Jeff Rolka I thought it might :) I’ve been having a tough time recently and decided today would be the day to get my voice back. The last single (on my channel) is something I’m really proud of, but I took a lot of time and effort to promote it and it just didn’t land. That said, your videooooohs really help me focus. As ever, thank you ☮️&💜
Tritone exercise was fun. Because it is a quite rare intervall, I had to concentrate on the pitch bit more than usual; as a by product, I didn't worry so much about the quality of the high notes and they felt easier than average. I guess they sounded better as well. Sometimes you can trick us to sing better just by distracting us away from the customary. Thanks for the vid.
They are magical portals to other worlds in our minds. Enticing our imaginings into being. That is my professional opinion. :-) Thank you for watching! Enjoy the videos! Jeff
They're really awesome eh? I forget about things like that and always mean to add more of it in. I'm starting to keep running production notes so hopefully in the future I'll be more consistent! Thank you for watching! Jeff
Hi Jeff, I have fun using your worm up. I hit the highest note I can reach without using my head voice. The Tritone thing feels good ... I never done this befor .. Thank you! Now I go down in the cellar ... my band comes in 5 Minutes.
thanks Jeff, i'm a high baritone. i watch your channel daily and it's been very helpful. I'd love if you could do a vid discussing how high baritones could increase range slightly into tenor.currently my highest comfortable note is F4 and would like to raise another tone at least if poss. cheers!
I have subscribed some time ago and i do one of your videos daily, you have such a great channel! Every video is high quality, you can tell how much effort and dedication you put into this. I, as many others -as you can see in the comments- are so grateful to you for your work. I hope one day i find a teacher as savvy as you are. Thank you so much again, you are an inspiration and a support during this lockdown times. A big hug from Argentina
Hey jeff! Thanks for this warmup. I've been getting classically trained for a couple years and your warm-up and exercises always help me throughout the week leading up to my lesson. Thank you :)
Indeed. I caught sight of it in my monitor halfway through the Alto shoot (the third that I did that morning) and was like, 'ah man, the baritones are going to give me hell for this :-)' I have it back on the timer now. Thanks for watching! Enjoy! Jeff
@@JeffRolka But, the colour coordination between the cloth, the lamp and the picture is wonderful. A lovely transition from rich warm to soft pastel turquoise.
@@JeffRolka Not only the cool color combo and transition (cloth, lava, and lollipop lilies), but the blood orange red of the lilies ties the composition exquisitely with the burgundy cloth. I wonder if you did that on purpose, or if happy aesthetic happenstance.
Hi Jeff, I was wondering if I could ask your advice? love your videos and just subscribed-I’m a beginner singer and have been using your videos daily for a few weeks. However, I’ve noticed when I’m singing sustained notes that I can hear a little rasp/crackling going on. You can only hear it if your up close to me or if I record myself with a microphone. The notes I’m singing sound fine but there are these little cracks. Do you have any idea what this could be and how I can overcome it? Thanks ahead!! :)
Hello and thank you for subscribing and singing along! Cracks, breaks, or other deviations from a steadily produced sound indicate inconsistencies in the flow of air, engagement in the core of your body, or change in concept of how vowels are formed. Any and all of which can happen simultaneously when you're just starting out! If I may - start in this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PL2mQP7sE6PHg8wjZBjfJ3HGVqjxBF2swE.html Keep me posted on your experience here! All the best! Jeff
Jeff Rolka, I will definitely continue singing along! And thank you for your advice-I guess they’re are more likely wispy/raspy sounds after you have a cold/sore throat, rather than cracking that interrupts the notes. Hopefully by going back and starting with the beginner lessons I’ll be able to slowly work those out. Perhaps the intermediate baritone warm up was challenging myself TOO much lol. Thanks again
how many times do I have to do this warm up? I mean, just once per day?, and after that, can I start singing like right after I finish this warm up? Thaaaaaanks
Brilliant as always, Mr. Rolka! Thank you for continuing to produce these! Do you have any pointers on being more confidently in tune when starting on a high note and running down the scale? The exercise about 6 minutes in where you start high and descend I often crack on that first note and I'm not sure what to do to hit it more cleanly. Thank you!
Confidence with starting on a high note, in my opinion, if a function of proper balance (of vocal fold engagement and airflow) and repetition. Practice is correctly enough time, and you'll gain confidence. If it is regularly cracking for you, assess your appoggio practice and vocal fold engagement/elongation. I hope that helps! Jeff
@@JeffRolka I'm only practicing because I want to get better and ( I have a lot of free time) but yeah I guess for personal development Thanks for replying btw
Hi Jeff , I would love to ask if there’s any videos in your channel that help damaged voices ? I had nodules and they are gone but sadly I suffer from acid reflux and my head voice is completely gone (I don’t know why and how to get it back) and when I sing or do warm ups I feel a burn in my Adam’s apple area and its gets uncomfortable and I don’t if there’s any videos that can help with that , what’s your advice ?
Hello! I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering with acid reflux! First off, you may want to talk to your doctor about treatment methods if you haven't already. As far as vocalizations for damaged voices - similar to that of tired or overused ones - use the gentle warm ups for your fach (voice range designation). Be gentle! Very gentle with your voice! With recurring problems like reflux you may find that your practice is very sporadic, just be patient and gentle with yourself. Jeff
Hello, Jeff. I have a question: Why is that I lose access to my bottom notes once I'm done warming up? My bottom is usually D#2 or thereabouts, but once I've warmed up, I can only get to an F#2 - that's quite the loss! I'd appreciate it if could shed some light on this issue I have. Thank you.
It's quite normal for the voice to lose a note or two from our 'morning/speaking voice' when warming up. As the tissues get activated and engorged with blood we tend to lose a note or two. It can also depend on where we warm up to. If you primarily practice high range exercises, we can get vocalized exclusively to that region. I hope that helps a bit! You may try specifically warming up to that range. Best, Jeff
Love that lava lamp! Sure! Can do on the tritones, I love those! As for higher difficulty levels, have you seen these: th-cam.com/video/Fca0xGfeJTc/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/B3Jv_Iv0Hrc/w-d-xo.html Best! Jeff
'....videooooooh'. I'm still warming up with you Jeff!
Feryl!!!! Awesome! So nice to see you pop up! Brought a smile to my face this morning!

Yes!!! Odd intervals like tritones allow for all of that to occur! Well spotted!
Jeff
The Tritone exercise felt like some kind of magic! Thanks for explaining the lava lamp! IDK why I love that thing so much but I do.

Love the tritone and also when you do minor keys. Thank you.
I know. I forgot to turn it on. :-(
I've got it back on the timer though! Should be all sorted!

I have a show at a local bar called The Empty Glass. I always use your videos to warm up and get ready when I go sing.
Awesome! Have one for me - afterwards, of course!
Jeff
Can we please get a vocal riff exercise with increasing tempo ?
Oh you’re hair looks nice!

Oh damn, I was just trying to warm up, and instead I summoned four demons!
It does happen. Just be thankful Cthulhu didn't show up.

Love this warm up. Any chance you can share the top note from this? It's literally my top note - sounds great but like only when I'm warmed up.
Figured it out F#4, maybe G4? Anyways this has been helpful in working on my upper range 😁
The top note around 10:35 is F4.

Hello. Is this on a tenor range? it seems too high to me. Thank you.
Assumes that you can make a good transition across your secondo passaggio!

Wtf do you think I watch these videos for?!!! I'm so mad about the lava lamp.
this is just a joke i love you *would love more tritones and in general higher difficulty/increased range*
