up how close he is with the other first-years lol

I feel like... You know how you would never admit you actually like or love your siblings, but also if someone else talked about them badly you would smack the living lights out of them? I always feel like Ace acts like that to those he cares about. At time taking it too far on the teasing.
Deuce though is an old child of a single mother. I think that can really affect one's views on friendship. I might be stretching here, but I think their family life still has a massive effect on their friendship style for better or worse

@@ah57588 I mean yes, I suppose (depends what your siblings are like, I don't have any so I wouldn't know but my mum's six siblings are barely in touch). But we also don't know anything about Ace's life before NRC aside from who's in his family and that he had a girlfriend in middle school...who he didn't exactly click with. We don't know the dynamic he has with his hometown friends, or his parents outside his dad taught him and his brother card tricks and that he clearly idolises his brother a whole lot. As for Deuce, we had his entire background explained to us almost right from the get-go. While Ace HAS improved (as I said, he was very reluctant early-game), he still has plenty of moments where he goes too far. I'm hoping that his dream coming up in the next part of Book 7 will give us a bit more of an insight to his character as a whole. Ace is very much the "leader" of the first-years where Yuu cannot be, and I think Ace does keep himself as guarded as possible because he knows what NRC is like thanks to his brother's previous enrollment (aka hearing stories from him). Ace can be very protective of others (mostly Yuu, sometimes Deuce but he tends to deny that part if it concerns both of them, even Grim in Book 6).

The Heartslabyul boys have a lot of lore to them. Also Ace and Deuce are ride or die considering they went through transportation Limbo to save Yuu and Grim in Book 4!

Deuce considers Ace a friend...Ace apparently sees Deuce more as his rival than a friend (at least in early game)

I was really expecting Cater´s dream to cover his past/his issues so I was lowkey disappointed. It was a really good chance to see his inner thoughts and desires that he keeps hidden most of the time

Honestly, I am both disappointed, but I think it suits him. If he doesn't believe in long-friendships in the first place, it makes sense he would want to situate himself to always have short-term friends around to fill the gap of loneliness.
Being house warden would do that. He'd always have an excuse to leave and not get too close, but also be admired and invites to parties as everyone would want to be his friend.
But I don't think even he's fully aware of it, since he can't figure out why he dreamed what he dreamed. He might not actually know what he wants cause he keeps filling his life with things to distract from whatever lies underneath

I think it is probable that Trey was less against the silky melon of friendship and more against being photographed. He doesn't really like photos being taken of him, which is honestly relatable.
This video was honestly perfect timing because I was seeking out the posts you made on this very topic, so I am happy to see that this is next topic for mini series you'll be making videos for! Thank you so much! Hope you had a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!
(Edit: I would like to apologize if “silky melon of friendship” sounded a bit condescending. That was not my intent.)
